Singers Jennifer Hudson, Keri Hilson and Beyonce Knowles all made public appearances over the weekend. Jennifer kicked off her co-headlining tour with singer Robin Thicke at Madison Square Garden in New York City- while up and coming R n’ B starlet, Keri Hilson, made an appearance at the Radio WGCI Coca Cola Lounge in Chicago. Beyonce, once again taking time off from her “I Am” tour, also put in work over the weekend- making a low-key appearance with hubby Jay-Z at Q-tip’s 38th birthday party. Rumors starting swirling this week that the pair were due to go on tour together but I doubt this. Much is being made of Beyonce’s shows not selling out, but this is actually nothing new. Many critics spoke of half empty venues during her last tour.
Though a huge star, Beyonce is not a touring force and never has been. Therefore some of her shows sell out while others don’t. I’m sure her management expected this and is not looking for Jay to run in and save the day.
I’m so happy to see Jennifer moving on with her life and being successful. She deserves some happiness with all she has been through.
Beyonce and her camp should have been smarter and chosen a better venue to start the tour with. She never sells that well in Canada and instead should have hit a major U.S city, Europe or Asia. She started off the Beyonce Experience tour in Japan with a sellout crowd of 20,000. Kicking off the new tour in a small venue that wasn’t packed has now given the press carte blanche to call her tour a flop even though quite a few venues have sold out already.
Without controversy Keri Hilson and her music are very boring.

And I’m sorry Steph but I have to disagree with you on Beyonce not being a touring force. While her last tour had a number of dates that did not sell out many more did but with it being Beyonce people expect her to sell out every show and made a big deal of it when she didn’t. She did 50 mil with her last tour and while that’s not Madonna’s 200+mil that’s still very good. As other people have stated all most all of her European dates have sold out as does most of her shows over seas.
None of her shows in Europe are s old out, I just left the ticket master site and ALL dates still have tickets. You all really need to double check things before repeating them as fact.
As I was considering going and TICKETS are STILL AVAILABLE. Geesh, I am beginning to believe that Americans are indeed DUMB.

I`m definitely rooting for JHud. She “seems” to be very genuine. As I`ve stated before, one can never be sure because, we don`t know any of these celebrities. I dare to say, for the most part, their public persona is just that. It`s nothing more than a game of charades. However, instincts tells me that, Jennifer is the exception. One thing is for sure, when a person is SUCH a “PHONY”and very “CONCEITED” you can spot it a week away….
As for Keri, speaking from a male perspective, she is stunningly beautiful. The sista definitely catches my eye and makes me pause.

Keri is beautiful. Wow, she is really stunning. However, I don’t listen to either of these ladies. Once in a while I hear JHud on the radio, or Beyonce and Kelly on VH1 and those MTV channels but none of them are my cup of tea. As far as Beyonce’s tour, I don’t understand why her numbers matter so much to everybody. I honestly don’t care how much money she makes, how many albums she sells, how many sold out concerts she has or how much money she made with her clothing line but it seems like people on this site care so much about all of that. But out of curiosity and upon reading many conflicting comments about it here, I went to billboard.com and checked the top grossing concerts. There is more but I didn’t see Beyonce in the top 10 so I don’t know if that means she sold out her didn’t sell out her concerts venues. Nor do I think it’s a big deal. If she doesn’t sell out, does that make her a worse artist? NO. So I don’t see the big deal. You cannot sell out everything you do/show.
However, I have experienced 2 concerts in my lifetime. I went to see Beyonce Experience in August 2007 and I went to see Celine Dion Taking Chances World tour last September. They were in the same arenas. However, the settings were different. Celine Dion had a rotating stage that was set in the middle of the arena so there were people all around it, just like a basketball game. But Beyonce had her stage on the side of the arena and the public was facing the stage on one side only. I don’t know if y’all understand what I am trying to say. However that side where the public was seated in the Beyonce Experience concert was full.
It doesn’t matter some people just don’t like FLAGRANT LIES irrespective of the topic and they are fighting against the LIE, lying is offensive to many people as some of us were taught to tell the truth.
I am going to her concert, I like her, but I don’t like when her fans, camp or whoever starts SPREADING LIES when it really isn’t necessary.

for someone who is not a touring force, she can sure sell out 14 dates in the UK alone. the woman is not going to sell out everywhere and her concerts make money (the sony president wouldn’t have called her the biggest artist on that label for nothing). if you try to look at her last ticket sales tally, you won’t find them (except an estimation from forbes and i don’t really consider them that credible) because billboard only counted 20 shows which had earned 18.5 mil. for watever reason, they stopped counting after that. she did 100+ tour dates last time and if her label didn’t think she was a touring attraction, they wouldn’t send her out there by herself to do another 100+ tour dates. she’s never done well in canada, but the number of people who showed up for this tour were more than the people who showed up for the last tour so she should be proud. i’m sure she can’t wait to kick off the tour in europe where she has completely sold out.

I love that Jennifer is hanging in there doing what she does best and loving it. I like that she does not use gimmicks and the likes to just be herself and entertain those that pay for entertainment. And I don’t listen to Keri but do think that she is talented. Her music is just not my cup of tea though. I admire Beyonce and her work ethic, because it does not matter if you don’t sell out a venue as long as you enjoy what you do and some of the people like you, you are good. So kudos to the ladies who do their best and entertain us.

I agree that Beyonce’s nor DC tour dates are big tickets. Just check out Billboard.com during the tour season and they are never in the top 15. Even the last DC tour struggled with sales. I guess selling records should be the greatest focus for them but I can hear the times up ticking starting for both of Beys solo careers, the one with DC and the one without the Kelly and Michelle. As much hype as she gets gets, her cds only sell a couple of millions. From the noise around her, everything she sells should go diamond stat the first week. :brownsista:
I went to the Jennifer Hudson and Robin Thiche show at NJPAC and it was off the hook. It was worth every penny. She sung her butt off and so did Robin. I knew she could sing but i didn’t no she could sang. She came a long way from her days on American Idol.

Beyonce is the touring force which is why she made more in 2008 than any other artist besides some old school group. But she beat out everyone else. So if she’s not selling out venues, imagine how hard it is for all the other to sell out venues.

I think alot of Beyonce’s money is coming from endorsement deals as opposed to music, not that her music isn’t making her money but the girl is hawking everything these days.

I got BeyonceFan was trying to say about Jennifer’s voice. One thing an artist/entertainer has to learn is how to pace themselves on tour. If an artist is doing 2 hours, every night for 6 months, that’s a lot of using your voice and there are some performances where you have to tone it down a little and not “swing for the fences”. That’s something that she will have to learn and I think she will.
Beyonce is more popular in the states than she is overseas. Britney is still more successful and popular globally than Beyonce.
Jennifer Hudson is a good singer, but she has no real stage presence. She needs to work on that. She doesn’t bring it to the stage like Patti, Gladys, Stephanie and Fantasia do.

The sold out shows are due to limited seating, and her stage takes up alot of seats…..her Dublin show will hold about 14k people standing but sitting only holds 8k not including the space her stage and equipment will take up.

En fait c’est un peu plus compliqué que ça: en France c’est vrai que ses albums ne se vendent pas et IASF n’a même pas fait le top 20 je crois. Mais elle a quand même une fanbase et elle arrive à remplir Bercy (bon elle met un peu de temps quand même, elle ne le remplit pas en une heure mais en plusieurs mois). Même B’Day n’avait pas marché mais son concert était complet. Ce qu’il faut voir c’est que contrairement aux Etats-Unis quand les artistes internationaux viennent en Europe la plupart du temps ils ne font qu’une voire deux dates par pays, c’est pour ça que c’est toujours complet. Cette fois-ci elle fait Paris et Strasbourg. Chris Brown aussi a rempli Bercy mais c’était sa seule date en France. C’est des gens de toute la France qui viennent aux concerts à Paris pas seulement les parisiens. Par contre Madonna a fait 3-4 dates dans plusieurs villes de France et c’était complet.
C’est la raison aussi pour laquelle son conert en Croatie est complet: elle ne fait qu’une date et en plus c’est la
première fois qu’elle y va. Ca aussi ça rentre en compte. Et puis c’est un petit pays la Croatie pour nous. Etre complet en Croatie c’est comme si vous Americains disiez que vous avez un concert complet en Alaska.
Par rapport aux UK: la situation est totalement différente. Elle est aussi huge là-bas qu’elle l’est aux Etats-Unis. Donc oui apparemment c’est complet.
Pour les autres pays comme l’Espagne, l’Italie, l’Allemagne, etc je ne sais pas.

I saw a few clips on youtube and she sounded AMAZING! Especially on Whitney’s You Give Good Love. I was shocked. She did not oversing it at all. It was perfection.

When people give a concert and all they do is sing to a back-track, I can save my money and put their album in my surround sound. That’s just MY preference. I’m a band geek/music major, so I love that Bee has the live band and the back-up singers.
She’s giving me my money’s worth with all the little extras, the fine male dancers(heehee), and her voice, changing up the songs.
