Singer Teyana Taylor returns with a new mixtape for loyal fans.
Despite her GOOD Music debut VII being highly slept on, Teyana persevered and is back with an even more impressive offering: the five-track EP The Cassette Tape 1994.
Teyana thankfully keeps things simple on her latest release, shunning rap collaborations, and instead focusing on delivering quality R&B music, with an ode to 90s groups like SWV and En Vogue.
According to a recent interview she did with Vibe magazine, singer Teyana Taylor may be on the verge of signing with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D record label. Teyana released her first single “Google Me” back in 2007 and was originally signed to Pharell’s Star Trak label. However, no official album was ever released and the singer’s once promising career was quickly brought to a halt.
In the years since “GM” Teyana has become more of a socialite and fashionista, best known for her sense of style and close ties to Chris Brown, rather than for her music. Collaboration on Kanye’s “Dark Fantasy” album last year, however, have since put the focus back on Teyana’s musical abilities.
“Something big just happened to me,” Teyana tells VIBE from the Mercer Hotel in New York City. “It was a big meeting.”
She continues: “I’m in a good situation, good songs, with some good people… good dudes… capital G-O-O-D.”
And while Taylor wouldn’t confirm that she officially signed with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D Music imprint, the proof is in the pudding.
“Tonight is probably the best night. To get to vibe with amazing people—people that you look up to and for them to want your opinion and input, I think is really dope. Tonight is a very, very, very very amazing night for me,” she continues. “They might not understand it but they definitely going to respect it.”
VIBE has now confirmed that Teyana is currently laying vocals for Jay and Kanye West’s first collaborative project, Watch The Throne.
