Roxanne Shante Biopic Lands Actress Nia Long
Looks like Nia Long isn’t sweating the cancellation of her recent ABC sitcom Uncle Buck. Instead, the 44-year old actress has picked herself up and moved on to the next gig, namely a starring role in the upcoming Roxanne Shante biopic.
Roxanne broke the news herself today via her Instagram page, where she shared a picture of herself and Nia on set. According to Roxanne, who took the rap world by storm at the tender age of 13, Nia will be playing her mother, Miss Peggy.
The Roxanne Shante Story will reportedly chronicle Roxanne’s rise to fame, as well as the subsequent hip-hop war that broke out when the young diva released Roxanne’s Revenge, an answer to UTFO’s iconic 1985 single Roxanne, Roxanne.
Michael Larnell is set to direct the film, while actor Forest Whitaker is set to produce alongside Nina Yang Bongiovi, Mimi Valdes and Erica Brady.
