I Think I’m Addicted To Chapstick

posted by Sista on February 7, 2008

Actually not just chapstick, but anything balmy that goes on the lips.I actually did a search of “lip balm” or something like that and to my surprise there are websites devoted to this obsession and some actually believe it’s a conspiracy… to do what I have no idea. Anyway, I used to chalk this up to me being a girly girl, but now I’m not so sure.I buy lip products in bulk and rarely if ever go inside a store without picking up Chapstick, Blistex… something.I hate lipstick and can’t stand lip gloss, but I am absolutely mad over anything designed to keep my lips soft, supple and extra plump looking. Carmex is one of my favorite products, but recently I found -> this website < - and my life has not been the same since. If you are a lip balm fan as I am you will be in absolute heaven.

Trina Celebrates Black History Month

posted by Sista on February 6, 2008

Yes, I am dead serious. Ordinarily I would never post something like this, but even I laughed when I saw this cover with Trina on it. The Miami rapper graces the February cover of Smooth Magazine, which just so happens to also be their “Black History” issue. Now I know this is Smooth- a men’s magazine, but couldn’t they have done better than this? Yes Trina is beautiful, but since this is their “Black History” issue, couldn’t they have say, put Barack Obama on the cover? I mean he is featured inside the magazine anyway- so why not get brothas minds off the booty and put it on the ballot instead. Black men now more than ever need to be politically savvy and believe it or not, magazines like Smooth and KING can help bring political awareness to brothas who may ordinarily not pay attention to such things. Booty and bling. Booty and bling. It seems that is all the owners of magazines aimed at Black men want them to think about. I wonder why that is?

A Whole Lotta Rihanna

posted by Sista on February 6, 2008

Excuse my poor language skills this morning but the title just seem to fit this post so well (lol). As many of you already know, Rihanna has been in New York City taking in Fashion Week. While here she has of course been front and center at most of the exclusive collections, but in between taking in the shows and launching her new umbrella line at Macys, the sista has also been busy taking in the sites and sounds of the city. And so above and below you can find pics from all the events Rihanna has participated in this week and several of these pics I believe are exclusive or semi-exclusive to this blog- for now at least.

Janet Jackson Poses For JC Penny Catalog

posted by Sista on February 6, 2008

Ok, no she didn’t. But you have to admit these images do look like they came straight out of a Sears or JC Penny catalog? Do they still send those out? These images are actually from this week’s edition of Parade Magazine, which I believe is included in many Sunday papers across the country. Janet graces the cover and also did an exclusive shoot for the mag which you can see above and on the next page. Btw, don’t forget to check out PAGE 2 of this post which includes a beautifully stunning photo of Janet’s cover shot for her new single “Rock With U”.

Is Keyshia’s Darker Do A Don’t?

posted by Sista on February 6, 2008

Singer Keyshia Cole was spotted over the weekend performing at the NFL PLAYERS Party prior to Super Bowl XLII. The singer performed wearing a black chicken feathered vest (lol, I couldn’t hold that in) and a noticeably darker do. I can’t decide whether I really like this new look or not as the quality and angle of the picture is not so good. My first impression however was a thumbs down. Keyshia, like Mary and Beyonce before her, has worn her hair light brown for so long that I just cannot imagine them without it. Mary I believe can and has pulled off black hair in the past. Keyshia and Beyonce however are not having the same luck. But that’s just my opinion. What do you guys think? Does Keyshia’s new do get a thumbs up or thumbs down?

Mary J. Cancels Grammy Performance

posted by Sista on February 5, 2008

As hard as it is to believe, singer Mary J. Blige, according to BV Newswire, has canceled her Grammy performance, which included a duet with Aretha Franklin, to instead focus on other live performances that will help promote her new single, “Hurt Again”. Mary’s rep confirmed that the singer will instead be performing a slew of other television shows that include Rachel Ray, Jimmy Kimmel Live and two appearances on ABC’s One Life To Live.
And to cap off the month, ‘VH1 Storytellers: Mary J. Blige’ will premiere Feb. 25 a 8 p.m. ET/PT. Taped in front of a live studio audience at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom last month, the hour long show will feature Blige performing songs from ‘Growing Pains’ in addition to past hits. Following in the ‘Storytellers’ format, viewers will get a unique opportunity to hear the inspiration and stories behind each song. No word on a tour yet, but something tells me that she – as one of the most engaging live performers of her generation – will have something jumping off in the very near future.

Brandy’s Mom Sues The Kardashian Family

posted by Sista on February 5, 2008

Sonja Norwood, mother of R n’ B singer Brandy, is suing reality television family the Kardashian’s, claiming that they ran up more than $120,000 worth of expenses on her credit card when Kim Karadashian was employed as Brandy’s stylist back in 2004. According to documents obtained by TMZ.com, Ms Norwood alleges that Kim “was authorized to make one (and only one) purchase on behalf of the Plaintiff, using Plaintiff’s American Express credit card. Neither Kim nor any of the other Defendants were ever authorized to make any further purchases on, or charges to, Plaintiff’s credit card.” The lawsuit claims that Kim disclosed the details of her credit card to other members of her family, and that “each of them, have improperly, and without any permission or authority whatsoever, made charges to Plaintiff’s credit card, claiming to be employed by Brandy or Plaintiff in one capacity or another.”
