Brandy to Resprise Roxie Hart Role
With her BET comedy Zoe Ever After officially canceled and her stint on this season’s My Kitchen Rules about to come to an end, singer and actress Brandy is heading back to Broadway to reprise a familiar role. According to published reports, the Vocal Bible will once again take on the role of Roxie Hart in the Kennedy Center’s upcoming production of Chicago.
This will mark Brandy’s third time heading back to The Great White Way to take on the iconic role of Roxie, having done so first in 2015 and again in 2016. “I wanna be Roxie forever,” Brandy recently told NPR. “Every time I get a chance to play her, whether it be on Broadway, or at the Pantages in Los Angeles, I never can get enough. This character has changed my life.”
Featuring music by Fred Ebb and John Kander, Chicago tells the story of nightclub singer Roxie Hart, a showgirl who murders her lover after he threatens to leave her. Desperate to avoid a lengthy jail sentence, she dupes the public by hiring a slick lawyer to transform her crime into a barrage of sensational headlines.
The Kennedy Center’s production of Chicago kicked off tonight and will run until April 16th. Brandy is slated to play 12 shows before resuming her own tour at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn on May 12th.
