Even Oprah decided against making heads explode with her annual Favorite Things. But there is an upside to this. And GT’s gonna help by serving up ideas on how to make the Holidays more meaningful…from low cost to creative, to the usual suspects of gift items that all sistas go ga ga over… Read the rest of this entry »

Beyonce Tops The Charts & Makes History

Billboard Magazine has released the official Soundscan numbers for Beyonce’s new album I Am Sasha Fierce and as usual they are pretty much in tune with Hits Daily Double’s estimates from last week. HDD predicted sales of about 500-550k and Beyonce came in right under that with first week sales of 482,000. These number are good enough to put Beyonce at the top of next’s week’s album charts- however, not all news is good. T.I. and Rihanna refuse to let go of their grip on the singles charts and thus Beyonce’s Single Ladies was kept out of the top spot. Single Ladies however does occupy the top spot on the R n’ B singles charts and the digital sales charts.

InPhotos: Cadillac Records Movie Premiere

The Los Angeles premiere for the film Cadillac Records was held last night and the two Brown Sista stars of the movie were there to walk the red carpet. Beyonce Knowles and Gabrielle Union, who coincidentally share the same hairstylist, showed up for the event looking very coordinated, in basic black dresses. Beyonce, who stars as Etta James in the film, was accompanied by her mom Tina Knowles, while Gabrielle showed up with good friends and fellow actresses, Sanaa Lathan and Regina Hall. Gabrielle recently spoke about her long standing relationship with her co-star and who knew- the two have been good friends every since they were teenagers.

Classic Brandy

With the release of Brandy’s new “Human” CD right around the corner, I decided to show our beautiful Brown Sista some love and post up a classic video of hers from the 90s. You guys know how much of a fan I am of 80s and 90s music, and no one reminds me of the 90s more than Brandy. Miss Norwood was the Rihanna/Hannah Montanna of the mid 90s. Brandy was a teen actress and singer and excelled equally at both. With an estimated worth of 10 million dollars in 1995, Brandy was the spokeperson for Candies, Covergirl and a host of other companies. Topping the charts with multiple hits from her first CD, producer Babyface tapped Brandy to appear on the soundtrack for the film Waiting To Exhale and out of that collaboration came one of my favorite songs.

Brown Sistas Rock The American Music Awards

The 35th Annual American Music Awards ceremony was held last night and it was quite a huge evening for Brown Sistas. Both Alicia Keys and Rihanna walked away with multiple statuetts, two a piece and gave blockbuster performances to boot. Alicia gave an amazing performance of her single, Superwoman, with raptress Queen Latifah and opera singer Kathleen Battle. Rihanna also gave a spectacular performance of her single Rehab and did so while wearing the most amazing bad ass biker babe outfit I have ever seen- complete with jewel encrusted eye-patch. Next up was Sasha Fierce who was not about to be left out of all the hoopla. Though Beyonce was not up for any awards, she did perform her soon to be #1 hit, Single Ladies and totally brought the crowd to their feet.
