Nia Long to Star in ‘Beaches’ Remake

Beaches Remake to Star Nia Long and Idinia Menzel

Actress Nia Long is set to co-star alongside singer Idinia Menzel in the upcoming Lifetime remake of the classic Bette Middler/Barbara Hershey film Beaches. Long will take on the role of Hillary Whitney, originally played by Hershey, while Menzel will take on the role of C.C. Bloom, originally played by Middler. According to Lifetime both characters will get minor background changes and updated storylines.

The original film revolved around two teens who meet on the boardwalk in Atlantic City and go on to forge a life-long friendship despite their very different backgrounds. The remake will follow the same storyline, while adding various updates, including the reworking of the film’s theme song, Wind Beneath My Wings, which Menzel will reportedly perform.

Principal shooting for the film began this week, with a premiere target of early 2017. In addition to the Beaches remake, Nia fans can also catch the actress in the upcoming Best Man Wedding sequel, as well as the independent film Roxanne, Roxanne.
