On The Set With Gabrielle & Beyonce

Wilson from BlackFilm.com was nice enough to send BrownSista movie stills from Gabrielle Union and Beyonce Knowles’ new film, Cadillac Records. As previously reported, the film revolves around Leonard Chess (Adrian Brody), the founder of Chess Records, a company that was responsible for launching the careers of many blues musicians during the 1950s and 60s. Beyonce landed the coveted role of Etta James, while Gabrielle Union won the role of Geneva Wade, girlfriend to blues legend, Muddy Waters, played by Jeffrey Wright. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters December 5th.

Beyonce is growing in her choice to become an actress. Naw, she’s not real good at it now. But I think as she continues to get out there and take roles, she will grow into an acceptable actress. I don’t see ever getting great at it. Either you got that talent or you don’t. Some can pass as an actress. Halle Berry fits that category as far as I’m concerned. She’s not a great actress, but she can do the job good enough.

Tyler Perry does it all the time, so does Spike Lee, as well as other producers/directors. Why not Bey? Most singers/rappers are crossing over to acting, why not Beyonce? Now just because it’s a black movie with any of my less than favorite actors/actresses, doesn’t mean I have to blindly support it because it’s black. It’s gotta be more than just having that superstar singer/dancer/rapper/model in a leading role, it’s gotta make sense, have positive roles for black men and women and not the same old junk that has been regurgitated back to back for decades.
Just because it’s beyonce, doesn’t mean it’s gonna be a spectacular movie or that this role will propel her to MEGA SUPER STARDOM (look at Carmen, Gold Member, Fighting Temptations, The Pink Panther, and Dreamgirls when Jennifer Hudson out shined her in).
All I’m just saying is, just wait until the movie is released to theaters without the super high expectations. If she’s good, great…If not, I’m sure she’ll find something better to work on.

Rihanna has released 3 albums in the last two years and has 4 #1 hits. Rihanna just received her 5th #1 hit from T.I. album. IIWAB will be # 1 shortly followed by SL. So, we can compare after the 3rd album. The bottom line VOICE, you hate in EVERY Beyonce thread regardless of the topic. We really don’t care if you don’t watch the movie.
