I’ve been watching. I loved Rihanna’s looks and Beyonce’s as well. Both Rihanna and Alicia gave great performances, and Alicia had such a spirited energy when she was on stage. Good for Beyonce on winning the international artist award. Queen Latifah looked good and performed much better than I was expecting, despite her size she still looked amazing. Beauty is not a size 0. I saw Mary, and although she didn’t really do much for me, glad she was there and she seemed to have a good energy about her.
Everyone did well, Glad to see Celine back on the scene, too. Justin Timberlake has been drinking again. Wish he was there.
All of the ladies looked very nice, but I am going to say that I think that Beyonce took Destiny Child’s accomplishment, she did not deserve that award, but I just learned that this was her first time ever winning an award from the American Music Award as a solo artist. I can not understand it she did not win any of the awards that she was nominated for, so I guess they had to give her something for showing up!!! I can’t get over the fact that this was her very first time winning an award from the AMA’s as a solo artist, so that alone let you know that she did not deserve this award because she went out of the country to perform her tour!!! Rihanna has won many International female of the year award!!
Tommy, the nominations at the AMAs are based on sales and radio airplay while the awards are given out based on mere voting through the internet. Based on sales, Rihanna could only get a nod in the rnb soul female category. As I’m sure you know, she failed to get a nod in the rnb soul album category. Why? Justin, Bee and R kelly upstaged her. Most importantly , she failed to receive a nod in the pop or rock female category (which is what she does best) because she was again up against beyonce, not to mention Avril and Fergie. The only possible reason why she won the award was because some people voted too much for her, possibly you. And no, her and marI am not dissing you. Referring back to the international awards she won (I suppose you mean the world music awards) have another look at the archives. Beyonce beat her and mary j blige to best selling rnb artist last year. I guess you wouldn’t have to take that much of a look back to the archives. It just happened last year.

The show was just ok for me. Gone are the days of great music awards shows from the past when Michael Jackson ruled the charts. But I thought Chris Brown, Alicia Keys, Mary J and Queen Latifah’s performances were stand outs.
Again, Beyonce’s performance was over hyped. What was so special about that performance? If I am not mistaking, I think Nelly did a duo with Tim McGraw about two years ago and Jamie Fox performed with a country group recently. So again, what was so special about that performance. But she did look very nice and elegant.

British pop/soul singer Des’ree is suing Beyonce for allegedly covering D’s 1998 ballad “I’m Kissing You,” according to TMZ.com. In a complaint filed Tuesday in Manhattan Federal Court, Des’ree claims Bey never cleared her version of the track – retitled “Still in Love (Kissing You)” and included on the deluxe re-issue of B’Day. The suit alleges that Beyonce and reps from her record label, Columbia, initially tried to work out a deal to clear the song – which stipulated that the title could not be changed, and a video could not be cut. When Beyonce and company found Des’ree’s demands unsatisfactory, says the suit, she allegedly disregarded the contract and copywrite law and cut the track. The suit seeks at least $150,000 in damages. Des’ree also wants to curb distribution of the song, video, and album.

Columbia Records is facing the prospect of having to pull the new deluxe edition of Beyonce’s “B’Day” from store shelves amid a legal dispute over publishing rights. But rather than remove the release from stores altogether, Columbia parent company Sony BMG plans to manufacture and distribute a new version of the deluxe edition, minus one track featuring the challenged copyright, multiple sources say.
At the heart of the controversy is the track and accompanying video “Still in Love (Kissing You),” a new reworking of Des’ree’s 1996 song “I’m Kissing You.”
The Royalty Network Inc., a publishing company administering the copyright on behalf of Timothy Attack, co-writer of the song, alleges that Sony BMG didn’t receive their permission to use “I’m Kissing You.” It is pressing the matter by filing a copyright infringement complaint with the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of New York — a move that has led to a temporary halt of distribution of the album.
Sony BMG, Sony BMG Sales Enterprise, Beyonce, her B-Day Publishing company and EMI April Music are all named in the suit.
A preliminary injunction hearing is set for May 4, which could require Sony BMG to permanently stop distributing the copies of “B’Day — Deluxe Edition” and “B’Day — Deluxe Edition/Video Anthology,” a special Wal-Mart version of the release, and perhaps even remove unsold discs from store shelves. As part of the temporary cease-and-desist, “Still in Love (Kissing You)” has been yanked from digital services (though the rest of the album remains) and the “Still in Love” video has been pulled from video outlets.
Sony Agrees to $10M ‘Payola’ Settlement
Recording industry titan Sony BMG Music Entertainment agreed Monday to pay $10 million and stop bribing radio stations to feature its artists in what a state official called a more sophisticated generation of the payola scandals of decades ago.
The agreement springs from an investigation by New York state Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, who called the practice “pervasive” in the industry and suggested other music industry giants could face similar penalties.
Pay-for-play “is driving the industry, and it is wrong,” Spitzer told reporters
Sony BMG, whose various labels include hundreds of artists from Tony Bennett to Beyonce Knowles and the Dixie Chicks, said in a statement some of its employees had engaged in “wrong and improper” practices.
The company said it looked forward to “defining a new, higher standard in radio promotion,” but did not say whether it had fired or disciplined any of those employees. A spokeswoman did not return a call for further comment…
Spitzer said Sony BMG’s efforts to win more airplay took many forms, including outright bribes of cash and electronics to radio stations and paying for contest giveaways for listeners. In other cases, he said, Sony BMG used middlemen known as independent promoters to funnel cash to radio stations.
The Oscars’ songwriting branch has decided to qualify only Henry Krieger, Anne Preven and Scott Cutler for writing “Listen.” No explanation is given for why Beyonce is excluded over the others. Is this just one of those cases of where the singer insisted upon having her name added to credits as part of her performance deal? In media interviews, she’s often said that she was truly involved in its songwriting. Apparently, not to the extent as her three collaborators, according to the Oscars.

All of the ladies looked very nice, but I am going to say that I think that Beyonce took Destiny Child’s accomplishment, she did not deserve that award, but I just learned that this was her first time ever winning an award from the American Music Award as a solo artist. I can not understand it she did not win any of the awards that she was nominated for, so I guess they had to give her something for showing up!!! I can’t get over the fact that this was her very first time winning an award from the AMA’s as a solo artist, so that alone let you know that she did not deserve this award because she went out of the country to perform her tour!!! Rihanna has won many International female of the year award!!
Tommy, the nominations at the AMAs are based on sales and radio airplay while the awards are given out based on mere voting through the internet. Based on sales, Rihanna could only get a nod in the rnb soul female category. As I’m sure you know, she failed to get a nod in the rnb soul album category. Why? Justin, Bee and R kelly upstaged her. Most importantly , she failed to receive a nod in the pop or rock female category (which is what she does best) because she was again up against beyonce, not to mention Avril and Fergie. The only possible reason why she won the award was because some people voted too much for her, possibly you. And no, her and marI am not dissing you. Referring back to the international awards she won (I suppose you mean the world music awards) have another look at the archives. Beyonce beat her and mary j blige to best selling rnb artist last year. I guess you wouldn’t have to take that much of a look back to the archives. It just happened last year.

The show was just ok for me. Gone are the days of great music awards shows from the past when Michael Jackson ruled the charts. But I thought Chris Brown, Alicia Keys, Mary J and Queen Latifah’s performances were stand outs.
Again, Beyonce’s performance was over hyped. What was so special about that performance? If I am not mistaking, I think Nelly did a duo with Tim McGraw about two years ago and Jamie Fox performed with a country group recently. So again, what was so special about that performance. But she did look very nice and elegant.

But rather than remove the release from stores altogether, Columbia parent company Sony BMG plans to manufacture and distribute a new version of the deluxe edition, minus one track featuring the challenged copyright, multiple sources say.
At the heart of the controversy is the track and accompanying video “Still in Love (Kissing You),” a new reworking of Des’ree’s 1996 song “I’m Kissing You.”
The Royalty Network Inc., a publishing company administering the copyright on behalf of Timothy Attack, co-writer of the song, alleges that Sony BMG didn’t receive their permission to use “I’m Kissing You.” It is pressing the matter by filing a copyright infringement complaint with the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of New York — a move that has led to a temporary halt of distribution of the album.
Sony BMG, Sony BMG Sales Enterprise, Beyonce, her B-Day Publishing company and EMI April Music are all named in the suit.
A preliminary injunction hearing is set for May 4, which could require Sony BMG to permanently stop distributing the copies of “B’Day — Deluxe Edition” and “B’Day — Deluxe Edition/Video Anthology,” a special Wal-Mart version of the release, and perhaps even remove unsold discs from store shelves. As part of the temporary cease-and-desist, “Still in Love (Kissing You)” has been yanked from digital services (though the rest of the album remains) and the “Still in Love” video has been pulled from video outlets.
Sony Agrees to $10M ‘Payola’ Settlement
Recording industry titan Sony BMG Music Entertainment agreed Monday to pay $10 million and stop bribing radio stations to feature its artists in what a state official called a more sophisticated generation of the payola scandals of decades ago.
The agreement springs from an investigation by New York state Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, who called the practice “pervasive” in the industry and suggested other music industry giants could face similar penalties.
Pay-for-play “is driving the industry, and it is wrong,” Spitzer told reporters
Sony BMG, whose various labels include hundreds of artists from Tony Bennett to Beyonce Knowles and the Dixie Chicks, said in a statement some of its employees had engaged in “wrong and improper” practices.
The company said it looked forward to “defining a new, higher standard in radio promotion,” but did not say whether it had fired or disciplined any of those employees. A spokeswoman did not return a call for further comment…
Spitzer said Sony BMG’s efforts to win more airplay took many forms, including outright bribes of cash and electronics to radio stations and paying for contest giveaways for listeners. In other cases, he said, Sony BMG used middlemen known as independent promoters to funnel cash to radio stations.
The Oscars’ songwriting branch has decided to qualify only Henry Krieger, Anne Preven and Scott Cutler for writing “Listen.” No explanation is given for why Beyonce is excluded over the others. Is this just one of those cases of where the singer insisted upon having her name added to credits as part of her performance deal? In media interviews, she’s often said that she was truly involved in its songwriting. Apparently, not to the extent as her three collaborators, according to the Oscars.
