Five Women whose careers have expirations dates. This was one of the most interesting articles I have read online in a while. As I sat back and attempted to think of five sistas whose careers I thought had expiration dates fast approaching, I realized that I could think of none. Was this a good thing? Are the sistas who presently hold the top spots in acting and music so talented that their careers could possibly be infinite? Well in my mind- yes. However, I realize not everyone feels the way I do, and so naturally this is where you guys, my readers, come into play.

I freely admit to being a Robin Givens fan and always felt she got a bum rap from the media and the Black community in general who labeled her a gold digger. As you all know Robin married Mike Tyson back in 1988 when he was the World’s Heavyweight Boxing Champion and a beloved figure of the media. Their marriage was tumultuous to say the least and they were divorced just a year later. Tyson walked away from the short lived marriage unscathed but Robin suffered a career fallout and was labeled the most hated woman in America. Since then the sista has starred in a few low budget movies and appeared on a few shows here and there, but her career never really recovered and almost 20 years later, and at the insistence of Oprah Winfrey, Robin has written a book to finally tell her side of the story.

OK, I am being a bit dramatic, but according to Hits Daily Double, based on one day sales, Rihanna’s album is expected to only sell around 160-170,000 copies this week. That number is not good enough to land her album, Good Girl Gone Bad, in the number one slot and may not be good enough to even land it in the number two position, as HDD also reports that T-Pain’s album is due to sell around the same amount. In other words, Rihanna and T-pain will basically be fighting over the number two spot while HDD reports that Sir Paul McCartney’s new album, Memory Almost Full, will grab poll position with sales around 180,000.

The MTV Movie Awards aired last night and like most people, or women at least, you could care less who won, you just wanna see what everyone was wearing. Who showed up with who and what they were wearing is what most award shows are about these days anyway and MTV is always a great place to show up with your new partner or your new pumps. As you can see to your upper left, Angela and Vanessa Simmons showed up with each other- again. They are becoming like Laverne & Shirley- Albert & Costello. I expect them to announce they will officially become known as Angela & Vanessa any day now. Vanessa’s (I think that’s her) leopard print outfit is really cute. Her sister’s all black dress just doesn’t stand out enough for me though. If you are going to go to an awards show, you should at least try to be the hottest chick there- and not just blend in.

Number 1 single that is. Yep, according to Monster’s & Critics, Rihanna’s worldwide smash single, Umbrella, was originally intended for Mary J. Blige. Rihanna however says she loved the song so much when she first heard it that she was determined to get it. So determined that she confronted one of the song writers at the Grammy Awards and told him Listen, Umbrella is my song. Two days later the singer said she was told the single was officially hers. Now one can only wonder how Mary would have sounded singing this tune but I get the feeling she would have torn it up. But who cares what I think. Both Ciara and Beyonce took to the stage this weekend to perform in front of their adoring fans. Ciara headlined the HOT 97 Summer Jam Concert, while Beyonce continued to thrill crowds in the U.K with her sold out Beyonce Experience tour. First up however is Ciara performing live for the first time since the Redline premiere back in April. The sista continues to use her high school cheerleading and gymnastics background to perform some really amazing moves on stage. I can totally see Ciara in a female version of Steppin’ or Stomp The Yard. This type of movie would fit her perfectly- far more than the remake and lead role in Mama I want To Sing .

Actress Meagan Good, who was nominated in the Best Kiss category at the MTV Movie Awards, showed up for the event decked out in a strapless babydoll dress and looking like a million bucks. Meagan hands down wins my vote for not only best dressed but for best hair and make-up as well. Yes, I know the sista was sporting her signature name plate earrings again, but just this once I will not hold it against her as the rest of her outfit was definitely on point. Meagan was one of only a handful of Black women at the event and what made her stand out to me was her naturalness. In the era of big wigs, heavy make-up and next to nothing outfits, Meagan’s overall good girl next door look was quite refreshing. Her hair was was gorgeous and natural looking, while her make-up was to die for. I am a huge fan of drawn on eyebrows (I admit it) and hers were perfectly sculpted. Kudos to Meagan’s stylist, hair and make-up people. This is the best I have seen our sista looking in quite some time.

In between preaching to you all this week I actually found time to update BrownSista.net and create galleries for Shar Jackson and Buffy the Body. Yes I said Buffy- lol. Also added were high quality photos of a beautiful Mary J. Blige photo shoot taken last year and a shoot I believe Kelis did in the U.K last year as well. Other galleries updated include Jamelia, Nia Long, Meagan Good and what would a week be like without pics of Beyonce. The sista performed in Marceille a few nights ago and well- she looked awful glittery and even more jiggly. Go check’em out for yourself.
