Rihanna Debuts Russian Roulette Video

Here is the latest video offering from Rihanna’s upcoming “Rated R” album. “Russian Roulette” is the first single off of the singer’s album and a bonafide hit. The single skyrocketed into the #9 position on this week’s Billboard Hot 100 chart and made the singer the second most successful singles artist this decade.

  2. well that must be nice to be known as the SINGLES queen….kudos to her for the success…

wont comment on th vid or the attempts to act..like micheal k said, this either makes you want to pull holy water out or grab a glass of whisky..i will go for the whiskey..maybe it will wake me up a little or get me drunk to be able to finish the rest of the vid..

  3. WOW! Rih’s new video is awesome… Best mini movie I have seen 10/10 this critic gives it 2 thumbs up! You go Girl!!!!!

    Keep up the good work….

    So compelling, beautiful and artistic!

    Exactly!!!

  5. it left me feeling highly disturbed…therefore IT WAS AWSOME AND WORKED…

    *praying for her though*

  6. Lovely.
    Well done.

She doesn’t need a circus atmosphere to communicate the thoughts behind the song.

    Very intriguing.

    Loving this girl!!!

  7. You could’ve acknowledged Bey because she has the most top 10 singles this decade (im jus sayin)
But what p*sses me off is I never get when a video has been SCHEDULED to debut on a certain date and when it does finally debut the record company takes it down???!!! So know I gotta search youtube or wherever else for it.

  8. the video is a bit too much + the song’s lyrics –> it just doesn’t do it for me…
BUT, this video is excellently put together – kudos to the director, producer, editor, whoever…

  9. @#’s Why would she acknowledge Beyonce in a Rhianna posting. Bey is not everything to everybody. Whether you can believe it or not everyone does not like her. She is just okay to a lot of people. She is boring and more and more people are saying that. She has been doing the same routine for almost a decade.

  10. Not too keen on the song, but she looks great, the video is A+ and I wish her well this time around.

  11. Rihanna will pass Beyonce up because she will be releasing more singles from this album.

Rihanna’s track record speaks for itself.

Rihanna and Beyonce are both tied with most #1’s for female artist this decade. Rihanna may just very well inch her out.

  12. Love love LOVE the video! I was able to see the video before it was pulled and all i can say is WOW!!!! I was sitting on the edge of my seat like I was watching some block bluster movie and the most pivatol part was about to happen. You know it’s coming but you can’t turn away because you are afraid you are going to miss something. She did good with this video and I am sure it will get people to talking.

I literally screamed out loud when the male lead in the video spun the chamber on the gun thus beginning the actual game of Russian Roulette. The fear and uncertianty was shown and it made the scene all the more haunting. I think my favorite scenes of the video is when she is in the gas chamber and damn near daring them to release the gases on her. The car scene and water scenes spoke volumes as well.

The entire video was a metaphor and showed the various test she was put through and yet she survived them all. I think I screamed again at the end of the video when the shot rang out and Rihanna was the one who won the game. No matter what she was faced with she emerged as the victor and I loved it!

Can’t wait for Rihanna and her era of Rated R. I think with the video and songs on the cd we will see growth and a different kind of Rihanna and that is a good thing. The true mark of a good artist is being able to grow and show that growth in your music, videos, and most importantly self.

  13. That was beautiful , she still is one of the worst “artist” of this generation but this is hands down the best video i’ve seen in about 5 years 🙂

  14. @BEE- No $hit that everyone doesn’t like Bey that’s VERY obvious but just because you dont like someone doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t get the respect they deserve. The routine must be working for her 10 years later huh?

Getting to the post, I think she did this song/video concept to let people know that she wont let this situation overpower her and bring her down she will be victorious and I wish her much success.

  15. 17150918 You simple self had to come Throw some shit on The girl’s game You are sad as all hell Get it together

  16. @SSOF- What are you talking about?… I wasn’t taking anything away from Rihanna I’m a fan and I understand her when others dont. All I said is they could’ve at least said who had the honor of being above Rihanna as far as having more successful records. So how am I throwing ____ on her game?

  17. I Like it, I didn’t know how they would translate the song to a video but it worked. I’m diggin it !

  18. she had 2 dredge up the hole chris brown ish 2 get the single 2 climb.nt luvin tht or the song matter fact.

heard the album n aint hot.my personal op

  19. It kills me how folks steady saying she using the interview and the Chris Brown situation to get record sales…. Since February 8th Rihanna has done one (1) damn in depth interview about what happened. In subsequent interviews that followed the 20/20 segment she has barely mentioned the incident or him. Seeing that she had a new cd coming out she had to speak about it eventually… she did it once and moved the hell on.

Whereas Chris as much as I love him did six interviews…. yes six damn interviews where he’s talked about February 8th, Rihanna, his feelings, how he’s changing, so on and so forth. So who’s using the incident?

  20. Im sorry but how is this song and video HELPING any teenagers out there???

I thought she said she wanted to be a role model for the kids… WTF was that video about?

  21. @1715098

    HOW FREAKIN PATHETIC AND RIDICULOUS!!!!!

SHE DID NOT HAVE TO ACKNOWLEDGE BEYAWNSAY AT ALL

    THIS IS RIHANNA’S GLORY GTFOH!!!!!

THERE IS FURTHER PROOF BEYAWNSAY IS AWASH!!!!!! NOBODY CARES NOR DO THEY REMEMBER!!!!!

SHE IS NOW USING GAGA FOR RELEVANCY.

btw, Oprah has given Rihanna the stamp of approval. NOTHING ELSE MATTERS> LMFAOOOOOO

  22. Now we are going to see Beyonce come out and try to be dark. This is just getting crazy. These two hacks are at the top of the pop game right now. This just shows you why the music industry is in the state that it’s in.

@Number’s you don’t invoke someone else’s name in an article when the article has nothing to do with them. And naturaly if you put a single out a week your bound to have some of them will go to top ten.

  23. Normally I’d be all for celeb doing there on thing in this crazy media filled world. I’ve never been a huge Rihanna fan because I never related to her music but this year I thought she was really doing her thing style wise so I came around. BUT I can’t support this video and the message it’s sending to today’s youth. It’s completely inappropriate not only are they playing with guns they are also glorifying guns in the video. Yes we should monitor what are children are watching but we can’t protect them 24/7 they will see this mess. I’m all for art actually I’m an artist myself but who are watching mtv/ vh1 & BET? Our children… I’m very sadden to see the day tht people support a video w/ such balatant disregaurd to values. I just think these celebs can do better when the majority of their fan base are impressionable children. Wake up people we have to do better…

  24. Stylishearth: Even i don’t like rihanna but i get the metaphor behind the video don’t tell me that you’ve been watching simple videos so much that when one is actually deep you can’t figure it out? It’s about RELATIONSHIPS you see we all go trough it Arguments, Fights,Deceit, But trough out all of it, We as women ARE SURVIVORS we still get up and dare the next man to hurt us because we will still rise from it,Now i understand that lately all we’ve seen is buttocks and vajeyna Lips but come on let’s appreciate a good video (for a whack ass song) when we get one 🙂

  25. @Bee- ino right- They in competition who can be the most dark and naked. im still waiting 4 Rhi’s alterego name- Deranged diva? naw, i don’t like that one, but Rhi will prob do a better job naming her other half. pure comedy.

  26. It’s funny. Beyonce an rihanna are CONSTANTLY getting compared. For what? Their in Two different fields. Rihanna is pop bey is R&B. Nothig wrong with that. No matter what website i’m on SOME HOW eachothers names go on eachothers post.

    Sad.

  27. just to update your wrong facts brown suga…rihanna has been surpassed by lady gaga, mj, and 2 more other artists..her record has already been broken for digital sales…she will never catch up no matter how much her stans want to support this garbage..she knocked herself of her so called pedestal thinking she is the new madonann..rihanna will never get her success of gggb again in her life…but y’all can carry on!!

  28. She has been surpassed for digital sales not for being the second most successful singles artist of the decade.

  29. Honestly I don’t call this entertainment. Sure, I admit I couldn’t look away and I was impressed how they managed to form such a story out of this song, but come on, I agree with Stylishearth most that this is just NOT appropriate for both our youth and even ourselves as adults. Sure, I see that there is perhaps a deeper meaning that can be linked to the troubles in relationships like others stated, but seriously, we should be careful that we don’t tolerate such destructive and poor quality music just because the beat is infectious or “tight”. Again, this isn’t entertaining. This is just really sad music that’s accepted as okay ’cause the video and instrumentals are supposedly cool. Whatever…

  30. Well said @ Kourtney. I can’t call this entertainment either jus because she has fierce shoes and a couple of wardrobe changes. The fact is people and mainly Black people are so easily influenced and brainwashed to accept this. It’s very sad.

    @Some stranger on a forum
I never said I didn’t get the metaphorical meaning behind the video, as an artist & a woman I get it but will the impressionable teenagers get it? will the little girls and boys get it? SMH All I’m saying is it’s sad the people will accept this as “the best video in 5 years”.

Again people please wake up & smell the roses…

  31. @WTF, and LuLu

    LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOO

It’s amazin that folks of color wanna see Gaga overtake Rihanna.

Damn is the hate and jealous that deep?

Rihanna WAS THE DIGITAL QUEEN IN 2008. NO ONE CAN TAKE THAT HONOR AWAY FROM HER. THIS IS A NEW YEAR 2009

    SHE JUST RELEASED NEW MUSIC

    HOWEVER
    DISTURBIA
    UMBRELLA

ARE STILL SELLING ON ITUNES!!! LONG AFTER 2007!!!

GAGA IS NEW TO THE GAME AND I WISH HER WELL, BUT I’M SORRY

JUST BECAUSE BOREYAWNSAY IS PLAYED OUT I WILL NEVER ROOT FOR GAGA TO STEAL RIHANNA’S SHINE

BECAUSE RIHANNA IS DOING HER THING AND GAGA IS IN HER LANE DOING HER THING.

THERE IS NO COMPETITION EXCEPT FOR WHAT WE CREATE IN OUR MINDS.

    RIHANNA’S REIGN WON’T LET UP!

  32. You know what it was quite wrong of me to say anything about beyonce in someone else’s post (even though I said NOTHING bad)but if it was Jhud, Chrisette, or Alicia there would be no problem with them being acknowleged. But yea I was truly wrong.

  33. I am with you Kourtney and Styliahearth…I’m over pop stars doing and saying whatever they want to do or say for the sake if being different. I think it’s reckless and irresponsible to, in one instances, talk about being a role model and uplift young girls out of such a dark concept as domestic violence and then turn around and make such a dark video that seemingly glorifies something like playing with a gun or suicide. The imagery, the words…”I’m terrified but I’m not leaving, knowing I must pass this test, so just pull the trigger…” all convey the notion of violence…the kids that love her will not see it the way adults do! :/ And the ones who don’t get that must not have children. Kids and even young adults are soooooooo impressionable and have a high chance of falling into the “hole” of pop culture which at this point, I don’t think it’s good for any.

  34. O.k seriously… can anybody imagine their little daughters and nieces singing along to this song???

    Seriously???

  35. For this to be a site about uplifting “Brown Sistas” some of you guys sure are pathetic as hell, the name calling seriously????

  36. SMH The Beyonce vs. Rihanna comparisons need to stop. There is enough room for the two of them to shine.

Also if Beyonce is so irrelevant and these two are enemies as so many claim, why did Rihanna just recently attend Beyonce’s concert in London?

  37. I love ther video difffffferent. As far music these day there alot of song out here that i would not like my daugther to here either. But these day radio be playing all type of music i be like wtf. Rhi-Rhi is doing the damn thing.

  38. The video makes absolutely no sense at all and I could care less about anyone other than dude in the video… Can’t remember his name but he was in Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants 2 as the nude model…. Damn he’s hot as shit and so fine… I love his eyes and his smile… I’ll watch this meaningless depressing video all day long just to look at him.
