Very sad news to report here today. Word is Capitol Records has pulled the plug on Letoya Luckett’s “Lady Love” album and will no longer to be funding the project. Unlike Toya’s first solo album which debuted at #1 and spawned several hit singles, including the hugely popular “Torn”, Lady Love has done just the opposite- debuting outside the top 10 and spawning no hit singles at all. Radio has been extremely cold to the former DC member this time around- leaving many to wonder if the singer even stood a chance at chart success. No word yet from Toya on what her plans are, however with a new movie on the horizon, it just may spark interest in the album- leading Capitol to do an about face.

OMG……….NO!!!!!!!! Latoya, u ahd it, WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I Please dont blame Beyonce, I already heard it on another blog
^^^^^ had
beyonce sets other singers back because she sells sex letoyas album is pure r&b its 10 times better than beyonces 2 disc crap beyonce is hell on wheels a pure demon child
Wow, what a shame!!!
Letoya will get through this, she is indeed being tested! Capitol and none of these record companies care about or know how to properly promote black music. But, it ain’t over and God has a rebuttal and the last word and not man!
This is awful suspicious, especially, she has has one of the best albums of 2009. I hope she doesn’t have a nemesis. She wasn’t even given a proper chance to fail. If someone, like we know who and I ain’t sayin Beyonce, but her Father caused this, woe to him because no weapon formed can stand against Letoya. I feel sorry if any man deliberately shutdown this girl, their end won’t be well!
It’s sad to work very hard and because those who can do, ego or just insensitivity and a lack of empathy.
Letoya you’re in my prayers!
^^^^^^^^ I knew it, so what if Latoya catches the Swince Flu, Matthew Knowles or Beyonce caused it. So what if Latoya get preganant, Beyonce Poked the hole in the condoms…To be honest, her album did not sell and she said it herself, that the album was not promoted, so i guess Beyonce did that too….SMH
good luck to her; this is unfortunate. the music business is so monopolized these days. She can make it as an indie r&bster just like so many of the rest of my favs out now. not everyone is meant to be on this grande superstar level. she’s got a core audience still; she can play gigs and get bookings and continue to produce her work the way she wants without having to follow fads and such.
Beyonce isn’t the problem for any of these R&Bsters who can’t get a leg up in the industry. Blame the INDUSTRY and its standards, NOT BEYONCE.
These images look great! Letoya’s so pretty.
Also, if she wants to blame anyone, blame the internet. It has played a major influence in how music and music artists are promoted and perceived and REceived.
She should go independent but then again her boutique seems to be her only source of revenue… pOOR latoya… Americans…. I have no word!
Kanyade is right: now to sell a record you have to include Internet in the promotion part. Maybe if she had a more catchy single it would have sold better because radios would have played it. Have a pop and more mainstream first single and then fill the album with R’n'B tracks if she wants to. I don’t think Beyoncé’s father has nothing to do with it the only thing Beyoncé had on Letoya was Single Ladies. She understood she had to reinvent herself to keep selling records, if she was doing the same music like 6 years ago she wouldn’t sell that well.
Very sad… but I wasn’t feeling the last two singles! She needs to bring a better song!
Letoya is just another victim of our foolish disregard for our own music – bootlegging! She has a wonderful album and even Ashanti’s last album was one of her best but African Americans don’t PURCHASE from retail outlets. We download or purchase them bootleg and this is the impact of us trying to save 3 or 4 dollars. Beyonce’ can sell 2 million because she has an international fan base. Rihanna’s fan base is international and she appeals to whites as well as other races. Keri Hilson might be GOLD by now and Ciara didn’t stand a chance (primary fan base is African Americans). For some odd reason, sisters don’t support sisters. However, when Fergie or Gwen Stefani release an album, whites are going to PURCHASE their music. They have the technical capability to download the albums for free and some will but they overwhelming will purchase the music to support their artists. That’s the difference. We’re never going to understand the concept of progression in our community. When our artists release their music and we purchase it bootleg, music executives will eventually cut the funding for the next album or drop you from their rosters for lack of sales. It’s a business. Pop stars and rock stars won’t encounter funding reduction unless the music was subpar! We need to WAKE UP!!!
I’m not surprised. Those singles just didn’t cut it. And this album was late. I don’t know whose fault it is, but she should’ve put out another album in 07 or early 08 at the latest. Even though her first CD was #1 it still didn’t sale THAT many copies. I think when you’re new if you don’t have #1 single after #1 single you gotta keep it moving.
dam i feel bad for her if she really believes in herself she should keep doing music no matter what.
cutesy*
I agree with above comments on letoya didn’t have really good singles to carry her album. Also comparing her with beyonce on everything wasn’t a good look. Beyonce already has her own fan base and with her label trying to draw beyonce fan base to her wasn’t a good look. Also letoya should have brought better music and not that dull music or it should have been mix, every song was so much the same. I’m not a fan of her, but if her music had been better i would have supported her music.
Maybe Letoya needs to go overseas like Kelly because American’s be on that dumb **** when it comes to music.
LeToya’s ablum is nice and her vocals are great. I hope someone picks her up. She’s a very talented individual.
I heard her songs on the radio here where I live. I turned the station. Her last one sounded just like Mary Mary’s “God In Me”.
Yeah, bootlegging is a problem in America. Especially with african americans. Singers that are doing plat now have a fanbase that reaches to other races because they branch out in different genres. So, Letoya, next time around, I know you want to keep it urban, but for the sake of your career, you might want to branch out to some folk, pop, something.
I have the album baught it at Target. I listen to almost everyday.
Why say “poor Letoya”? That girl says she is blessed. I believe her. Whoever said her boutique is her only source of income sounds hateful and ignorant.
She stays on her grind. So should we.

Love your post. Thanks!
The two singles she released just weren’t good- nuff said.
LaToya’s singles weren’t strong. If Keri Hilson doesn’t blow up don’t blame bootleggers. Her singing is terrible. That was evident during her BET Awards performance.
Apprently, most of you have not been lisining to the radio. Her new single “Regret” is doing well.Currently “Regret is #15 on the R&B charts,#12 on the Urban charts and # 88 bubbling under #100.Capital Records stop supporting her album but, they are considering supporting her again. All of Capital Records urban artist have failed, and for the same reason lack of promotion. The group Cherrish, J-Holiday, Avant, Bobby V.and Mims. Mrs. Knowles Carter has nothing to do with Letoya so why bring her name up.
I always thought bootlegging was a poor excuse used by the record companies for excusing the poor sales of their “artists” instead of face the truth and realizing that the real problem is music nowadays is crap. As far as I’m concerned, if I really like an artist I DO buy the album, there’s not a problem for me to spend 15-16 euros in an artist I like. Fanbase is an important consideration too but it’s not always true: Britney has a lot of fans, had a successful tour but her album didn’t sell that much in the US. Beyoncé and Rihanna don’t sell just because of their fanbase but because people are interested in their music and they are mainstream.
I meant bootleg and free downloads
latoya dnt give up woman, her music is beautiful but not catchy,if her aim is to sell she must create bubble gum, then she will be a mega supastar and somebody must teach her the craft of stealing songs.
@Lizz
Why is is that I feel you’re being subliminal to a specific artist? LOL! She’s already been mentioned a gazillion times on this post. Go ahead “Say her name say her name”. LOL
Letoya should keep doing music. I like her, she needs to put in more effort and find a team thats going to do the best they can for her. I think thats what happen with a lot of artist. Rihanna’s management should get some kind of reward or something. Letoya just has to do some soul searching and put in some work.
Sepiastar : Applaud…
Stay strong Latoya, you’ll pull through it & bounce back even bigger!! God Bless ***
dont give up, you didnt after the group dropped you, i feel she wasnt promoted. i didnt even know when her cd was put out, just like i didnt even know when kelly rowland had as many cd’s as she did out
i’m reaal starting to learn promotion is everything
really
Damn LeToya has a wonderful album! I blame the record company for wanting this instant gratification. She does not deserve this! I’m buying her album.
