Intimate apparel line Nubian Skin is redefining the fashion industry’s idea of what nude looks like.
If you’ve ever shopped for nude lingerie, clothing or heels, then you know that for far too long the definition of nude has essentially meant beige. However, with the success of recently expanded collections like Christian Louboutin’s The Shades, folks in the fashion world are finally expanding their lines to accommodate women whose skins tones are more ebony than ivory.
And while some brands are simply jumping on the bandwagon, Nubian Skin was conceived from the beginning to give women with deeper skin tones options when it comes to buying lingerie that matches their naturally sun-kissed complexions.
Ade Hassan, founder of Nubian Skin, says the line was born out of frustration with other company’s available colors, an issue BuzzFeed recently highlighted in a video here.
Since hitting the market in October 2014, Nubian Skin has expanded their colors and their clientele, citing Brandy, Queen Latifah, Beyonce, Rihanna, Kerry Washington and Nicole Beharie as some of their biggest supporters.
