Thanks to the addition of Jill Scott, when “The Voice” returns to the air on February 24th, it will do so with a much needed injection of soul.
According to published reports, Jilly from Philly will be Team Usher, joining the R&B crooner to help groom tomorrow’s generation of singers.
In an interview with ExtraTV, Usher said he personally asked Jill to join the show as a guest judge, saying her skills as a singer, songwriter, musician and actress, make her his “secret weapon” for the upcoming season. read more » » » »
Ooops, my bad. Jill Scott’s Twerking Tweet Gets Her In Trouble
Oh Twitter. Thou art a heartless bitch.
R&B singer Jill Scott inadvertently walked into a schit storm of trouble when she sent out this tweet. “Twerking was invented when some woman of African descent ran out of toilet paper. There’s plenty now. Kmart, 7-eleven, target… good prices 2.”
I got the joke. Others, particularly women of African descent, did not and quickly let Jill know their unhappiness.
Below is a sampling of the comments PG enough for me to post.
Jill quickly got wind of the furor and set about cleaning up the mess, tweeting “Relax. It’s a joke. Visuals darling. Visuals.”
When that wasn’t enough, Jill came back with a somewhat more humble apology. “O K For the slow and sensitive- African women since b4 Venus Hottentot have been know 4 the sizable derrière. It was a visual JOKE. Chill.”
Jill closed out the convo on a positive note, saying “Love the passion. Misguided, confused and ultra sensitive but good. The point- we’ve taken something private & made it über public. Pull up.”
It’s been a minute but Jill Scott is finally back with a new video from her “Light of the Sun” album. The ‘Blessed’ songstress is back with the visual of the same name, which wouldn’t you know it- she directed herself.
Check it out below and let us know what you think.
Singer Jill Scott puts her stellar acting chops to good use in the emotionally charged video for her single “Hear My Call.”
The video is presently available for free on Itunes from now until the 29th, so don’t forget to download your copy.
“Hear My Call” is the fourth single to be released from Jill’s #1 album “Light of the Sun”. To see the Miss Scott performing her new tracks live you can check her out on her “Block Party Tour,” which doesn’t wrap until late November.
Jill Scott Covers Billboard, Responds to 50 Cent Comments
With Jill Scott’s album set to debut at the top of charts next week, Billboard magazine has seen fit to feature the singer/actress on their cover. I can’t tell you whether Jill has ever been on the cover before; but what I can tell you, is that she looks damn good on this one. Billboard isn’t really known for their covers like say RollingStone is, but they definitely knocked this one outta the ballpark. Jill looks A-MA-ZING.
And in another bit of Jilly from Philly news, earlier this week 50 Cent made a bit of an ass of himself when he tweeted something to effect of ‘Jill looking good for a big girl.’ Lots of ppl took offense, including our own LJ Knight who wrote an article about it.
Well, in case ppl are wondering what Jill thinks- she responded today via Twitter. Check out what she had to say below.
“Light of the Sun,” Jill’s fourth album overall and her first with Warner Brothers Records, is on track to sell between 125-135k in its first week of release.
‘Light’ is Jill’s first solo venture since 2007’s “The Real Thing: Words and Sounds Vol. 3.” Her previous high was the #3 ranking for 2004’s Beautifully Human: Words and Sounds Vol. 2. Jill has since gone on to star in two movies for Tyler Perry and had the lead role in HBO’s original series The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency.
