Meagan Good has a lot to be happy about. The actress’ new movie, The Unborn, opened huge this weekend. Though the film came in at #3 and got horrid reviews, it still opened with an estimated 21 million dollars. Meagan was the only member of the cast to do any promotion for the film and after the initial reviews started coming in, the movie’s premiere was scrapped. Luckily for Meagan, she was spared most of the critics venom and in some instances, was even credited with making the film worth watching. So what’s next for the actress? For 2009 Meagan will abandon the horror movie genre and return to her Black roots.
The actress will star alongside Lauren London and Teyanna Taylor in the coming of age drama, Caramel.
I like Meagan, so good for her, but I won’t be checking out this movie. However, I’ll support Caramel.
I won’t be seeing this movie (happy for meagan nonetheless). I might check out Caramel though.
Don’t do horror flicks, but congrats to her. Her new project, I’ll watch…on cable.
I am going to see the movie. i support good black actresses. She is really trying to keep her head above water like everyone else, cut her some slack. she’s young, fresh, nice body, etc… you go meagan!
Caramel is a step backwards for Meagan. She will be playing second fiddle to Lauren London, a girl with even worse acting skills than Meagan herself. Love Guru, Saw V and The Unborn were all step ups for her. Each was panned and performed poorly overall, but still did more than Meagan’s so called Black movies and exposed her to a crowd that probably didn’t know who she was.
Caramel is a silly Negro movie about high yella popular girls in highschool, taking it’s name from Lauren Londom’s complexion.
This movie will flop and Meagan will be right back where she started.
Dana, I read an article recently that said the hardships Black actresses face today are mainly due to the fact that they are seen through amorous eyes first. Rather than being chosen on acting ability they are often chosen because they are attractive and that leads to the overall quality of the acting going down and thus the overall visibility of Black actresses goes down.
Lauren London is a great example. Can this girl actually act? I don’t think so. She was plucked from obscurity because some director thought she was cute. She will never go beyond the d-list anals of ghetto dramas like ATL.
Rather than focus on no talents like Lauren and Meagan, the Black industry needs to turn towards sistas like Taraji, Kerry Washington and the very underrated Zoe Saldana.
Enough of the Halle’s (yall know she can’t act) and Meagan’s and Laurens. We need more real actresses to take us to the next level.
Congrats Meagan! I would love to support this movie, but I’ve seen the previews and it looks a little too scary for me. Caramel sounds cute…I’ll try and support that one. I’m a Lauren London fan also.
Just that title, Caramel, makes me itch.
I’m very happy for Meagan. I’m glad her movie did well in the box office. I really wish she didn’t have to play second string to Lauren London because she is a muuuuch better actress. However, good supporting actresses often steal the show from mediocre lead characters, and I’m sure that’ll be the case in the movie Caramel. At least Meagan is getting consistant work. Keep doing your thang Meagan, and hopefully better roles will come along.
Meagan is not set to star in Caramel just yet (according to the director). They were in talks of wanting to cast her, and that was like a year ago. They haven’t even finished Sundays In Fort Greene or Sweet Flame and she’s started filming both of those films a while ago. Kinda disappointed because I have been waiting to see both of those films even though they are both independent films. She’s been running around making meetings with other producers and directors to be casted for new roles this year. A rumor has it that she’ll be in some movie with Chris Rock this year. And I don’t know if you guys know but Meagan is the new face of a mobile franchise in Africa called Anabel Mobile. She just came from Africa about a month ago with her family. :D
Anyways, The Unborn did suck though. I am not going to lie…
Thelma I agree wholeheartedly!
I am happy for Meaghan because she is steady in her work. I won’t see the Unborn because it reminds me of the Exorcist with the upside down dog head and on the person crawling around. Too Much. But I wish her well in her next movie.
Black films can be very limiting for Black women unless they can get a role in a Tyler Perry film. You will either be the pretty girl or the ghetto girl. There is no in between. I miss the late 1990s when we had great films like Love Jones. Nia Long was so lucky to get that role when she did. Now she barely works. We need more great Black writers and directors and not rappers making films or films that star rappers.
Meagan is killing her career dealing with these ignorant arse hoodlum film makers. Chingy? Who would do a movie with Chingy? Neither Chingy nor Lauren London have enough name recognition to carry a film. This film stars grown men and women but is clearly aimed at the tween and teen market. Why would Meagan, whos is nearing 30, go back to doing such junk?
What happened to her own film she was suppose to be doing? Was she too be busy clubbing and running the streets half naked to make it.
Why brown sista claims to support Black women but won’t give people like Kerry and Zoe the time of day is anyone’s guess.
Both ladies make plenty of appearances but rarely are they posted about. Meagan shows up at a club looking drunk and she gets top billing here.
Go figure.
Meag is trying to get her hustle on…why turn her back on movies that made her? Money is money.
BrownSista posts Kerry and/or Zoe if they’re at an event or making an appearances…they don’t club so their sightings are just not as frequent.
Tearing down one sista to uplift another is not right either.
I saw The unborn and to be truly honest it was as any other horror movie (means it was whomp whomp)!
I had fun mostly because I went to see it with a group of friends
Saw V is way too much gore for me so I haven’t seen it yet and not planning to
however I’ll probably watch Caramel to support
and I’m also excited about the picture <> with Bee, Idris and the chick from Resident Evil & hero
@Toy

You are very welcome Fleur du Cap.

i actually wanna see the unborn…i really dont go by reviews i rather just see for myself plus i like horror movies anyway and she made me laugh in saw 5 haha but ill be seeing it sometime soon
@ MARIO
Ha! I had to see Saw V for myself even though a lot of people said they were disappointed. She made me laugh to! LOL. Everyone was saying how wrong they did her, but in my mind, I thought she got a little too happy with that dang stick/bat, whatever she had. LOL.
I love Meagan but they have to stop killing her off. We would like to see her thru the whole movie lol. Or she have to start picking better roles.
