New Movie: How She Move

Keyshia Cole, Rutina Wesley and Tre Armstrong Handprint Ceremony at Planet Hollywood in New York
What’s the best way to solve life’s problems? Have a dance off of course- and that is exactly what happens in the new film “How She Move”. After her sister’s fatal drug addiction sucks up the family’s private school funds, Raya (Rutina Wesley) is back at public school and needs cash to get out of her dangerous neighborhood. Luckily she’s a master step dancer, and, conveniently, the high-paying Stepmonster team tournament is coming up soon. While Raya trains, her mom (Melanie Nicholls-King) disapproves; estranged friend Michelle (Tre Armstrong) resents her–until she needs Raya to tutor her, of course–and fellow step expert Bishop (Dwain Murphy) tries to show Raya his moves in more ways than one. How She Move opens in theaters nationwide today and is an MTV Production that also features a cameo by singer Keyshia Cole.

  1. Another “Step Up”, “Save the Last Dance”, “You Got Served”, “Honey”, “Stomp the Yard”. These movies never stop. However I must admit I LOVE “Stomp the Yard”. DJ (Columbus Short) is so sexy!

Did you know Combus Short used to be involved with Britney Spears? I guess he was lucky he got away. 😆

  5. I know. When I found out about that, some of his appeal went away. Blech. But everytime I watch “Stomp the Yard”, his swagger comes back!

I actually said in the post it was only a cameo. Keyshia plays herself and she judges the competition at the very end of the movie I believe. 🙂

  9. I can’t get past wondering why the title wasn’t “How She Moves”…instead of “How She Move…
    MTV gets on my nerves.

Cause unless its ghettoed out you all are not going to go see it……dat’s why

  15. @Buttaflipink….

I see that you missed the sarcasm of my post lmao! :lol2: I’m not going to go see the garbage anyway–because I find the title offensive. It is offensive because it presupposes that all black people are accepting of and/or speak in Ebonics. There is a place for that dialect (I do believe it is a true and valid dialect and should be respected just like dialects of MAndarin Chinese) and there is a place to speak the “King’s English.

At any rate, you said “cause unless its ghettoed out you all are not going to go see it..dat’s why”…. :stop:

Speak for yourself. I love the “hood” in a quaint type of way like anyone else, but don’t lump all black people into your reality. You sound as silly as that Brian character who only meets ghetto girls and thinks all black women are ghetto girls.

  20. @Brianna, :brownsista: I’m going to borrow from my grandmother and say “I aint studyin Buttaflipink”. :brownsista:

I have been reviewing other posts on other topics and I think this Buttaflipink person just has a bone to pick with me. Everywhere I post she comes along with a response directly to me. Most of them make very litle sense. The other responses are on the “Jill Scott poses nude” post where she claims that unless your name is european like “jill” or “chrissy” you can’t be successful in America. Despite the fact that I pointed out to her that the two most powerful black women in this country are named, ahem CONDELEEZA and OPRAH, she can’t get it through her head. She even thinks that because I’m a corporate attorney who has managed to maintain my “blackness”, I must not be “real” :loser:

Now that I see her real issue is me. :hater: ..I’m not too upset about it. :booty: I’m accustomed to haters. If she is real, I feel sorry for her that her experiences are so limited. I know a great many black women who are successful in their chosen fields. I am proud of all of them. I’m proud of all of you. I’m proud of all of us. The fact that we are still even ALIVE is a success.
BTW I have an autistic son, who is a savant, works with numbers, and is beautiful. He also rides the “short bus” to school–and he is much smarter than people like Buttaflipink. Much less obsessive as well.

  21. I’ll be honest: I am so tired of these stupid dance movies. Over and Over, same old corny plots that most of these movies I seem to have irritate me. You will hear: “That Girl can’t Dance”, “I see how it is then.”, “Guess I was wrong”, “Oooohhh….”

  22. Neferraritari- Boo I dont know you I just read the comments and then comment—It really is not personal–And please stop trying to use big words..ok ah…………….Its obvious. You must have dictionary.com pulled up when you write on here . I wish you well and I again all jokes aside it is not personal………Girl we is on the internet—It could never be personal. Now we are not going to cheap shot one another we are all sisters on brownsista showing love right so are we Friends now….
Friends Neferraitari—-lets be friends I was just joking with you girl….
But for old time sakes give me an example of the queen’s english and name one place where somebody would say the queens english
and what time period would “the queens english” have been said thanks.
and brianna you just read what stephanie says before you comment and leave me and my friend Neffi alone thanks..ok girls holla back…loveyoulikeasista====a brownsista to be exact..ok ok friends bet friends..bet

You are right and I appreciate the fact that you took the high road rather than come back swinging. My tone was pretty harsh and I apologize for that. The last thing black women need is more conflict.

As far as using “big words”, I’m an attorney–this is just the way that I speak. Honestly, I talked this way before I became an attorney. I’m a tall, amazonian, nappy curled dredlocs down my back, Glamazon black woman, with a soft, “nerdy”, “white-girl” voice and diction. I can’t change those things even if I wanted to do so. I don’t take offense at it though, my husband makes fun of the way that I speak all the time.

    Thanks for staying positive.

    Nefertari

PS, if my middle name, Nefertari, presents a problem (and it sometimes does, it is foreign) then call me Veronica (my first name. It is much easier to spell.
