Mary J. Blige’s recent independent film with director Dee Rees is officially coming to Netflix and select theaters on November 17th. Mudbound, which tells the story of two impoverished families, one black and the other white, struggling to survive in the impoverished Mississippi Delta post World World ll, was first screened at the Sundance Film Festival and then purchased by Netflix for $12.5 million dollars.

The streaming channel plans to release the film just in time for Oscar buzz, which the film has been garnering since its initial screening back in March. Should Mudbound actually garner any nominations, it will be the first time Netflix is nominated for a narrative film, rather than a documentary.

Mudbound co-stars Jason Mitchell (Detroit), Garrett Hedlund (Four Brothers), Carey Mulligan (Shame), and Jonathan Banks (Community).
