Lupita Nyong’o in Talks to Star in Disney Film

According to published reports, actress Lupita Nyong’o is in talks to star in the upcoming Disney film “Queen of Katwe.” The film is based on the life of female Ugandan chess prodigy Phiona Mutesi, who with the help of her coach Robert Katende, went on to compete in the 39th Annual World Chess Olympiad back in 2010.

Lupita, still basking the awesome glow of her gig as Lancôme spokesmodel, as well as a co-starring role in the upcoming Star Wars film, is slated to play Phiona’s mother Harriett Mutesi, while “Selma” star David Oyelowo, also in talks to star in the film, would take on the role of Katende.

While Disney will be handling distribution of the film, ESPN will handle production, as the film is based on their article and subsequent book about Phiona’s life, titled “The Queen of Katwe: A Story of Life, Chess and one Extraordinary Girl’s Dream of Becoming a Grandmaster.”

The film is set to go into production later this fall and will be shot on location in both Uganda and South Africa.
