Newsflash – Rihanna is a pop star. She is not an R&B soul singing diva. There are tons of female and male artists from the past who had wonderful careers but did not have the singing pipes like that of Aretha Franklin or Whitney Houston. Rihanna has that something that the media and her fans like. Black woman for some reason just don’t like her. She is not R&B, she is a rock/reggae/pop star.

I think all the ladies look funky fresh! In the spirit of theVMAs they’re hair and outfits seem quite appropriate. I didn’t get to watch the show; I don’t watch MTV, but I hope to see some clips today. Thanks for these images!

That RIHANNA performance was soooooo horrible!!! I rather her lip sing then to sound that bad. Im so tired of people sticking up for her and she cant even sing. If that was anybody else ya’ll would of lost it. She not even hit one note!

Yeah I think labeling Rihanna a r&b diva is sooooooooo wrong. Rihanna is pop/rock. Her voice could never cut it in the r&b world. But if Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Blondie can make a lasting effect with those voices - Rihanna def has it in the bag.

just cause rihanna is pop doesn’t mean she ought to sound a damn mess. at least modonna and brit got something going for them, which is their ability to entertain. rihanna ain’t got either. she has no stage presence what-so-ever and anyone who continues to overlook that has no sense of true music. most of ya’ll like her cause of her style, so i think she should model and leave the singing to those who can actually sing and entertain. the dancers stole the attention from her, and it was her song.

overall, the show sucked, thank goodness i decided to watch serena kick some butt instead of watching this crap on tv. i youtubed the performances and that was even a waste of my time!

I think Rihanna is stunning; however chick needs to learn how to lip synch like the rest of them. She sounded like she swallowed a billy goat.

There are many POP artist that can sing, Rihanna just isn’t one of them. However, she can kill the runway!

She had a great performance if you just count the , background dancers, the staging and lighting, but that voice has got to go. She is not good what so ever live. And i thought the awards once a again was stupid and boring just like last year. The BET awards have been way better then the VMA’s for at least three years straight.

anywhooo–I have to giggle when people write “Rihanna wowed the crowd” or “Shut it Down” last night because I watched it and the audience seemes as underwhelmed as I was. I can appreciate a differance in performance stlye, but hell one must have first and foremost some type of performing ability, and Rhianna has none. Geeesh we sure have lowered our standards for performers nowadays..Im not sure what proffesional critics gave her praise, but the majority of the show was like watching paint dry…..I kept wathcing because I didnt know who else was performing, and I was tryna give them a chance to redeem themselves, Pink was cool, its a toss up with Xtina, but in comparison to the “woman of the Hour” they’re the one’s who “Tore it Down”. But I will say they couldve at least gave Rih an award, dont they usually give at least one award to someone with multiple performaces, regardless of how lackluster they were?

and I think Rihanna and Solo looked the best , Lord knows what was going on with the rest of em’ Why Keri Hilson WHY? she has a great face, and body..but is set on having these wigs that make her look like a DAMN FOOL, Im gonna put her in the D. I missed Rhianna’s performance with T.I., but I got to see her solo performance. I thought that it was good, I wasn’t impressed with her vocals.
