80s rap icon Sandy “Pepa” Denton recently revealed that she, Salt and Spinderealla were working on bringing their life story to the big screen. As many of you know, Salt n’ Pepa were the first female rappers to garner mainstream success with such hits as Shoop and Whatta Man. However, after finally striking it big in the early 2000s, the group disbanded, and only recently united via their VH1 reality series The Salt n’ Pepa Show. “It’s a story that needs to be told,” Pepa told WENN. “It’s that girl-next-door story- people would identify with it. It would make a great movie – very juicy.” Pepa revealed she would like Meagan Good to portray her in the film. “Meagan Good could play me in my younger years. She reminds me of myself,” said Pepa. Earlier this year, Pepa released her memoir titled Let’s Talk About Pep. The book chronicles Pepa’s rap career and revealed the abuse she suffered in her childhood and failed marriages. She also speaks on her “breakup” with Salt and their eventual “reunion”.
LOL is that a complement to act like Pepa in her younger years. Meagan looks and acts nothing like Pepa. Good luck on the biopic ladies. Zoe Kravits should play Salt.
I loved S-n-P back in the day, and I enjoyed their VH1 series. With that being said, Salt is content with just being with her family and staying involved in church. Pepa still wants fame and fortune, and still is the wild child of the group. Salt has grown, Pepa has not.
I really dont’ see that need for a biopic, but hey, that’s just me.
i agree
I Loved Salt N pepa …… Spinderella and Pepa’s foundation in that pic is soooo wrong on so lol.
They were the bomb…. back in the day. Now, well… Salt has grown (notice I didn’t say Pepa) and it’s done. Pep should let it lie.
Pepa has grown they have just had different experiences in life. She seems to be a very nice person and just full of flavor. She opened up on that show and is starting to deal with the sexual abuse she suffered as a child and she wrote a book to cleanse herself of her bad relationships in the past. If that is not growth then I don’t know the definition of growth. She is just a fun person to be around.
I loved the girl group from “back in the day”. They really impressed me wtih their rap and dancing. All 3, Salt, Pepa and Spin are to be gradulated on what they did when they were together. I do agree that many of us from the 80’s has grown up and moved on. But Pepa still wants to be in the lime light and more power to her, I mean do your thang, just dont pull anyone in that does not want to be involved. Ms. Salt and Spin are doing their own thang just being happy with their families and children. I saw the reality show a couple of times but I was not impressed.
I think some things should be let in the good memory of the past. In other words if it is not broke dont try to fix it…
I’m just saying……
I’d watch the film. On another note, (looking at that picture) makeup for black women
sure has come a long ways since the 80s.
That pic was probably taken in 1987 and there was plenty of make-up for Black woman back then. I think bad lighting is making them look a lil ashy.
I agree with UnalteredBeauty…make-up for black women has come a long way. When I see pictures of Oprah (and other black women from the 80s) they all look like the picture of Salt n’ Pepa-the make-up choices and color was horrible. Lighting had nothing to do with it. They had to use what was out there at the time. Ash = they did not have our true undertones down to a science at the time.
I would watch the movie. Salt ‘n’ Pepa were my girls back in the day! Who else used to tape the videos from BET (Donnie Simpson) and learn the dance moves? (lol) I loved them and I believe there is still a place for them..maybe not in music, but definitely in mentoring or teaching young girls.
cosign with Unaltered Beauty to a certain extent, I tried on some Bare Minerals makeup in Sephora yesterday, oh whee chile! I looked just like Spin and Pep. Some makeup companies have it right: Iman, Clinique for example, and others still have a long way to go… but I digress. This post is not about makeup! LOL
I used to love Salt & Pepa. I was about six when they were around, but I still thought that they were great. I didn’t like the reality show too much though. Pep still wants to be famous at any cost it seems and Salt is like ehhh… I have a good man and kids, I don’t need to step back into that. Pep reminds me of Bobby Brown in someways. That dude will do anything for publicity and just loves all the attention that his foolishness garners. Pep is not nearly as crude and tacky, but if Salt and Pepa don’t get back together, I can see her doing every single “celebrity” reality show, or anything of the like, that comes her way. Homegirl LIVES for the spotlight.
I would definately watch it. I like them, even their reality show. (Is it coming back to TV?). Unfortunately I have to say I would like to see some one other than megan good portray pepper. I Think Megan is cool and I hear that she is really nice, but for some reason, she couldn’t convince me that SHE is peppa. Peppa is a bit more rugged.
SNP was one of my favorite groups, especially later in their career. I played the CD with “Whatta Man” out. (Can’t think of the name of the CD, lol) I don’t think that the movie would be a good idea, I mean what is left to know about their story? I would watch it if it was on Lifetime or something. Pep is screaming for attention, she should just break out on her own, and leave the days of SNP behind.
^^My dear Torya, there is ALWAYS more to the story ;)
I think Lifetime would be a good idea. I would like to know more about them, even though they are different now, you can still see that they love each other.
A great actor or actress can convincingly play any part no matter what they’re like in real life. Even Spike Lee admitted when he first found out Halle Berry was cast to play the drug addict in Jungle Fever he was upset because he didn’t think she could pull it off. AND INDEED SHE DID!!!!!!!!!
I think Angell Conwell should play Pepa. She played her daughter in a sitcom pilot back in 1995. It would be smart casting to cast Angell to play Pepa. I worked on the pilot at Disney when they shot it. Unfortunately it wasn’t picked up, I thought it was a cute show.
