Rihanna & Nicki Make History

Pop singer Rihanna and Hip-Pop diva Nicki Minaj are both making a bit of You Tube History today. According to Billboard, Rihanna has dethroned fellow pop icon Lady Gaga to take the title of most viewed artist, clocking in over 2 billion hits for her various videos. Among her most watched visuals are “What’s My Name” (230 million views), “We Found Love” (115 million views) and “Rude Boy,” “California King Bed” and “Man Down,” which have a combined total of 420 million views.

As always Rihanna took to Twitter when she heard the news, tweeting her love for the Rihanna Navy that holds her down— and alerting them to her upcoming Grammy performance with Coldplay.
“WE reached 2BILLION views on @youtube !!! THANK U!!! I’m in a great mood, and I got some GREAT NEWS!!! PRINCESS OF CHINA #GRAMMYS2012”

Next up we have Nicki Minaj, whose disgraceful single “Stupid Hoe” was viewed 4.5 million time during its first 24 hours of release, a record according to the good folks over at VEVO.

This could be good news for Minaj, who had to push back the release of her sophomore album “Roman Reloaded” because feedback for “Stupid Hoe” was less than favorable.

On a high note, Nicki will be performing at next month’s Grammy ceremony and is expected to make an appearance during Madonna’s Superbowl performance.

  1. Nicki performing with Madonna will be interesting. I’m actually a bit excited for her. Madonna is a beast!

As for the youtube records. Congrats? I guess? People like colorful videos: *cough*….”Stupid Hoe” and good visuals: Rih’s vids.

  2. It is indeed Nicki’s time, she’s having a swell time in the biz!!! What’s yours is yours, like it or not and no one can deny you!

    Congrats to both ladies!!!

  3. Adele has proven once again that even the most efficient marketing team can’t overcome the power of true talent. The British Soul singer’s ‘Someone Like You’ has maintained its grip on the top slot of the Billboard Hot 100 and effectively denied Rihanna a chance to score her 11th #1 single with ‘We Found Love’.

‘Someone Like You’ has landed at #1 on the tally for a 5th week and accomplished yet another remarkable feat. Following the 7-week run at the top of the Hot 100 by her previous single, ‘Rolling in the Deep’, Adele has become the 4th woman to notch 2 songs that have remained at #1 on the chart for over 5 weeks each within a calendar year.

Notably, Mariah Carey was the first woman to set the bar with her songs ‘Fantasy’ and ‘One Sweet Day (With Boyz II Men)’ in 1995. The former track stayed at #1 on the Hot 100 for 8 weeks whereas ‘One Sweet Day’ dominated the summit for the last 5 weeks of that year before holding the top spot for a yet unmatched 16 weeks.
