Rihanna is covering the latest issue of GQ Magazine (January 2010) and is doing so the way she has done the majority of her photo shoots this era- with very little clothing on.
I have to admit- the singer who once amazed me with her incredible fashion sense and style- is now boring me to death and I finally figured out why.
Rihanna is giving me- and the public- too much. Sometimes less is more and some things should either be saved or not shared at all. The singer’s once mighty fashion style in my opinion has all but vanished and has now been replaced with nothing but flesh. Rather than getting our attention via a style rivaled by absolutely no one, Rihanna is now trying to get our attention by being overly sexual and borderline vulgar. Rihanna has always been sexy- but vulgar- never.
I don’t know if the singer is feeling the heat of 3 failed singles or if she thinks this is simply a form of progression. Whatever the case- I have seen this before and now I am bored….

1. Plenty of females go topless or near-nude for a GQ cover. At the very least, Rihanna should be getting props for being a black woman on the cover. When was the last time you saw a sista on GQ that wasn’t Halle?

2. This interview was on deck long before the singles started dropping. Anybody who knows anything about magazines knows that an artist just can’t call up a writer, ask for a cover story and hope for a boost in sales as a result. Mag covers are planned MONTHS in advance, so her team probably organized this before the CD even dropped.
3. Agreed with every other poster that if this were any other artist going topless (how many times have we seen Janet do this same kind of pose over the years?) then they wouldn’t be getting the same kind of criticism.
4. Once again, a huge emphasis on Billboard chart positions. Again, why does this matter? I can count on one hand the number of sistas on the Hot 100 right now. Doesn’t critical acclaim mean anything, or is it all about whether a single makes it to #1? If it’s that relevant, then I really wish you’d include chart numbers for EVERY singer you mention on here, but when you don’t there is a clear bias.

Overseas she is doing better but all 3 of her singles are falling down the charts in the United States and Hard is already released to Itunes and that hasn’t helped its chart position as of yet.
