OK, I am being a bit dramatic, but according to Hits Daily Double, based on one day sales, Rihanna’s album is expected to only sell around 160-170,000 copies this week. That number is not good enough to land her album, Good Girl Gone Bad, in the number one slot and may not be good enough to even land it in the number two position, as HDD also reports that T-Pain’s album is due to sell around the same amount. In other words, Rihanna and T-pain will basically be fighting over the number two spot while HDD reports that Sir Paul McCartney’s new album, Memory Almost Full, will grab poll position with sales around 180,000.
This number is quite shocking to me as Umbrella is not only a smash, but the marketing and promotion of the album has been quite aggressive. I really expected Rihanna’s numbers to reflect her budding new superstar status. That obviously is not the case and even if HDD is wrong, which they sometimes are ((They predicted Janet Jackson’s album would be #1 and it wasn’t.)), their numbers are rarely off by much- which means that at best Good Girl Gone Bad may have sales somewhere in the low 200,000 ballpark, but that’s about it.
I’m sure Rihanna was aware of these number when she signed copies of her new CD yesterday and you can see pics from that signing to your above left and on the pages below. You can also read the HDD article for yourselves which will be on page 3.
