Mary J. Blige Lands a New Movie Role

While recently discussing her contribution to the soundtrack for the movie “The Help,” singer Mary J. Blige, who is also embarking on an acting career or her own, spoke of her upcoming role in the Lifetime original movie “Parallel Lives.”

Mary doesn’t speak much about the role or go into any detail- however we’re going to assume shooting will start when the singer wraps up work on her latest film “Rock of Ages.”

The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul has slowly been flexing her acting muscle over the last few years, appearing in movies like “I Can Do Bad All By Myself” and shows like “Entourage” and “Ghost Whisperer.”

“I have a coach for every little thing I do,” Mary says. “I want Queen Latifah to be proud of me. I want Taraji [P. Henson] to be proud of me. I want even Meryl Streep to give me a call and say, ‘Hey, girl. You’re doing good.’ [And] Angela Bassett, of course. I want to earn my acting kudos.”

  1. Mary’s acting is questionable but if acting is the road she wants to go down next well then good for her.

  2. I hope Mary does well!…it’s not an easy medium…”it’s real”…strips down and exposes vulnerability…comics and actors channel from your their own experiences and psyche…Mary has plenty, so kudos to her and this next leg of her tour!

  3. Saw her Behind The Music on VH1 and I had always been a fan (whose not a fan of at least one Mary album) and I really respect her as a woman and a survivor. I knew she had gone through some things but I didnt know all the self inflicted pain she’s caused herself. I was also shocked to see her find out on TV in front of an audience that KC was going around saying that they were not engaged after the interviewer ask to see her ring. She handled that like a G.

Oh yeah about the article… I have a habit of going off-topic. I wish her the best of luck. Roles for sistas and few and far between.
