Single Black Female

Husband-and-wife duo Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil have been given the green light by BET to produce a pilot for “Single Black Female,” an hour long drama about the life of an Atlanta based talk show host.

The pilot order also includes a three year agreement between BET and Akil Productions that will result in more original scripted programs for the channel.

Word is BET is looking to beef up their line-up after the unexpected slip in ratings suffered by “The Game.” The show is reportedly on its last legs, down nearly 50% in viewership from last season.

As for “Single Black Female,” casting for the lead part has already begun, but there is no word as to when we can expect the pilot to actually air.
