Nail Trends: Cool Blue Shades

BEYONCE NOUVELLE VAGUE CHANEL NAIL POLISH 140x140 Nail Trends: Cool Blue Shades Blue nail polish is summer 2010’s hottest color. From Beyonce, who wore a sea blue shade, said to be Chanel’s Nouvelle Vague, in her “Why Don’t You Love Me” video, to singer Katie Perry, who rocks the shade almost daily, celebs are leading the way in making this color mainstream. You don’t however have to be a celebrity yourself to pull off wearing this eye-popping shade. Like everything in life, it is all about balance and following a few simple rules.

Rule #1- Wear blue in moderation. Let your nails be the focus. Don’t attempt to wear blue eye shadow and a blue outfit to match your new blue nails. Neutral colors and make-up work best.

Rule#2- Wear a light blue shade in the daytime and for work. Save the dark blue shades for the club.

Rule #3- Do shop around for a shade that matches your skin tone. Many blue colors have gray undertones which look awesome of the dark, rich, creamy skin of brown sistas.

Lastly, if you are afraid of wearing such a bold color on your fingernails, try your toenails instead. Our First Lady was recently spotted wearing a blue gray shade on her lil piggies.

Hmmmm….these are some good tips but I take issue with the second tip. I have a beautiful navy polish by Sally Hanson that would work better in the office than say those featured in the article. I think those in the article would be better suited for a night out, vacay or the weekend. The dark navy plays like a black or a vamp and would work better with the corporate hues, IMO. Then again, it would depend on your rank on the organizational chart and how relaxed or conservative your office environment is.

  2. I have Sally Hansen’s “Gray by Gray,” which despite its name is actually blue. I wear it on my toes mostly. It is hard finding just the right shade to wear on my nails- most are too strong for me.

  3. I also have SH’s “Gray By Gray” & I absolutely love it.

I really like blue polish, but it’s such a pain trying to get ALL of it off of your fingers & nails during removal.
