Hits Daily Double has officially spoken and according to them, Mariah Carey’s latest album, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, will not be #1 on next week’s chart. The singer, who sold over 400,000 copies of her last album during the the first week, is now only on parr to sell about 170,000 copies of “Memoirs.” Island Def Jam, sensing that the singer’s first two singles weren’t likely to lead to huge first week sales, slashed Mariah’s album price to $5.99 on Amazon.com and word is a price slash will go into effect over the weekend on Itunes as well.
First week sales aside, the singer’s album is getting great reviews and H.AT.E.U. is definitely a winner if it ever gets released.
I definitely was expecting more sales. It’s a great album, nonetheless. And yes, “HATEU” needs to be released as single!

Mariah’s album leaked weeks ago and I gave it a listen. It is not as good as her last or the the Emancipation of Mimi.
I think this album was rushed, rushed, rushed. She flew right back into the studio months after the last album was released.
Her desire to break the Beatles record has her and her record label moving too fast.

I’m right there with you – we must have heard a different album than everyone else. I find this to be one of her lesser efforts, as E=MC2 was indeed better than this.
My main problem is the fact that she agreed to let Tricky and The Dream produce the bulk of the album. Those guys are good for 2 or 3 songs, but they run Mariah into a lazy rut of slow jams on “Memoirs.” I was underwhelmed by the music, vocals, and lyrics.
Maybe next time. I just feel that she isn’t trying that hard anymore. The songs she used to do back in the day were so crisp, and her voice really used to soar. Now she has three octaves: whisper, rasp, and shout.
I actually like this album, and I like it better than her last. However, neither of them touch her previous albums, Emancipation of MiMi on back!
I didn’t buy this one and I didn’t buy the last either. I listened to the other album and I only liked 2 or 3 songs on it, I haven’t heard this one, but the first single isn’t all that great. I probably won’t buy it. She needs to get her stuff together. For some reason I think her next album will be Glitter 2010.
Anyways, I like this new old look she’s been rockin’ this is how she looked in her glory days and i like it. Keep the hair Mimi, who knows you may start sounding like you did back in the day.
Okay, I just read the other comments and you guys say it’s good. I guess I’ll give it a listen, I may reconsider wether I buy or not. B/c I wasn’t feeling E=Mc2 at all, she spoiled me with Emanicpation of Mimi.

Never been a Mariah fan- but I’m sure sales will pick up over the next several weeks.

I don’t like “Obsessed” and haven’t had chance to listen another yet. But I always don’t like the idea of rushing to the studio and release a new album 1 year after you last one was flop.
Im not really a Mariah carey fan but I became one when she dropped the emancipation of MIMI album In “05″ I just love absolutely every song on that album. I don’t know If I’ll be supporting this album I’ll pass….
I like Mariah but I don’t like Obsessed. I’m not surprised the album is not number 1, it was rushed. She should have waited until next year to release it.
I’m not a huge Mariah fan, but this is a very good album! I saw her in concert after her glitter deal and meltdown and she was great and the “Through the Rain” song, very emotional! I think this period will make her grow and really use her talent.
Artists can’t just make music, they have to market it and we don’t buy it so readily and the labels don’t understand the blend of urban and pop markets.
Mariah will rebound and if the right singles are released, she’ll get a bounce!
Hmmm. I don’t like Obsessed. Not a fan of Tricky and The Dream’s work either. I like that she has the old Mariah look but i wish she could get the old Mariah sound. I bet then ppl would buy her music. Take a few years off to rest your voice or if need be go and get those nodules off your vocal chords but get a good surgeon unlike Julie Andrews.

Mariah needs to get back to her roots and start making good music with Tommy Mottola again. She is trying to hard to keep up with this fickled hip hop crowd and chasing the Beatles.
Good music takes time and cannot be rushed just to keep your name out there.
If she would stop singing these hoodrat songs, she’d be doing better. She has got to change her style. Her music was more mature twenty freaking years ago.

Yeah it is weird how her music has actually regressed as time moves forward. The kind of stuff she sang when she was 19,20 is the stuff I’d expect a woman her age to be singing now. Guess she got the ballads and hits out of the way so she could get to singing hip-hop. Whatever. I can understand her wanting to do her, but post 2000 Mariah has nothing on 90s Mariah, EVER. They’re almost two diff people.

Ok, I’ve been reading alot of these posting and don’t agree with a whole lot of you. 1. If you were a real MC fan you would know this album wasn’t rushed and that this album sounds quit well. 2. For all those haters that assum she can’t sing any longer maybe you should see her live in concert cause unlike other artist she can sing live verse lip syning where those who don’t, have to make up by dancing to give a really good show. 3. This album isn’t for everyone she wasn’t looking to please everyone she was doing it for herself and her fans and her true fans who see it for what it is which is a great album.
I got the album (Elle leaflet) I think its brilliant! i love it more than E=MC2, than Rainbow, I love it more than Butterfly! The voice arrangements throughout the songs are great- u will hear Mimi’s voice like never b4…its soulful and sheer ecstasy!
best songs in the album are Up out my face, It’s a wrap, and angels cry…
No doubt mariah can make great songs but she needs at least a two-year rest… so she can come back with a bang!
Just minimize the use of voice layering and hip-hop touch in her next album and it would be a great album
Mariah is a studio singer who has always lip sychned her music. Unlike Barbara Streisand, Aretha, Whitney, Janice Joplin etc, MC holds no candle to these legends vocally, true artistry and on a performance level. Even though MC has sold alot of albums and #1 singles, she is not that much respected artistry wise. Yeah MC writes her own music and all, but the quality of it is mediocre and not memorable I do not think “classic” when i hear half of her number 1 songs. I know of a songs by Barbara and Whitney that did not even hit number 1, but are classics. Mariah has been manipulating the charts for years by discounting albums and sngles to go number one, but unfortunately on Glitter, Charmbracelet, EMC2, and now MOAIA, these tactics failed. Mc only came out with her old look and this album, to try and offset Whitney’s cmebck, but Whitney was too much for her this time. MC needs to know that she will never be musically, vocally, and industry respected as Babs and Whitney.
I think this album is amazing, but it’s 10 years overdue and could’ve been a great follow up to Butterfly.
I love most of the songs on this album and compared to TEOM and E=MC2, I find myself skipping songs much less this time around.
The only problem is her dependancy on The dream and tricky.
