“Obsessed” the new movie starring singer turned actress, Beyonce, had it’s world premiere last night in New York City. The screening of the film was held at the School of Visual Arts and hosted by The Cinema Society and MCM. Co-starring Idris Elba and Ali Larter, Obsessed will be Beyonce’s first film in which she is the headliner and the first film in which she does not play a singer. Screen Gems, the studios releasing the movie, has held off on allowing critics to review it and have instead banked on Beyonce’s star appeal and a heavy dose of marketing to get people into the theaters.
Playing on over 2,400 screens across the country, many think Obsessed will more than likely take the top spot and pull in somewhere around 17 million dollars.
(Pics from the premiere can be seen below as well as images from Beyonce’s Today Show performance.)

the dress is ok. but i will see the movie just to give it a chance.
I seen the trailer for this movie and it seemed interesting only because Idris is in it. I like Beyonce and I think she is very talented at a lot of things, but acting isn’t one of them. I understand you want to venture into other things like acting and what not, but I think she is having a hard time convincing people on the big screen that she is an actress. If you want to really improve upon you’re acting skills give up singing for a while and emerse your self in the art of acting. I mean take as many classes as you can. I feel like you can’t be doing 10 projects all at the same while doing a movie and think it is going to be an oscar worthy. You’re promoting Halo and the movie at the same time , seriously focus on one or the other.
I mean they are basically going off her name to sell a movie not her acting skills, so what does that tell you?!
Stephanie did you see the interview that Idris did with Rolling Out magazine?
what did Idris say in the interview?
BEYONCE LOOKED STUNNING IN THAT DRESS LAST NIGHT! when i saw it….i thought i had turned straight for a minute….well not really
@ Bronze_Beauty this is an excerpt,
Elba’s take on the film receiving a PG-13 rating …
“The process of making a movie with Beyoncé was unique, just because she’s such a huge superstar. So when I first looked at the script, I thought the film could have and probably should have received an “R” rating on subject matter alone. But Beyoncé has such a responsibility to her younger fans that I believe it was necessary for them not to try certain things because of that responsibility.”
Connecting With Beyonce…
“I think this was a very important role for her, because it was the first time she wasn’t playing a singer. But when we first started taping, it was difficult for us to really connect as artists because she has such a huge machine behind her. So in the early going it felt divided … almost like it was her and her team on one side, and everyone else on the other. But once the cameras started rolling, she really opened up and those walls began to fall. As a result, I really saw her grow as an artist, and I think you’ll be able to see it as well when you watch the film.”
Ok I don’t want to be the first Negative Nelly but someone has got to say it. The clips I have seen with Beyonce are probably some of the most poorly acted scenes I have ever seen in my life. I watched her on Larry King last night and just cringed during the kitchen scene when she was throwing Idras out. It was bad; really bad. It was as bad as Halle Berry cooing ‘Make me feel good” in Monster’s Ball
She looks cute. The train on that dress can go. It’s would look so much better without it. Her hair and make up is beautiful. I will wait til the movie is on HBO or cinemax. I like her singing and performing, but she has yet to impress me with the acting.
thank you Lala.
And I movie like this being rated PG-13 is already a downgrade. I mean she is robotic in her interviews so you can’t really expect her to be able to open up in movies like that. Cadilac Records wasn’t that bad but it wasn’t really good either. It was okay. Maybe she will get better or maybe she will just Let Go and Let God when it comes to acting.
That dress BeYawnSay wore was over the top and too much. Probably a tacky tina dereon creation.
:lol2: Idris didn’t look enthused at all.
I agree Bey is way better at singing…for the most part her acting really isn’t all that believable…but as with anything practice can lead to great improvements….I wish her movie great success. :hifive:
The fact that they didn’t allow critics to review it first throws up a red flag for me..they are relying on bey’s star power to bring in the numbers? DIDN’T THEY SEE CADILLAC RECORDS?!
The only reason most will go see this flick is because of Elba and that might not even be enough.
I really think they held off on letting critics view the movie early because they did not want them tearing it apart before its release date.
Critics viewed Jamie Fox’s new movie last summer, way before it’s actual release. The Soloist received raves reviews months ago.
:stop:
Screen Gems, the studios releasing the movie, has held off on allowing critics to review it
nuff said…
Wow! Beyonce looks absolutely stunning. She has really stepped her fashion game up. Beautiful dress and gorgeous makeup and hair.
I will be seeing this movie. I want to give Beyonce a chance to prove herself as an actress.
From another site: Bey and her co-stars are predicted to bring in $15-17 mill opening weekend for Obsessed. (We’ll see.)
cadilwack records wasnt enough to prove her acting skills? or dream girls? or Austin Powers? Or that other wack movie with Cuba and she sang in the choir??? :noway:
Wow, Beyonce has been looking great lately! I hope she keeps up this new look and stop letting her Mama dress her!
^^I am talking about since this is her first non-singing role. I am not a person to rip someone apart before I see the whole film. She’s gotten a lot better since then, but I want to see her really prove herself.
I truly believe she does good in her movies, people just dont take her serious. Her role in Dreamgirls was awesome, it’s just the fact that people view her as an singer and nothing else. I have a lot of respect for Beyonce because when she has her eyes set on something and she goes for it regardless of and she proves it. That’s why she is so successful she goes for it. Her role in Cadilac records was awesome also, her transformation was great, she puts everything she has in her roles. Talent!!
If everyone in the world did not do something due to someone else’s opinion we would be in a pickle, there would be no greats in this world.. Because a lot was told; you can’t do that and they did’nt.
Please no negativity on this aboard about Beyonce.
too late :lol2:
omg bey looks so pretty and young in these pics!! now that is how a 27 year old she dress, flawless! she could have still gotten rid of the stockings though. lol
oh d@mn, i didn’t see the train, she so could have done without the train. Dangit, bey you always gotta have the extra piece that just ruins the ensemble! ugggh
also, i don’t think this movie will be #1 because jamie’s movies comes out today as well, but it may come in a #2
@bored, i totally agree!
so the critics haven’t been allowed to speak on the film… interesting.
off the bat, i already know Beyonce’s acting is going to suck, why anyone feels differently is beyond me. the child can barely speak in an interview, let’s be real here. she cannot act. she gets lucky by being who she is and being placed in films with actors who can actually act. she’s got Idris Elba in this one but i doubt even he can save her. she needs to just stick to singing. she’s trying to be a “triple threat” and frankly, she’s falling short.
The movie is genious, I mean come one so many black women hate white women for “taking their men” this movie will do good in the week end opening because people will go see it based on that only, I am going to see the soloist but On monday so Congrats to her, I dris Smart move Baby Smart move :hifive: Ali  go on chick
Wow, they’re predicting it will take #1…….over The Soloist??? REALLY? :bag:
@LIVERPOOL,
I read that somewhere too. You’d think reviews before the film released to theaters would help promotion.
I see the trailer advertising it comes out today and it’s like only a ‘voiceover’ talking about how ‘awesome’ it is; how ’sexy’…..and I expect to see, “Roger Ebert raves…” or “Joel Siegel says…” or “Peter Travers states…” but I see nothing…
I wish her well, but if trailers serve as any evidence, this feature ‘features’ some pretty pedestrian acting coming from a pretty pedestrian script… There is nothing compelling (for me) that makes me want to see it.
The Soloist, however I will go see. I’ve been waiting on that one since last year. It was supposed to release during Oscar season last Fall, but they waited to put it out ‘coz they wanted it to be noticed more and not swallowed up into the Oscar season hoopla.
Good luck at the Box Office! I know her fans will go to see her.
:brownsista:
Oh forgot to comment on her dress…………………………moving on, her MAKEUP is gorgeous. Ali looks pretty too.
:brownsista:
The critic’s reviews are coming in and they are not good. Which explains why Daddy Knowles did not want this movie pre-screened for the critics prior to its release. He knew they would tear it to shreds. Her fans will support it, but this movie will do absolutely nothing for her so called acting career.
I really like that black dress that looks like something I would wear :hifive:
@ Kanyade :hifive: that’s real talk sis  I am going to see the Soloist too. Now that looks like it’s going to be a great movie!
I like the dress. Hmph?
@zy you said beyonce gets lucky because of who she is, nice compliment…who is she? BEYONCE, exactly she has worked hard for her name to be known and it is paying off
I like the dress without the train too much. She almost got it but she allway mess it up with something. Im chilling this weekend. Let me know how both of the movie r.
@MARIO LET ME FIND OUT YOU TURN STRAIGHT FOR A MINUTE LOL.
Can’t wait to see the movie. “Sharon, where do you want me to go?, TO HELL!!!
Love, love, love Beyonce’s music. But I can tell by the clips I’ve seen her acting is going to be mediocre in this film. There are plenty of quality black actresses in Hollywood who could’ve been cast for Obsessed. I’m tired of always seeing Halle Berry and Beyonce whenever a black female role is available. I know both want to play Angela Davis but honestly I think neither would do a good job.
From what I viewed with the trailer, it looks like it is going to be a great movie. I can’t go see it but will look for it on dvd when it comes out. I am not a Bey stan, far from it, but I am just happy that a brown sista can even command the type of roles, attention, money and the likes that she has and that she does not have daddy issues like many black females who fall victim to their beauty, wealth and fame because a lack of a positive male role model in the form of a father figure. I believe that because the people in the movie, Idris, Ali and Beyonce, the movie will do better than expected, but I will be even more amazed if it beats the Soloist.
I thought about supporting this movie, but I can’t stand cheap knock offs , and “Fatal Attraction is a hard film to top. I may wait 2 weeks and go check it out with the free movie pass I got for being an AMC MovieWatcher.
BEYONCE LOOKED FLAWLESS in that dress!!! She better weerk it! ANYWHO a few monkeys dont stop the show! This movie will be #1 in the box office!!
BTW Tickets to the I AM TOUR go on sale TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very Pretty B. Her legs Lawd! GO GIRL!
This movie is a joke just like Beyonce’s acting career. The movie critics have been very harsh on this movie. LOL.
:lol2:
@ Dana @ 7:10 AM
Oooo, Dana. That bad. Geez
I think I’m going to have a Bey film festival soon. I will rent Dream Girls (seen) and Cadillac Records (have not seen) and maybe catch Obsession at a matinee so I can see what she is working with.
Beyonce has limited talent to sing and to speak. She is a beautiful girl, but she is also far overrated. She got a plum acting role for her beauty and not her acting skills. I predict the movie will not do as well as she expects.
I watched the movie Obsessed earlier today. Not very good. Beyonce is a great entertainer, but acting is not her niche.
There were a lot of teenagers in the movie theatre. I predict the underdog movie “Fighting” to take the box office this weekend.
And to HollywoodBS – it is not hating. It is giving an opinion. Grow up.
Call me crazy, but I love Bey’s dress, and the other chick looks cute as well. I’m not usually a fan of Beyonce on the bigscreen, but I’m pretty anxious to see how this turns out.
everyone in my town is talking about this movie even those that are not fans of bey of course im a fan and im going but i have other people that are going with me that arent even fans of her acting the movie just looks like one of those movies where people will be shouting at the screen and i cant wait…. 9:35 cnt get here sooner….i already got my tickets early!
HOLLYWOOD BS….
Are you like ummm 12 or something?
Haters?
I ‘hate’ that word.
This ‘non-stannish fan’ WON’T be going to see the film.
I saw previews….that’s ’seeing’ enough.
:brownsista:
HI HATERS
see you @ the theatres tonight…
Okay so my cousin went to see it this morning and she is a hard core beyonce fan when i asked her how she was she said no comment :lol2: ,
If anyone Unbiased and non stan go to see it Let me know, How it was Bronze beauty let me know boo ;) Beyonce dress is very beyonce whatever that means, Ali look psycho and Idris is the hottest, I am so going to see the soloist too
Hey Real talk
Hey kanyade
hey lady
:hifive:
Very beautiful pictures. I like both dresses. As far as the movie is concerned, NEXT!! I haven’t supported any of Beyonce’s movies since her atrocious acting in DreamGirls. I just refuse to waste any of my hard earned money..
Well, I went online to read the reviews and it average 1 out of 5 stars. You be the judge.
That was the BEST move that Screen Gems made in promoting this movie ( not having the movie reviewed BEFORE opening nite). Like someone said uptop, I seen the trailers & that was some of the worst acting I have seen in awhile. I am usually one for the crazed stalker movies ( luvs the intensity of them) but Beyonce just wasn’t convincing in her character & that sucks b/c she IS one of the main characters. Like I have said so many times Beyonce is a decent performer & she has a nice voice, but the big screen is NOT for her. She needs to stick to the stage. And like someone else up top said, I understand wanting to spread your wings & make your brand bigger, but find something that you are actually good at to do so.
this is not plum role, do you know what a plum role look like
this particular female characater have been acted over and over again from movie to television
Sally field characater Norma Rae is a plum role
Barabar Striesand characater Katey inthe Way we were is a plum role
Cher characater in Moonstuck is plum a role
Whoopie character in the color purple is a plum role
hattie McDaniel in Gone with the wind
there female role are original and never been duplicated again
My favorite reviewer the very funny Mark Rawden said ”
I’d like to call Obsessed a miserable failure, but that would imply this lazy waste of time had some sort of goal it failed to reach. It has nothing. No purpose, no drive, no direction.”
Damn the critics must be pissed they didnt get to see the movie for free :lol2:
http://www.cinemablend.com/reviews/Obsessed-3850.html
he goes hard
THE MOVIE WAS GOOD! HAHA OH SO GOOD beyonce…i mean sasha was out at the end  she was dragin that girl on the floor, yes! i was so hyped and everyone in the theater had great reaztions to certain scenes…i will be going to see it again this weekend…taking my mother this time
To everyone- This is an unbiased opinion. This movie is not the best movie out there. Truth be told, there are way better movies in theater this weekend than this one. It looks like a Lifetime Network movie with famous actors. It was way over-acted and too predictable. Mr. Elba is good in this role but his part lacks originality and depth. Ali Larter is not too bad but her part lacks depth as well. As far as Mrs. Knowles is concerned, she is not believable in this role. I have watched many singers turned actors over the years (both men and women) and I couldn’t make the difference between Beyonce Knowles as singer and Beyonce Knowles as an actress. Some of her scenes and dialogues were downright “uncomfortable”. I felt like I was listening to her interview the whole time, way too rehearsed and predictable. The fact that critics weren’t allowed to screen this movie says it all. Why hide it if it’s that good? I do not believe that everybody who didn’t like this movie and felt ripped off spending their $$$ is out to get Beyonce. People on this blog, after I read the comments, feel like everybody HAS TO like this movie. I do not believe that critics are out to get her, if it was so good, they would have given her credit for it. I also do not believe that just because a black entertainer has a project out that I have to support him/her. I think Beyonce is more of a stage person; I think she would do very well on Broadway or other theatrical shows but acting as someone totally different than herself is not her best asset. At the end of the day it’s art and everybody, no matter what race and taste, should be entitled to their own opinion. Mine is “I do not like this movie”. Actually I was kind of embarrassed about the whole movie because I started thinking about how actors like Kate Winslet, Cate Blanchet, Angela Basset would feel watching this movie. Will they laugh or pity them, idk.
Of course people are going to come back with commercial success over this movie, totally ignoring its competition at the theaters. Just because a movie is number one at the box office doesn’t make it a good movie. If it beats “The Dark Knight” or “Pirates of the Carribean” or “Harry Potter” on its way to the top then I have to admit that maybe it’s a good flick. But looking at the other movies out right now, I am not too proud of its success.
I could not have said it better Clodi79. :iagree:
The Soloist or American Violet are the must see movies this weekend…hands down! :brownsista:
@ Clodi79 thank you for the review.
:iagree: Clodi79. I do not like to post twice for any blog, but when I read your review, I have to say thank you as did Cali_Chick and LaLa did. You were right on the money and I really appreciate it. Thanks for keeping it real.
CLODI79
Not all movies are suppose to be oscar-bait flicks ok? Obsessed is fatal attraction-esque pop-corn thriller, not freaking There will be blood. Don’t take it too seriously child. A lot of award-winning actors do pop-corn flicks like this all the time. O
THE MOVIE IS PREJECTED TO MAKE 27MILL THIS WEEKEND!!!!
@ Hollywood BS
I don’t think anyone would care all that much had Beyonce not said she wanted an Oscar. That award is for seasoned, quality actors who have paid their dues. I think it rubbed many people the wrong way because she obviously gets roles based on her star quality and not her depth as an “actress.”
I agree with the above poster who said Beyonce would probably do great on Broadway. I have said the same thing over and over..she might be able to snag a Tony Award, but I think the Oscar is a s-t-r-e-t-c-h.
There will be blood was the sh-t so was slum dog millionaire, and no country for old man, American Violet and The soloist are the ones my money will go to, Thanks for the review clodi79 but by now you should realize that beyonce’ s fans , people and herself only care about the money not the talent behind so thanks for taking the time to inform us but to them as long as there is money, Quality matters very little …
/!\ Brownsista Family Dark sista delivered two little girls this morning around 6 am  /!\
Prettylady i know beyonce would do great on broadway too :hifive:
prettylady
and what is wrong with dreaming about winning an oscar? in case you didn’t notice, Beyonce is human (yeah! I know, hard to believe huh?). Just like every other entertainer out there, she also dreans about winning an oscar. An oscar is a coveted award and every entertainer in Hollywood wants it. Even Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan had stated that they wanted oscars.
and what is this ish about paying dues? did Jennifer Hudson pay any dues when she won her oscar? hardworking and talented black actresses in Hollywood like Angela Bassett and Alfre woodard who have been working for decades haven’t won oscars because Hollywood doesn’t make roles for them. Yet, a newcomer like J Hud wins for her firsr role. Did I hear people complaining back then? don’t be hypocrites.
Voice
:lol2: @ the quality statement. So let me ask you a question, are Tyler Perry movies also quality? most of his films are rated at about 30 percent and below on rotten tomatoes and are generally trashed by critics ( for legit reasons). Do I hear you complaining about how Tyler perry, Janet Jackson, Shemar Moore etc fans only care about money and not quality? what about J Hud in Sex and the City? was it a “quality” movie? it was also trashed by critics eventhough it did well in the box office. Do I hear you saying that J. Hud fans only care about money :lol2:
Some are you are just plain ridiculous…when you are called haters, you start to protest. SMH. Utterly ridiculous. :lol2:
To everybody offended by my reviews. I know not every movie is an oscar flick. I posted this review here cause it was about a brownista BEYONCE. But I have to tell you that Ali Larter wasn’t that good either. So my negative review has nothing to do with not liking Beyonce cause in fact, I do like her, not in this movie though. People always attack her for choosing singing role but I think that’s where she is at her best cause for some reason, her acting and drama come out naturally when it’s merged with music. Just like how some actresses only do romantic comedies. That’s their niche.
As far as dreaming for an oscar, even if I am an avid movie watcher and critic, I do not believe that winning an oscar necessarily equals “good acting skill”. For example, Jennifer Hudson was excellent in Dreamgirls but wasn’t that good in Sex And The City! It also depends on who are the competition for that year For example, when Halle Berry won an oscar, I totally understood why since her competition was Bridget Jones Diaries. There are also excellent actresses who do not win oscars. Look at Kate Winslet. She is remarkable in any role she plays, yet, nominated so many times, she finally won her first oscar. If I had to vote the other times, she would have had more than 1 oscar by now. Or Angela Bassett. I never understood why she didn’t get an oscar for playing TINA, up to this day, I think that she should have been the first African American Best Actress winner at the oscars (nothing against Halle Berry here!) So for Beyonce to dream of an oscar is actually really good. I think she should take a break from acting and study it. She should turn down roles and wait for that perfect role that would make everybody go “WOW”. After reading other reviews on other sites, a lot of people agreed that Beyonce is looking for an approval as a good actress and this kind of movie is not going to give it. But if she is looking for a commercial success then this is a good way to do it. Most of those movies making tons of money are mostly silly movies anyway! And to Hollywood BS- Yes, even some of Tyler Perry’s movies are silly!
Hollywood Bs when i see your name i skip the post , but since you addressed me let’ s go at it, Tyler perry movies are good , entertaining or horrible but the difference between those and beyonce’ s movies is people can give their opinions agree to disagree , Like when i was saying that I loved what did i get married, but Janet’ s acting needed improvement because when she was crying i could not connect with her on that level, Madea’ s goes to jail was very funny and entertaining but it is not an award winning movie, Diary of a mad black woman was plain old Horrible! and daddy’s little girls bored me to tears and that is coming from a HUGE tyler perry fan , Some people agreed some disagreed and we all went on with our lives, When it comes to beyonce we have to deal with people like you who can not go above their unconditional obsession with beyonce and think rationally Beyonce is a bad actress that is the truth, That is my opinion and obviously so is the opinions of millions others… Nothing you can say, and no matter how many haters you call me can change that! with that being said I think you are an unintelligent insecure chick with too much time on her hands and not enough goals on her own so from that moment on whatever you think and or say is canceled so don’ t waste your time talking to me Baby
I think Beyonce and Co deserve some acknowledgement. When one black actress sells a movie alone that opens the door for studios to give other black actresses a chance.
It’s just a movie. I don’t wish for anyone to fail. If I had disposable income I would go see it and laugh. LOL I have seen bad movies before and regretted it like The Mummy, Enough (that was SUPER horrible), etc.
Maybe I’ll still get the chance.
PS, I have never baught a Beyonce album only because I prefer gospel and classic RnB divas. So can Stand and Haters find peace and love. Please.
Pretty Please.
@Voice: :hifive:
@ CLODI79: :iagree:
@ Mario: You skurr me sometimes, boy!
If an “singer/actor” aspires to dream for an Oscar, perhaps they should study their craft a bit more (in this case, a LOT more). Or just have the unmistakable “it” factor to nail it like JFoxx or JHud. Some AA music entertainers such as Queen Latifah, Brandy, Ludacris, Whitney Houston, Will Smith, Diana Ross (Evan and Tracee included), Common and Alicia Keys, have a natural ability to transport their emotions to film. They possess a certain warmth, innate sense of adding depth to a character, and lack of self awareness that allows them embody a role and make it believable.
I’m afraid that Beyonce falls into the Madonna category on this one. Both have an extreme need to be viewed as “extra” or “fierce”. And that only works in music, so they will both continue to excel beyond all expectations in that regard. Not to say that Bey shouldn’t act – she should and can do what she damn well pleases.
But like Clint Eastwood said at the end of Magnum Force, “A man’s gotta know his limitations”. Or woman, in this case.
As for the whole “hater” issue, as far as entertainers go, some are exceptionally talented in all fields and some aren’t. VERY few attain such acclaim. So having not had the opportunity to meet Beyonce, I don’t hate her.
YES BEY, SHE WAS MOPPING THAT GIRL ON THE FLOOR :bag: haha it was just a fun movie, people over analyze it when it doesnt need to be, of course it was predictable, did you think it wouldnt be? it was a fun movie and people loved it it was sexy fun exciting and got the audience involved like “oh no she didnt, oh girl yes she did!” it was that kinda movie and it was different from what else was released this weekend because it was just fun im going to see it again
i honestly believe people think beyonce isnt believable because they dont try to look past her name beyonce they are looking to hard for beyonce and thats all they see, thats your fault :bag: SHARON WAS DOING HER THING
@banjiboi, i dont care if i scare you, whats it to me?
im not big on numbers because like i said before long as i liked it thats all that matters but for all the haters that said the movie would fail it mad 11 milion on friday alone….
@HOLLYWOOD BS i agree that there is nothing wrong with dreaming of something and stating it outloud, the problem with people is they take it to far beyonce said that she would love to win a oscar ONE TIME and everyone ran with it as if she is begging for one people throw things out of porportion as usual and its usually the people that dislike her without any valid reason…oh well if she wasnt on top then everyone would love her, it comes with the game
Wow! Go ahead Beyonce(as well as her costars, Idris and Ali)!

‘Obsessed’ banks an impressive $11.1 mil on Friday

Categories: Box Office
The don’t-you-dare-take-my-man catfight thriller Obsessed knocked out the competition on Friday, pulling in an impressive $11.1 million from 2,514 theaters, a number that approaches some estimates for its entire opening-weekend gross. The figure puts Obsessed on track for an opening as high as $30 million, which would easily be Beyoncé Knowles’ best three-day weekend debut ever in which she was the film’s main star. Fighting, starring up-and-comer Channing Tatum as a New York City brawler, came in second at $4.5 million, a healthy figure that should bring it close to $13 million for the weekend, a bit higher than some estimates. Zac Efron’s 17 Again held firm with $3.9 million, beating out The Soloist, which grossed a disappointing $3.2 million. At that pace, the Jamie Foxx-Robert Downey Jr. drama may not break $10 million for the weekend. Disneynature’s debut documentary Earth also underperformed with just $2.9 million. See the complete breakdown below and come back on Sunday for a full weekend recap in the Box Office Report.
1. Obsessed — $11.1 mil
2. Fighting — $4.5 mil
3. 17 Again — $3.9 mil
4. The Soloist — $3.2 mil
5. Earth — $2.9 mil
6. State of Play — $2.08 mil
7. Monsters vs. Aliens — $2.05 mil
8. Fast and Furious — $1.9 mil
9. Hannah Montana: The Movie — $1.8 mil
10. Crank: High Voltage — $0.8 mil
Mario,
I guess I should have added a  in order to assure you that my comment to you was made in jest! I actually admire your devotion to your idol, so don’t get your chest all swole, ‘k? :lol2:
And perhaps some people are actors themselves and therefore dig deeper into the art of acting when they see it up on the screen, numbers be damned. It’s all a matter of opinion.
banjiboi you know you cool with me….where you been?
@Mario,
Now you really had me skurred that time!
I’m good. Been concentrating on my blog.
All I know is you betta not be showing up at the theatre, dressed as Sharon, jumping up on the stage and encouraging people to make it like The Rock Horror Picture Show!
i saw the movie and i thought it was great. everyone in my theater enjoyed it too b/c they were talking back to the screen and laughing so hard at some of those lines.
not every movie has to be oscar worthy for it to be good. sometimes, people just want to see a fun movie and that is exactly what obsessed is, a FUN movie! if you can’t take it for what it is, then in the words of idris–BREATHE B!TCH (nobody take offense to this, it was just so funny the way he said it that i had to use it) :lol2: :lol2:
JUST MY OPINION ON “OBSESSED” AND BEYONCE KNOWLES-ACTRESS!!!!!!!!
Beyonce’s limited acting skills is not what prevents her from being considered a respected actress–its her alter ego and glamorous image that underminds any efforts of a convincing portrayal.
I dont think Beyonce is a strong enough actress to play a lead or stand out role in any film. This could have been a really good movie if it wasn’t so predictable and over-dramatic. Beyonce kills me when she tries to play her sista card :brownsista: by fighting the black woman’s fight by kicking this white girls *** and embellishing cliches such as :brownsista: “I’ll show you crazy”. She tries to capture the essence of a typical black woman, wife and mother but the problem is, I cannot relate to Beyonce on none of those ways. Yes she is black and yes she has to work harder than her white counterparts in order to be successful but her image is not down-to-earth or approachable to a point where people can relate (She is a STAR  and not anything like us). She doesnt have any children so how in the hell I am suppose to see Beyonce as a mother. And as far as a wife is concern she we dont see that side of her either vulernable, unselfish, compromising. Beyonce is unreal at being anyone other than Beyonce. Her mother always said that the image of Beyonce and DC is to look like glamorous stars and to stand apart from everyone else. This image draws a fine line that separates Beyonce from anything pratical and realistic.
So I saw The Soloist last night. It was excellent. Jamie amazes me; dude is so talented. And Robert Downey Jr. just awesome. Definitely some Oscar-worthyness going on in this film.

Her blessing and her bane.
Thanks for your review/comments.

Obsessed made $11.1 million opening night and is predicted to rack-up $27 million this weekend.
The Soloist made $3.4 million opening night.
The dress-I loved it. I thought it was very fitting.
It was Balmain or something like that, not House of Dereon.
Her hair and make-up, GORGEOUS!
Too bad she won’t wear it like that on her tour.
Acting: I actually like Beyonce’s movies.
I was an AP fan before she was on it. You’re supposed to overact in that movie.
Fighting Temptations was good, her crying and being a sassy woman from the south was very believable.
She still had a long way to go.
Pink Panther shouldn’t count.
She was playing herself.
Dreamgirls was her first REAL role.
And she got even better in CR
I’m going to see Obsessed tonight and from the TV spots and trailer, I think Beyonce and Ali carry this movie.
What separates Beyonce from other actresses is we dont see other actresses in any way other than when they are acting so they have one up on Bee. Beyonce is all over the stage and billboards with the diva persona, you can not say that about some one like Melissa Williams for instance. So couple that with her limited acting chops.and you see how it easy for her not to be taken seriously.
Check out “Taking The Stage” on MTV on Thursday @ 10pm after Making the Band! The Real Life “Fame”.
Couldn’t any “BLACK” woman have played this part to a T, even Solange would have done excellent playing that role. They should have given it to her? Messing with her husband, her child and now she angry. A Mad Black Woman, no skills needed. Go figure!
@banjiboi, i thought about it…then i decided there was to many black people in there for me to show out… :lol2:
@wohoo yes that part was funny when he told her to breathe like that everyone laughed and started clapping when beyonce said the b word a few times i was cracking up as well
@Mario stop lying. Everyone in your town is not speaking of this movie. Maybe if she and her team didn’t make the movies all about her they would be more successful. There are a lot of talented actors and actresses in this movie and if they stop trying to make everything a Beyonce piece and respected and acknowledged the other people on the projects people wouldn’t have such a conflict with her movies. I believe that is why the keep flopping it’s just over kill. Idris is a pretty established actor himself and I think he should be out promoting this movie. But the fact that he is not tells you what he thinks of it. That is what happened in DreamGirls and Cadillac Records. And in Dreamgirls she was not the star but they tried to make it about her. She needs to just relax. If people can see you all the time they will wait for you to come on DVD. And that is what is going on with her movies and music. I wish her well on her continued success but I really hope she and her team learn that sometimes less is more.
@bee i love how you tell me im lying  i guess you werent at the movies last night in my town, i only read your first line dont care to read the rest but good look at trying to tell me what i know because in the end you are completely wrong :iagree: :iagree: :iagree: …thanks
oh yeah i forgot her NYC tour date sold out so quick they had to add another one for the next night and those tickets are almost sold out as well…so try to tear her down, it wont work dont believe me, go to ticketmast yourself and find out  this chick is so high in demand bey will always have a :hater: following her around
I did not see the movie bcuz i saw enuff from the trailers. I’m 29 so i saw the “real” obsessed movies like “Fatal Attraction” with Micheal Douglass, Glenn Close, “THe Hand that Rocks the Cradle” once you see that type of calibre, its hard to dumb yourself down. i think those that like this movie(please, no offense) are a younger crowd who are either harcore fans, it is their “Fatal Attraction” for this generation so they embrace, or/and easy to please with cliche plots, lines and the white girl stole my man so i beat her but syndrome. Beyonce is a beautiful woman, outstanding singer/entertainer, okay dancer(sorry its mostly stripper moves, Ciara is the # 1 dancer, she’s a female usher) but a borderline bad actress. Everytime she plays a movie, i see Beyonce the singer, and i shouldn’t. THink about it, with Aaliyah in that vampire movie, you didn’t see Aaliyah the singer. I was scared to death of soft-spoken, angel looking Aaliyah because she became the character. Beyonce can’t do that. Im not a hater but a realist. She will never get an OScar and i would respect her more if she would deflate the ego and come down and stick to her other talents, she has a lot, but this isn’t 1 of them.
Why do a lot of her fans( not all bcuz i know sum who understands she can’t act) think if you don’t worship her, you hate her. Why is it either or. Your not a fan, your a cult follower almost. Some people understand she’s human. Its not a matter of her being in demand, logic can tell the average intelligent person that Beyonce is on her way to being legendary but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have flaws. The legendary part, thought not 2b 2 hasty, she has to give 2 more albums, in my opinion, but i see the path she is going. BUt she overexposes her self, physically and career wise, WHy ru putting out 2 videos every 2 months. Its like she bombards the public with herself. You can’ ever miss her
haters are over analyzing :lol2:
It’s a popcorn flick, nothing more nothing less.
BEY IS QUEEN!
get ‘em
But did Beyonce consider it a popcorn flick? That’s the real ? We know it is, but did the producers which was her and her father consider it that. I guarantee you if Beyonce heard you say that she wouldn’t gleefully agree . She did this from the heart. Acting isn’t her only source of income. She can turn down roles if she wants, she isn’t a starving actress. She took this role cuz she thought it would show that she is growing as an actress, but it had the reverse effects. She isn’t worse, but she isn’t growing and even if she was this movie didn’ t give her that opportunity,
Popcorn indeed. My best friend saw it; she said she laughed more than anything.
:brownsista:
I saw the movie yesterday night and it was damn good! worth my 10 bucks!
@Kanyade it’s true that We laughed a lot in the theater!
Kanyade: :lol2: Haven’ t you heard? Beyonce stans mean to say that she has no depth and we shouldn’ t think about what she does since all she does is basically “bubble gum” My aunt saw the movie and said I quote
i was most ashamed when all the black people on the theaters were saying “whup that b-tch’ s -ss” and then it downed on me that people saying beyonce stans have low iqs and stay ghetto and uneducated are right, even Idris acting skills seemed as if it had been down graded to suit the rest of the cast, and the movie was very entertaining but it would have been better had someone put some kind of intelligence level requirements to block all the snappy homosexuals and banquishas away
Unquote. I died at that last comment :lol2:
Beyonce is improving her actress skills, not on point yet but improving, she’s not that good as an actress because she looks too sweet with her always smiling face! anyways! I love her!
Any1 can look at her song selections especially from Sasha Fierce side & see instead of an upgrade like her single from Bday, she is downgrading. Diva is a juvenile chant song that says, basically, if your not rich like me your nothing. I’d rather songs like “Superwoman” by Alicia Keys to sing to & let represent me. At least she caters to her audience who for the most part aren’t balling or rich, but trying 2 get by, especially since we are in a rECESSION/dEPRESSION.
what is this ish about paying dues? did Jennifer Hudson pay any dues when she won her oscar?
@Hollywood BS
Some people have break out roles like Jennifer Hudson did in the case of Dreamgirls. There is nothing wrong with setting goals but Beyonce got a whole lotta room for growth if she wants to be taken seriously as an actress.
Why wasn’t Ali billed as the star? She carried the plot out and her performance outshined Beyonce. I can’t understand this. Somebody spent 11 million, can we say who?
LOL @ GAbrielle… Im mad at the fact you just TOTALLY ignored the “Beyonce” side of the album and only concentrated on the “Sasha Fierce” side. As if none of the songs on B’s side showed any growth of Beyonce as an artist.
@GAbrielle i was surprised to see a few older people in the audience at the 9:30pm movie and i thought to myself….if they were to see this movie i thought it would at least be the earlier movie….yes there was alot of young adults but there were a few older adults too shocked me too
and for whoever called me out and said my town wasnt talking about this movie tell me how friday alone the movie can make 11 milion and then turn around saturday and make 11 milion, number one box office this weekend, thanks
Okay I’m a bit late…
Bey is just FA-BU-LOUS in this dress! Her body is on point! I’ve never seen her as slim as she’s now after the Dreamgirl era! Her make up is just perfect, the shoes, the hair….PERFECT!!!
I’ve not seen the movie (and won’t see it) so I can’t talk about it or about Beyonce’s acting in it BUT I still believe that she’s a very very very ambitious woman who wants to achieve a lot and that’s true sometimes she tries so hard!
There’s nothing wrong being ambitious but she has to understand that before making 2 movies a year she has to take acting lessons cause i’ve seen Cadillac Records and it’s still:” Beyonce playing Etta” like it was “Beyonce playing Deena jones”! She’s not the character!
She is definitely one of the biggest entertainers of this generation, a great vocalist and a good dancer! BUT before claiming she’s an actress and saying she wants an oscar she has still a lot to do! Look at Kate winslet she’s definitely one of the most talented actress we have in this country and it took her more than 15 YEARS to have an academy award!
Even if she has the good movie and the good role (like Jennifer hudson) her acting is still so…” Beyonce” whatever it means!
But she can act in as many movies as she wants it doesn’t matter : if the trailer don’t attract me I won’t see it! So I don’t understand why some people here want her to stop acting! She an artist who tries new things and tries to grow as an actress and I respect her for that!
Mario: I would have been suprised to if i seen any1 over early 30’s in there 2.
Marie: Ic where your coming from. of course you can do whateva you want-its a free country. Maybe people are just tired of seeing roles go 2 her that could’ve went 2 females more talented or maybe that’s just me. Not saying if Beyonce stops acting there will be peace on the earth. Though, when you think about it, her roles were singing, so maybe its hard to find good actresses that can sing and act. True, she is extremely ambitious so she gets kudos for that, but like i said in an earlier post either stop acting or take acting classes-something gotta give.
people came saying beyonce is improving or she need more growth, is this her 6, 7, or 8th movie, if she haven’t improve yet she will never.
there are three thing i want to see in a movie good storytelling, good directing and good acting
acting is a serious and noble craft for people with true gifted talant, not for a person who just want to be actor just because
i for one will not support a person montary who is a lousy actor, i mean anybody

I guess if you ignorant stans have paid 4 times to see the movie in one weekend it would gross that much :lol2:
All time box office movies that have made history listed above hahahaha STANS :loser: Umm seems like Obsessed and Beyonce are still the biggest LOSERS. Beyonce sucks at acting, as a matter of fact she is not even a great singer or dancer and her weekend sales will never ever fall into the catagory sales for the movies listed above. But I guess if she wants to continue to steal, lie, cheat, step on others, and buy her way in then knock herself out. Beyonce is not an icon nor will she never ever be a legend nor win an Oscar or Tony Award DREAM BIG losers :loser: So go ahead and hate on me :hater: because I know the delusional wanna be stans will be responding.
Yup the movie is number one this weekend. I guess she’ll get that oscar. *Sarcasm*
@GAbrielle yeah there weere people i would say looked to be in their 40s as well, a good amount too
i hate when people say these roles could have gone to other black artist…beyonce had two movies in a row but its been 2-3 years before they were released…my point is thats not alot at all do you mean to tell me out of two years there is only one movie with a black woman in it? if you dont want to see her movies dont go just like you dont have to listen to her on the radio, if i didnt like her i wouldnt waste my time telling people how tired of her i am
The mad black woman role has been played a thousand times before and there’s really no effort for it, but even with Beyonce acting as one she sucked and she’s ghetto so the role should have been a piece of cake for her, but once again she bombed. It’s funny because I haven’t even seen the movie and I refuse to spend my hard earned money. By looking at the trailers alone I already know what the deal is. Just know that making facial expressions while speaking isn’t acting. Beyonce is a great entertainer and is really pretty, but intelligence and acting is not her forte.
I’m one of the ones that went to see the Soloist this weekend thank God. It was totally worth my $8.00. The actors were on point and the movie was beleivable. It was as if you understood the characters and felt as if it were you in the movie. And even though the movie isn’t #1 it had quality. Kudos to Downey and Foxx for keeping me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Kudos to Beyonce for trying.
Stephanie Kelly is awake and mad as hell check this out : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvGaF0ywIkU
lol if you call beyonce ghetto i really want to know what you call others that i see out on the street everyday…. wow
The same people hollering about how much money the film made this weekend are the same ones who refuse to admit that Beyonce can’t act. Just because a movie was #1 doesn’t mean it was any good. All it means is that Beyonce’s name filled the seats, which is why she was cast in the first place.
@voice i love kelly rowland i actually relate more to her last album then any beyonce album…ms. kelly was a great album and im still mad that people didnt catch on, i love that song you posted as well her voice is GREAT one of my favoirte kelly rowland songs ever was “bad habit” and if anyone here never heard it look it up on youtube that is a great song  one of my favorite songs of all time
True @pretty lady. Ok I take ghetto back@Mario. Let me just say for the chick to be so upper class, she sure has an awesome vocabulary. I guess money can’t buy you brains. That sucks.
@ Mario I know!!!!! I just put it in my ipod and i cant stop listening to Kelly has always been a great performer but without anyone behind you telling you, you got it keep on going it’ s hard to keep the confidence i love how she was performing like, “Hell no i’m backt witches i’ m bout to take yall down” Lool my favorite song of her is “unity”
Kelly is cool but she just doesn’t have that star quality-she can make sum noise if she starts having better song selections to put out-but who really suprised me was Solange-her cd is better than Beyonce’s and kelly’s put 2gether- i was floored when i heard it-she is so grown lyrically and content wise compared 2 her sister
I take that last comment back(lol) seen the performance-kelly did her thang-the last performance i seen was Bet and she was kinda shaky 2me, but she came hard and like she was mad- Kelly like listen i ain’t the only 1 with a voice-turn the lights on the brown skin sistas- and she got more soul 2me in the voice 2b honest beyonce got passion in her voice but that real soul i never felt-soul like Mary,Alicia and the likes
@voice yes in that video she was like its my time to shine and i really hope she does, and honestly i think beyonce wants her to shine too, her vocals are on point in that song and “love again” is my favorite song along with bad habit
@GAbrielle solange cd was pretty good as well i really liked cosmic journey…i donno why lol it just really liked that one and “wouldve been the one” ( i think thats the name i cant remember) was a great song as well
Mario: Well 2b honest if people are tired of her its b/cuz she is EVERYWHERE I know sum hardcore fans who don’t like the idea of everytime she comes out its like over exposure-everywhere you turn she’s there-i never heard of artists doing this 2 videos thing, even with B-day it was crazy-i think she’s aftraid 2 leave the limelight or some1 might steal it and even though Rihanna doesn’t even compare 2 her-she was doing her thang 4 awhile, like Kanye said, Rhianna made Beyonce work(not verbatim) he meant it in a good way-competition always brings out our best- but yeah, its like let us miss you-please
Mario-you can’t 4get Valentine’s day & God Given-I think they should do a song 2gether- her and beyonce- that would be cool!
your right valentines day and god given names are great too haha i thought i was the only one that was digging that cd but i guess your right beyonce is always everywhere so i understand, i guess because i like her so much i dont mind but i can see why it would bother people
Valentines day is my ***.
@Cali_Chick american voilet was sooooo good. I seen it when i was in california. That a movie everyone should support if it a theatre near you.
@mario i know you was bugging in the movie theatre lol. I did not see it i wait until i see it on video or cable. I just chill out and enjoy the weather.
