Nicki Minaj Says She’s Ready to Conquer Hollywood
Barbz hoping for a quickie follow-up to Nicki Minaj’s platinum selling 2014 album The Pinkprint, may be in for a very long wait. Via a recent interview with Nylon magazine, Nicki disclosed plans to put music on the backburner indefinitely to focus on her burgeoning acting career.
“Musically I feel very fulfilled,” Nicki told the magazine. “Now I can start tapping into my acting world, where it’s about passion and not about the money. It’s about me wanting to be what I set out to be when I was in high school: an actress.”
Nicki is well on her way to fulfilling her dream, having co-starred in The Other Woman opposite Cameron Diaz in 2014 and now the third iteration of the Barbershop franchise due out this April.
Nicki is also stepping behind the camera to act as producer on her upcoming namesake comedy with the FreeForm network (formerly ABC Family).
Nicki went into production in December and though no official airdate has been given, is expected to make its debut over the summer. The 30-minute sitcom stars Selita Ebanks as Nicki’s mother, Johnathan Wesley as her father and 11-year old actress Ariana Neal as Nicki herself.
As for when fans can expect new music from the raptress, Nicki makes no promises, however, according to ABC/Freeform documents provided to the press, she will be crafting the theme song to Nicki, which will reportedly feature both she and Ariana.
