E News Online is reporting that Dreamgirls actress Anika Noni Rose has landed one of the most coveted roles among today’s leading Black actresses and singers. Anika will voice the 19 year old heroine in Mickey Mouse studio’s upcoming animated musical feature, The Frog Princess . She will be the first Black Princess in Disney’s long line of blockbuster princesses. Anika, 34, costarred alongside Jennifer Hudson and Beyoncé as the third Dream in last year’s big hit, Dreamgirls. Before that, she won a Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical for her role in Caroline, or Change. As reported, Hudson and Alicia Keys also auditioned for the role. A source now tells E others who tried out for the role include model and talk show host Tyra Banks.
Singer Rihanna has shot the video for her new single Umbrella and you can see an image from the shoot to your left. The video was apparently shot last week in Los Angeles and from the look of things you can expect her record label to pull out all the strings to insure that this mediocre song is a hit. I checked Billboard’s top 50 singles chart and so far there is no sign of Umbrella but you can expect that to change once the video is released and put into heavy rotation on MTV, BET and VH-1. No word yet who the director was but I admit, Rihanna looks wonderful and the video looks like it may be interesting.

Sistas and tattoos- where do I start? Much like 10 inch nails and purple hair- tattoos are the newest thing sistas have decided to overdo. I swear we as a people are like peacocks- we like to be seen.We are flashy and don’t get me wrong this can sometimes be a good thing. However when overdone we often end up looking like fools and such is the case with sistas and their multiple tattoos.
I remember back in the day when all women had the same tattoo- a delicate little rose on the ankle. That was back when ladies wanted to be a little edgy, a little sexy, but still feminine. Well the times sure are a changin’- but for sista’s mostly. Black women can now be seen sportin’ tattoos on their breasts, thighs, arms, and even their necks. What kind of woman gets a tattoo on her neck?

Future Bratz Doll actress Meagan Good was spotted last night at the Athletes for Charity 2007 Initiative hosted by fellow thespian Gabrielle Union, Jay Galvin and Michael Strahan. As always Meagan was a vision of loveliness, as was Gabrielle Union. Also in attendance was actress Essence Atkins who starred with Meagan and Gabby in the 2003 romantic comedy “Deliver Us From Eva”.

Singer, actress, dancer and all around Diva Janet Jackson is on the cover of the spring 2007 issue of the new UK fashion and music magazine Sly & Chic. We first reported last year that Janet would be the mags first covergirl and the issue is now on stands- so do go out and pick that up if you are a UK fan. More Janet goodness is soon to follow as Tyler Perry posted a message via his website stating that his new movie “Why Did I Get Married” will most likely be released this year rather than the Spring of 2008 as first reported.
I thought Beyonce was still in Japan on tour but it appears the sista took some time off to fly back home and have a girls night out with her fellow BFFs Tyra Banks, , Kimora Lee Simmons and Jessica White. Of course Jay was there too but with such beauty taking up the front row of last night’s Knicks vs. Nets game, I doubt anyone noticed him. Check out the sistas having the time of their lives below, and notice how they seem to be doing everything but watching the game. They are talking, laughing, checking out each others hair, clothes and nails. Kimora is even giving Bey and Tyra a spritz of her new perfume. I guess that’s just what happens when you take a group of fashion divas out for a boring night of basketball. Sistas gotta find a way to pass the time somehow.

Poor Beyonce. First the sista is sued by British singer Des’ree for copyright infringement and then the poor girl is photographed out in public wearing the ugliest orange lipstick known to man. Now I can’t help but wonder if that isn’t some KLS lipstick Kimora passed on to Beyonce after the Knicks game a few nights ago. She was seen spritzing Bey so whose to say she didn’t slide our sista some of her cheap orange and pink make-up that just doesn’t look good on Black girl skin. And judging from Beyonce’s poor choice in make-up these days, maybe someone should hip her to Iman Cosmetics. Now that is a line of make-up you can’t go wrong with.
