When I first heard Laurence Fishburne’s 19 year old daughter (Montana) was attempting to strike it big, ala Kim Kardashian, I pretty much ignored the story, assuming it would eventually be proven false. Fast forward a few days and few screenshots later and we all know that indeed, a young sista has attempted to do something that those of us with a few years behind us know is impossible. Montana foolishly thinks she can become a star via a sex/porn tape. I can see how Montana would think doing such a thing would lead to instant fame. After all, it seemed to have worked for Kim, Pamela Anderson, Paris Hiltion, and a host of other WHITE girls. That’s right- WHITE girls.
You guys may think race has nothing to do with it but it does. America just doesn’t view a white woman’s sexuality and a black woman’s sexuality in the same way. Don’t believe me? Just ask Janet Jackson. When a white woman does something sexually “out there” (Madonna’s sex book) she becomes a sex symbol. When a black woman does something similar she is simply loose. This is why Kim can release a sex tape, do Playboy and run through men like Reggie runs through offensive lines, and still manage to be seen as a respectable woman. Janet Jackson’s breast however cost her not only her very lucrative career, but her name as well. Janet is now considered someone whose loose morals and quest for [more] fame led her to strip on national TV. To this day CBS and numerous other lawsuits are still being fought in court- and all over what Janet called an accidental “wardrobe malfunction.”
Something very similar happened to black Playboy Bunny Nicole Narain. The wanna be actress was seen “doing the do” with actor Colin Farrel and one would think appearing with an actual B-List actor would lead to all sorts of fame, but it didn’t. Instead Farrel took Narain to court and accused her of purposely leaking the tape, even though she denied it. Her name was dragged through the mud and the last I heard she was a participant on a VH-1 reality series where she was battling alcohol and sex addition. She got no offers of instant fame and whatever hopes she had of having a Hollywood career I would say have probably vanished.
I see a similar fate for Montana. Sex tapes are not guaranteed star makers. To make matters worse, Montana isn’t actually leaking a sex tape; rather she is releasing a porno film and making her intentions known before hand. Whatever Montana is hoping to have happen from the release of this film, more than likely will not. Ryan Seacret will not be showing up to offer her an E! reality series and corporate sponsors will not be paying her $10,000 to tweet about their products. Instead, Montana will learn the hard way that despite what the Kardashians and Hiltons are able to do to gain fame, sistas still have to get theirs the old fashion way- through hard ass work.
