Monica Takes the #SoGoneChallenge
As previously reported, singer Monica has returned to the studio to record the follow-up to her 2015 album Code Red. The singer’s next project will be produced by Missy Elliott, who along with Monica, took time off from recording to participate in the So Gone Challenge, a hashtag that took off on social media that features people rapping over the beat to Monica’s 2003 Missy-produced single So Gone.
Many people accepted the challenge, including Chance the Rapper, but as you can see from the video above, it was the original that topped them all. Quiet as kept, Monica is one of those 90’s acts that I still love to this day. I have several of her songs on my phone, including her amazing remake of Slow Jam, which features Usher. It’s rare to outdo a classic, but I’ll be damn if they didn’t do it.
And for those of you not familiar with So Gone, check out the video below. The song was one of Monica’s most successful, reaching number ten on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one on both the R&B/Hip-Hop and Hot Dance Club Play charts.
