Sista Sightings: Brandy in Los Angeles

Brandy R n’ B singer Brandy seems to be keeping a low profile these days. The singer’s fifth studio album, Human, was released late last year and got rave reviews- garnering 4 out of 5 stars from Billboard Magazine. Great reviews however did not lead to great sales and thus the singer’s album and both her singles, Right Here (Departed) and Long Distance, have struggled on the charts. Like other R n’ B divas of the late 90’s, Brandy finds herself struggling to find her place in a musical landscape now dominated by a new generation of female singers.

Brandy, Monica and Toni Braxton once dominated the R n’ B charts- but those days seem long gone now with radio stations showing little to no love for artists who started out in the 90’s and beyond.

So how does Brandy stay relevant? Acting. Brandy is one of the few singer/actresses who can actually act and rumors have been swirling around for some time now that her momager, Sonya Norwood, was in talks with the CW to bring her daughter back to television with a new sitcom. A hit show would do the singer well and give her a vehicle for her music. Hopefully these rumors pan out. I loved Moesha.

Oh yeah, check out Brandy below captured by the paps last week running errands.

  1. i downloaded the album for free and listened to it and i cant get that hour of my life back.

  2. i like all her songs and album is rocking but we all know that the industry is unfair

  3. i like all her songs and the whole album is solid and very high quality but we all know that the industry is unfair,i hope she dsnt get discouraged …….she is a good actress

  4. Bran!!! I grew up off Bran, loved all of her previous albums, but for some reason, I just cannot get into this new album!

  5. That’s what happens when you become a pop star, short shelf life. If she hangs in there, I am sure she can bounce back. I think if singers get back to making real music, using real instruments and stop recylcing the same producers they will see success again.

  6. Yeah, I love Brandy too, but this album was a little too “pop” to me. Alot of ballads. And I love ballads too, but come on B-Rocka. Let’s bring it back to the R&B!

Girl, stop playin and just gon and re-release “Never Say Never”.

  7. OK! Brandy can act, and I really hope that she does a tv show or starts seriously pursuing feature films. Brandy is an all around talent, and she’s already proven that she can act and sing. So many other artists do it. Brandy already has a successful track record with television. I really think acting is a “no-brainer” for her. Be like Nike and JUST DO IT;-)

  8. The album is so amazing. I wish it experienced the commercial success it deserves but if not, I am happy to have it in my life!

  9. I wish Brandy well and I believe that if a person wants something they will get no matter how the market is. I like rock and roll music more than any other genre, but i will buy country songs, r & b, rap, alternative if I like it. I usually hear about music coming out from different sources so I know which artists are releasing music. Therefore, I believe that whether the music is good or bad or in between, if a person wants it they will buy it no matter what the trend is.

  10. Love the album. I do remember the rumor or that sitcom, I hope it comes to pass b/c I think it really can be a hit! I am so fed up with “The Game” that TV show is all about sex now and I don’t like the way Wendy Raquel Robinson (Tasha Mack) is portrayed. I need a new show to get addicted to.

  11. I love Brandy! I will support her bc she can sing and her style is cool too. If she gets a show I will watch it if it is relevant to her age group….

  12. I just went & picked up the Brandy Human album- I like many grew up w/ her. I was skeptical, but once I heard ” Long Distance” I was sold. Personally I don’t think the album is pop & I don’t consider it RnB… I think it has a more of a indy feel . I think that she has a lot of nice tracks on this album, of course to each’s own. I find that the album has a sense of innocence/free type of theme going on. Yes it has a lot of ballads, but maybe that’s where her heart was on this album. Some albums are meant to be slow to mid tempo while others are meant to be dance/ up beat tracks. On the acting, it would be nice to see Brandy back on the lil screen, hey who didn’t like Moesha lol. I hope that Brandy sticks to what SHE wants to do & not bend to the pressure of “popular”, being TRUE to oneself is very important. Out of the many years & albums that Brandy has released over the years this is the 1st time that I actually bought her album & not just a single… it’s a purchase that I am glad I made.

  13. FIRST OF ALL THE ALBUM IS AMAZING. SHES SINGING HER BUTT OFF.
UNFORTUNATLEY THE CURRENT WOMEN OF THE CHARTS ARE HEADING HER OFF AND SHE CAN T GET THROUGH, CAUSE ALL THE PROMOTION FOR ALBUMS ARE FOR THE LEAD FEMALE ARTIST RIGHT NOW, AND SHES TRYIN TO COME BACK. SHE DESERVES AN AWARD CAUSE SHE IS AMAZING………..BUT I THINK SHES GETTING PLAYED RIGHT NOW.

  14. love Brandy+hated the two singles=didn’t bother purchasing the album (bought Keyshia though…)

  15. i wish they would bringing moesha back! i swear if they do it can only help her! EVERYONE (in what was it for me, middle school? lol i donno) but EVERYONE loved that show and it was my favorite

  16. I too consider her latest work not so urban but the CD is very good. If Clear Channel didn’t own all of the radio stations and there were more black owned stations as it were through the nineties, then we would hear about all of our fav artist more often.

I am pleased that her team made sure she released 2 good videos. The CD has not been out that long so I hope she still promotes her work.

Don’t give up on your CD just yet, Ms. B!

There are still many good artist making good music. Fair & just radio programming just don’t exist in this country.

  17. I too love her recent CD. We are about the same age so I basically grew up watching her.

  18. Well – Beyonce’s latest patchy mess of an album will sell truckloads and Brandy’s latest solid, commercial, tuneful and well-sung album won’t – what a surprise – NOT!!

At least Brandy can be proud that she delivered something consistent and strong as an album, rather than the two decent singles surrounded by sub-standard filler that seems to be the current R&B album standard.
