New Movie Role For Keyshia Cole

Keyshia Cole Well if Beyonce, Fantasia and Alicia Keys can do it, who is to say Keyshia Cole can’t take her talents to the big screen as well? BlackFilm.com is reporting that Keyshia and rapper Fabolous are due to star in the Karl Lagerfeld produced hip hop drama, Only The Hood Dies Young. The movie, which is due to start production in October, centers around a young drug dealer (Fabolous) struggling with his mother’s addiction and his girlfriend, played by Keyshia. Fabolous has appeared on the big screen before, most notably in Scary Movie 4 back in 2006. This however will be Keyshia’s first foray into movies and I wish her luck. Who knows? Maybe a few years from now she’ll surprise us all and be picking up her own Oscar as Jennifer Hudson did.
[Update 07/02/07] Keyshia Cole’s rep says story is false.

In yet another update, a writer for BlackFilm.com contacted me personally and stands by the story he wrote. His exact statement can be seen below.

In regards to Keyshia Cole NOT being in the film that you posted, her rep may not know the whole story. I got the interview from the director who said this publicly as stated in the interview.

  1. Who knows? Maybe a few years from now sheโ€™ll surprise us all and be picking up her own Oscar as Jennifer Hudson did.

Seriously, can you say that with a straight face :lol2:

  2. Wow I was almost interested until I saw the title of the movie and read that Fabalous was in it. This sounds like another ghetto flick. For some reason I think she can act but she needs a real role not no hood garbage. ๐Ÿ™„

  3. Though I would not have chosen this as my first role if I was Keyshia, she may need to take this type of role to get her name out there. Let’s be honest, Keyshia’s persona is very street and hood like. What other type of role are people going to offer her? However, is she does well and shows good range, this role could lead to better roles.

I never write people off anymore cause anything can happen. Who thought way back in 1987 that twenty years later Queen Latifah would be the big star she is with an Academy Award nomination under her belt? She wasn’t all that pretty and was a bit overweight but she made all the right moves and here she is today.

Keyshia can shock the world and go to heights people never expected someone like her to reach.

  4. Nice comment Fine-N-Mellow. Good to see people doing more than just throwing dirt.

  5. I wasn’t throwing dirt if you were referring to me. I was commenting on the movie, I said that I think she CAN act. So, I wasn’t throwing dirt at HER, it’s the movie that doesn’t sound good. My goodnes why are people so sensitive on this blog??????

Actually I wasn’t referring to you at all. Keyshia gets a fair share of hate and it will be posted soon enough.

  7. I don’t know about the plot of this but I do wish her and Fab luck. It’s going to be funny to see Fab act. ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Why do folks think talent in one area means talent in another? Keyshia Cole can sing, but who told her she has the skills to be a good actress?
Have you ever even HEARD the girl mention an interest in acting? Maybe she just has an interest in getting a check, which is probably all this project will mean for her ( and I’m saying this because of her non-acting roots, before folks get an attitude). If that’s the case, I suppose I can’t hate on her, but doesn’t this just discredit all those talented black actors and actresses who STRUGGLE to find quality work?

  9. I’m really hating the title:

    “Only the Hood Dies Young”

    WTF? :bag:

  10. Yeah the title is dumb MZ.

@ kands, I feel what you are saying and you make a good point. I do not however think Keyshia or other singers and rappers moving into the movie field discredits real actors, anymore than them moving into the singing field discredits so called real singers. Yeah there is a good chance that Keyshia just wants a check or the chance to hyphenate her name. Whatever the case, I will just wait and see. If she can hold her on then good. If she can’t then her acting career will simply be over before it began.

  11. I’m actually more curious about the Karl Lagerfeld connection…
    Interesting.

Also, I think there are too many out of work black ACTORS, for these semi-talented singers to be taking roles away from them.
