Lupita Nyong’o for Vogue Italia

First time Oscar nominee Lupita Nyong’o is killing another photo shoot, this time for the pages of Vogue Italia.

Lupita’s 12-page spread in the February issue of Italian Vogue can be seen below and on newsstands now.

Because she has been such an incredible force on the red carpet over the last year, there is a great deal of excitement surrounding who the 31-year old actress will choose to dress her for the Academy Awards, where she is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her work in the film “12 Years a Slave.”

In a recent interview, Lupita said her stylist Micaela Erlanger has been inundated with calls from dozens of designers hoping to dress her for the big night. Lupita says she has her eye on several dresses, including ones from Calvin Klein, Tom Ford and Elie Saab.

Asked how she plans to decide, Lupita says she may not have to. “Micaela wants me to wear a different dress for each after-party I attend. I just might end up wearing them all.”

The Oscars air on March 2nd.

  1. I wish Lupita the best but I really think her career will falter after the hype dies down. If she wins the Oscar she may have a longer shelf life thanks to the added publicity. But if she loses the hype is gone and then what? Her IMDB page is empty showing she has no work ahead. She isn’t filming anything and she hasn’t been cast in anything. Outside of her role as a flight attendant in the new Liam Neeson movie filmed ages ago, I see nothing on the horizon for her despite her glowing performance in 12 Years a Slave and her Oscar nod. Hollywood is cold towards black actresses as a whole and those who look like Lupita have an even harder time. This is why we need our own Hollywood, so we can hire our people and give them the longevity many of them never get a chance to have in mainstream Hollywood. Anyone remember Sharon Warren, the actress that played Aretha, Ray Charles’ mother in the film Ray? She hasn’t worked since 2006. She too got a lot of hype and then vanished. Best Supporting Actress is a tricky award anyway and many black actresses who win in go on to nothing as far as film roles go. I see the same happening to Lupita if she doesn’t make opportunities for herself.

@JBL, I thought about Sharon too once the Lupita Craze began. I wonder where she is and what she’s doing… I think Lupita will still be in the game. She already has another film with Liam Neeson coming out. Also, she’s worked behind the scenes. I think she will continue to soar. Now I’m going to Google Sharon.

  3. OMG, I actually Googled her sometime last year when all the Lupita hype started and sure enough, she hasn’t done anything since Ray. Even the pics I found of her turned out all to be from either 2005 or 2006. How can someone completely fall off the radar like that? Something else must be at play. Viola Davis didn’t vanish after her hype. She is still working and her IMDB page is full. Maybe Sharon just decided to leave Hollywood or settle down or something. I wish I knew.

  4. I also wondered what happened to Sharon Warren. Sometimes the whole auditioning and rejection process can be too overwhelming for some aspiring actors. But, I don’t think Lupita’s gonna disappear. Just as Gabby Sidebe is still working when people doubted she would. I believe Lupita will do Broadway and end up on a show like “Scandal.” I know when most actresses win the Oscar, their careers seem to decline regardless of color, but we know how few roles AA actresses will get. Fortunately, we’re in the golden age of television again and more and more A-list actors are doing television, hopefully, she’ll stay employed!

  5. Well people thought gabby would get nothing after precious and she has had a lot of work. I expect this girl to get the same.
