Reagan Gomez Preston Covers KING… Again

In 2007 I wrote…

I know many of you didn’t know Reagan still existed seeing as how she only seems to make the news when she poses for KING Magazine every few years…

Well the sista is back on the cover… but like all KING girls, Reagan doesn’t just take her clothes off- she has deep philosophical thoughts she wants to share with us as well (lol).

Speaking about the upcoming election…

Bigger Than Barack

Since this is the “Election Issue,” I wanted to do more than take pretty pictures. Like many, I’m extremely excited about this race. Senator Barack Obama is the American Dream; yet, two years ago, most of us had no idea who this cat was. Now he’s going to be our next president—yeah, I said it!

This presidential race has me thinking about the generational gap that exists between old and young. There are Jesse Jackson’s remarks; Bob Johnson; and Rev. Wright’s apparent attempt to sabotage Barack’s campaign. What angers us young people is the blatant refusal by some older blacks to acknowledge that we’re going through our own struggle. No, we’ve never seen WHITES ONLY signs, or a black man lynched, or gone to a segregated school. But we have seen young, unarmed black men murdered time and time again by the police. And our schools are just as underfunded and segregated as they were 60 years ago.

It seems as if some black politicians don’t really acknowledge us unless there’s a camera around. We can shut the country down and march for the Jena Six, even get Don Imus fired, yet we can’t do anything about the staggering numbers of black men in prison, our outrageously underfunded schools, the HIV epidemic among black women or the number of absent fathers? It’s not their job to actually fix our community’s problems—only to defend us when someone of another race wrongs us.

Barack’s not the typical politician, and that’s the beauty of it. Like a lot of us, he came from a single-parent home and even loved that stinky green. We love and appreciate all you’ve done, older politicians. But it’s a new day. Barack Obama represents change, not just for the country but also for young people. A new civil-rights movement is on the rise—no marching, but empowering and educating us young people so that we can add our own chapter to our already long and amazing history. —Reagan Gomez

    What does she do?

  2. Amber,I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to GEICO

    LOL

  3. this is just sad. stephanie, lol.

  4. For some reason, I don’t too much care for her. Can’t pinpoint when and why but…

Despite that, I can appreciate her speaking on real issues and stating how though things have changed from the older generations days, our kids/younger ones still have real life issues to deal w/ like racism, which isn’t as in your face these days but more on the sly/hidden side (which is worst to me), crime (also more blatant and advanced) and a lack of leadership.

I wondered, “Why KING?” but now I understand that Reagan, since she’s not doing anything major, Sister 2 Sister isn’t going to interview her and since she had something to say, needing her voice to be heard and an invite from KING mag…. why not, right? We all want to be heard sometimes (I guess the “feel good” comes with being seen too) :|

  5. I think this shoot could have been better. Seeing as how this is the political issue and the title says “All American Girl”, I would have styled her in maybe a sexy American flag type outfit. Maybe photographed her sexily posing in a “Barack The Vote” t-shirt or something. I could have totally done a better job than they did with this cover.

  6. @Stephanie: I agree. I think they could have made this a little more appropriate. I don’t know what this King magazine is, but, I don’t understand why does every cover have to be like that. She’s a beautiful lady but every picture does not have to be like that.

  7. Dark Sista Is a Pisces

    who is she?

  8. She starred as Zahara (or something like that) in the the television show Parenthood.

  9. If that girl is who I think she is (daughter from Parenthood…I think) than she looks relatively busted (tired, or both). Her body is rockin’ though.

Stephanie, what’s up with the post I made to the Gucci article the other day? It was subsequently deleted.

  10. Dark Sista Is a Pisces

oh teh one in ti’ s whatever you like video?

  11. Stephanie, what’s up with the post I made to the Gucci article the other day? It was subsequently deleted.

I knew it. I could have sworn the Gucci post had about 15 comments on Saturday but when I came back it had 8.

I didn’t delete any posts and neither did Fashionista101. Honestly, I don’t know what happened. I only delete spam comments. I can’t imagine what happened to those comments but I do apologize.

  12. I appreciate the words she had to say because it is the truth. I guess this is a way for her to get some exposure cause she is not getting it from anywhere else. She is also in T.I.’s new video “Whatever You Like”.

Stephanie: I agree that this would have worked better if she was in an Obama shirt, but you know Obama would have caught some heat on that. lol

  13. Couldn’t KING magazine have classed it up a bit? It could’ve still been sexy. Am I the only who has a hard time taking someone’s views serious when they are dressed like that?

  14. Um…what is “stinky green”?

  15. @ Torya

You’re right. Sexing up a political T-shirt would create controversy and no, Anon27, you’re not the only one who’s having a hard time taking her seriously considering how she’s dressed. I hate to admit it since it’s unfair to her. It’s wrong to dismiss someone (especially if they make valid points) simply because of their style of dress but truth is, it’s hard not too. Also, Angela, “stinky green” is weed. She kind of turned me off when she mentioned that.

  16. I agree it is hard to take her seriously when her body parts are falling out of her (non-existent) clothes. She is a beautiful young woman, though. She did have some valid points about the state of the black community. It is a new day, but we are clearly still battling some ag old problems (schools, prisons, unemployment, etc). Seems like she is educated and has a lot to say. It is too bad that these young, beautiful stars can’t find a better outlet than showing off their ***(ets) on King magazine.

  17. I like Regan, but wish she wouldn’t keep selling herself short with King. Anywho, she looks fab considering she and hubby recently had a baby.

  18. I LIKE HER POINT SHES A VERY SMART GIRL .BUT….. THEY SHOULD HAVE DID THAT COVER BETTER

  19. Great body. I’d kill for her airbrushed abs. But what’s up with the lion’s mane that is her hair? And is this where black actresses’ careers ‘go’ when they die? To the cover of Kang magazine? Sorry………..this is….just….. Great body. I’d kill for her airbrushed abs….wait, I already said that. LOL

  20. @angela

stinky green is marijuana (yes he did smoke it look how dark them lips is, lol)

anyway, i mean KING is a men’s magazine so you can pretty put out of your mind them having a classy cover where a women barely reveals any skin. that’s just not what the magazine is about. it cater’s to men..sports, tv, cars, money and beautiful women. these are usually the only thing men worry about anyway (am i wrong?) so why does it have to be any other way? we have essence, sister2sister, ebony, cosmo, glamour…all these magazines cater to us to so i thinks its only fair they have theirs too.

on reagan, regardless of what magazine she did it in, she seemed very sincere in her interview, and basically said all the things that young people feel as far as the election and what a terrible state this “great nation” of our’s is in. I think she was pretty on point

  21. I remember she was on that show with Robert Townsend and in a few music videos. I don’t like her with Blonde hair at all. I hope she finds some good roles, she is a beautiful girl but the only work she seems to get lately is on magazines. Ok……………?

  22. WOW…I’m impressed with her words on the upcoming election. She’s beautiful, talented and intelligent. A true tripple threat.

Bill O’Racist is probably going to have something to say about this artical. I’m sure he subscribes to King.

  23. Reagan’s comments concerning the election were very insightful and she readily admitted that she was unaware of Senator Obama 2 years ago and now she’s excited about his candidacy. She was very open in her views concerning the generational divide and presented her perspective of the disappointment with the elders from the civil rights generation. She didn’t state a vague, unintelligent excuse but presented a stimulating rationale that her generation and the civil rights generation experiences are not the same. We should commend her for having an outlook on the elections and the generational divide of Blacks.

Why do black women have a “problem” when a sister pose provocatively on a men’s magazine? She’s an actress and there are men in the industry that view these magazines seeking the next “hot” starlet (whether is for long term career gain or 15 minutes of fame). We are not all the same and sisters need to discontinue the hypocritical scrutinizing of other sisters that choose to display their sexuality. White girls have no problem exhibiting their sexuality and we’re denounced by everyone when we simply embrace sensuality or our sexuality. We are a diverse group of people and the route that each of us selects to follow is unique.

  24. preach sepiastar!!

  25. She speaks the truth…except for the weed part, she could have left that out it wasn’t really necessary…

  26. Dark Sista Is a Pisces

Yeah you’ re right stephani she looks a little dumb-ish and plain the whould have played with the “all american girl” theme a little harder :)

  27. Stephanie: thanks for the response:) I know technical issues happen from time to time; I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t something I said.

  28. @ Sepiastar

I swear the “black women” vs. “black women” dialogue has got to stop. You find such behavior throughout all races.

  29. @Unaltered Beauty

Yes, we can stop the dialogue once we realize that we do it incessantly. Yes, other races face criticism from each other but it’s ironic, they can STILL support each other. Sarah Palin has demonstrated she lacks the ability to express basic knowledge of domestic and international relations. Her family situation is not ideal by some people standards but white women are STILL attending her rallies in large numbers and supporting her candidacy. Would sisters do the same if this was another sister in this situation or would we publicly demean and degrade her and her family? You already KNOW the answer. Many of us went ballistic because Erykah Badu is unmarried and having her third child and her children will all have different fathers. Our criticism turn into complete verbal attacks. The young ladies from Flavor of Love are always being categorized as “whores” and “gold-diggers” looking for 15 minutes of fame. Yet, what’s the difference between them and Kim Kardishian, Paris Hilton, and the ladies with Hugh Hefner? NOTHING – and I don’t hear the white community continuously classifying them as “whores, gold-diggers, etc”.

It’s simple – stop the immense judging of everyone that does not conform to this delusional standard of what we expect Black women to represent.

  30. hmmm ok.

  31. callmewhatever81

Sepiastar, I agree with you to a certain extent except have you ever gone to white blogs? Kim and especially Paris are CONSTANTLY being called whores by white girls same with britney, lindsey and all those white girls. I dont think its a black female problem, I think its a female problem period. Women hate other women, women of all races……period. If a woman gets raped, other women will be the main ones finding some reason why she deserved it or that she is lying. Men in conversations with other men constantly refer to women as hoes or b’s regardless if they are or not but yet women do not constantly refer to every man as a negative term (cant even think of one for a man, thats how sexist we are against other women, I cant even think of a name we call men thats derogatory but so many we call eachother) but yet we call other women b’s and hoes just like the men do.

  32. UnalteredBeauty

Sorry Sepiastar. I appreciate the response and all but I just can’t buy your argument. What can best be described as characteristic of basic human behavior you’re trying to racialize.

  33. OK, I googled this Gomez and according to a wiki page she married at 19 and just had her first child in 2007. This source also says she has her own production company and keeps busy behind the scenes directing episodes of several sitcoms.

  34. She’s had children? Now I ‘really’ want those airbrushed abs. :bag:

  35. Sorry, not all black people are voting obama.

  36. I like the article. Go Raven way to represent your age group. If this happens to be the place to so her voice can be heard, then so be it. She is wise enough to know that people will buy this mag and look for her pictures, so she expressed herself very intelligently.

EVERYONE PLEASE WATCHT THE DEBATE THIS EVENING!!!!!

I think it will give us something to talk about for the years to come.
    I’m just saying,,,,,, :brownsista:
