  1. Something in the picture looks very off. Whatever Essence is doing over there they need to stop because I’m still reeling from what they did to Gabby on their last cover.

  2. how about new cover models. they have about twelve and rotate them.

  3. $ignature BARBIE

Mary covered it gracefully and elegant…..They covered her tattoo’s on her arm to

  4. love the dress hate the hair cut

  5. Black is beautiful. Another ageless sista. I love how Mary isn’t doing the H0 thing with her look. She’s a little competitive with her music, but she’s not going to the extremes to compete with these younger women. I love and respect her for that. Can’t wait to see that movie Mary.

  6. Essence.
    *sigh*

They are some celebrity recycling advocates over there at that magazine….

I like Mary’s dress. Wish the background was a contrast to the dress.

  7. *cough*

    Another recycled star…

Mary’s dress is beautiful. Her hair is……..and her facial expression gives me pause.

  8. Blame it on tha Rain

    ** goes in & chants**

Pleaseeeeeeeeee let Essence find a NEW beautiful, smart, Black woman to put on the coverrrr & stop using 13 of the same womennn & recycling themmmmm ahemmmmm.

    **ends chant**

Despite that this is Mary’s 50th cover w/ the magazine, she looks VERY pretty.

  9. i love that dress cnt wait to see her on the big screen not sure if i will add her album to my list, she hsnt convinced me to anticipate her music this time around,i’m a fan but not gullible.

  10. I have to agree — Essence needs to do a better job of selecting their cover women, even though I respect and admire all of Essence’s favorite women:

    - Beyonce
    - Mary J.
    - Gabrielle
    - Michelle O.
    - Sanaa
    - Halle
    - Serena
    - Venus
    - Taraji
    - Latifah
    - J. Hud

Did I miss anyone? That’s who I seem to see repeatedly over the last 2 years.

  11. yep recycled indeed.

  12. @ Baron
    Queen Latifah????

  13. @Pearlsrevealed

Yeah she covered an Essence issue this year, not too far back. With the short hairdo.
