Netflix Plans Movie Based on Lupita Nyong’o and Rihanna Meme

WHEN MEMES COME TRUE LUPITA AND RIHANNA

Lupita and Rihanna: When Memes Come True

Lupita Nyong’o and Rihanna are reportedly in talks with Netflix to co-star in a film based on an internet meme. The as yet untitled project has already secured a director in Ava DuVernay and script writer in Insecure creator Issa Rae.

The perfectly packaged project is the brainchild of Twitter user @1800SADGAL, who last month posted a photo of the two stars sitting front row at a 2014 Miu Miu fashion show. The image included the caption, “Rihanna looks like she scams rich white men and Lupita is the computer smart best friend who helps plan the scams.” The meme quickly went viral… and well, you all know the rest.

Netflix is said to have acquired the rights to the film at the Cannes Film Festival. Who they acquired it from remains to be seen. @1800SADGAL came up with the idea, so let’s hope she gets at least a producer credit and the money that comes with it.

  1. I see the author of the meme is on Twitter bragging. I hope it’s because she’s been cut in on the action. If not, she needs to find her an attorney fast.
