Singer Ciara co-hosted Polow da Don’s record label launch party and she was just about the only high profile celebrity who came out to support the man who calls himself King Of The White Girls. Buzz circulating had Janet Jackson attending- as da Don is rumored to be producing tracks for her upcoming album. Janet however was a no show, as were all those White girls Polow likes to brag about giving the Black sound to. As expected, Black women did show up to support this silly Negro as Ciara was joined by T-Boz and up and comer Keri Wilson.

America’s Next Top Model winner Eva Pigford is the latest celebrity to be captured on film doing what we have all done- making love. Unfortunately for Eva, the man who was in possession of this tape has now decided to release it to the whole world and thus Eva will soon be on Dr. Phil crying her eyes out. Eva has been my favorite ANTM winner so far and I really hate to see her image tarred in such a way, but at the time this event is the perfect excuse for me to tell all you sistas out there to STOP. Recording artist that is. Rumors had been swirling for months that Janet would leave Virgin Records and follow her beau, Jermaine Dupri, to Island Def Jam where is the VP or the urban division. News of Janet’s departure from her long time record label came as no surprise to her fans but few, if any, think Def Jam is the best place for her to be. I personally am just a bit disappointed because this means Jermaine will have even more control over Janet’s music and quite honestly, I just don’t think he is the best producer for her to work with. But you can’t tell a woman in love anything and thus Janet will have to learn the hard way that you shouldn’t always mix business with pleasure.

Some months ago when the Essence article featuring Kim Porter and Sean Diddy Combs hit the stands, I wanted to tackle the reasons why I thought this man refused to commit to Kim and the family they were raising. Because I had not fully made up my mind, I put the subject aside and went about business as usual. However, seeing as though the Kim Diddy union has officially come to an end, yet again, I think now would be a perfect time to delve into why women like Kim end up mothers (I hate the term babymama) before they end up wives. For me this issue goes far beyond Kim and Diddy as Kim is just one of many sistas who have children but no husband to go along with those children.

It was a busy weekend for Black Hollywood as several celebrity sistas came out to show their support for charitable causes. Beyonce helped feed the homeless while Vivica Fox showed up to lend her time and energies to the Allen Iverson celebrity baseball challenge. Rumors that actress Tisha Campbell and her husband, Duane Martin, have broken up are sweeping the net but due to the original sources (MTO & Wendy Williams) I will just hold off on believing it. What I do know for sure though, is that the actress, along with Queen Latifah and Mo’Nique, spent this past Saturday mentoring teenage inmates at the Youth Study Center in Philadelphia. Mo’Nique told the teenage inmates that they must stop being disrespectful and ignorant and stop blaming others for their wrongdoings. Queen Latifah told the juvenile inmates to “surround themselves with positive people and find role models that will truly move them forward in life.” And of course Tisha did her part by using her beautiful voice to sing a gospel hymn for the crowd at the Saturday afternoon appearance.
Former Girlfriend, Jill Marie Jones, is in talks to star in a new movie with singer and wanna-be actress Jessica Simpson. The movie, tentatively titled, Major Movie Star, revolves around Jessica of course, a pampered movie star who joins the army to impress a movie producer. Jill will play Jessica’s sidekick and blah, blah, blah, we all know the rest. I love Jill but anything with Jessica Simpson as the star is doomed to fail at the box office.
R n’ B diva, Keyshia Cole, released the video for her first single, Let It Go, from her long awaited sophomore album, Just Like You, last night on BET’s Access Granted. The video, directed by Benny Boom, features cameos from the track’s producer, Missy Elliott, rapper Lil Kim and New York DJ, Angie Martinez. Let It Go was released to radio stations four weeks ago and presently sits at #17 on the R n’ B charts. As you all know, Kelly Rowland released her second solo album last week and sadly, sales have been less than spectacular. According to Billboard, the Miss Kelly album moved 82,500 copies. I believe that number is less than what her first album sold and even less than what Hits Daily Double reported. Still, Kelly and the Knowles family put on shiny happy faces to attend Kelly’s album release party which was held last night. Check out Kelly below look totally fabulous.
