So Much For No More Drama; Mary Gets Sued

Singer Mary J. Blige is being sued. The Drama Family Entertainment Company filed a two million dollar claim against the singer Tuesday in a federal court in New York City. The lawsuit accuses Blige of copyright infringement, claiming her tune “Work It,” from her latest album, Growing Pains, was created by a producer who worked for them at the time. The song was featured with a silhouette of Mary dancing in an iPod commercial, though Apple was not named in the suit.

Mary’s latest album debuted high on the charts but eventually suffered a drop in sales after the second single, Stay Down, failed to catch on at radio stations after being released nearly five months after the first single. MJB fans have accused Mary’s label (Geffen) of tanking the singer’s album and career in favor of labelmate Keyshia Cole. Mary’s album has sold more but only two videos have been shot while Cole’s album has seen the release of 4 single and videos, with “You’ve Changed” slated to be the fifth. Keyshia presently occupies the #1 spot on the R n’ B charts with the single Heaven Sent.

I wonder if this is a case of the producer ‘moonlighting’ from his day job for this song. Some jobs require employees to sign intellectual property papers that basically says any work they do during the period of employment belongs to the company. I think that rolls over into outside or weekend jobs.

But if that were the case, why not sue Apple too? They broadcast that song over TV, and help make it more popular.

It’s just business. People get sued all the time. It’s not really Mary he wants he really wants the record company to up the money. It will be handled out of court.

I agree with Liya and Bria. Mary will be “Just Fine.” People want their money. Intellectual property get’s hacked, stolen and repurposed all the time. It’s only when it makes ri-dunk-kulous amounts of money that people wanna sue.

I remember the video/TV commercial that is being refered to. It was all over the TV over a year ago. If that song belongs to The Drama Family Entertainment Company, as they claim it does, why are thet just now getting around to suing Mary J. now, over a year later? I’m pretty sure that issue will be brought up by Mary J.’s lawyers.

Mentioning Mary’s name in the suit helps to bring attention to the case. They are trying to get attention/sympathy for the case. Mary will be fine.

I hope Geffen is not trying to sabotage Mary’s career. I know that Keyshia’s songs are being played on the radio more than Mary’s. Although it has been said that Keyshia is the “new” Mary J. Blige. The entertainment industry is so crazy. I know that I will take Mary over Keyshia anyday.

I agree with all of you! Drama Entertainment just wants some attention because I’ve never even heard of them before! Mary J. will get through this and keep going anyways! And yea, Keyshia makes good music but she will NEVER EVER in a million years come close to touching Mary J…. so stop comparing them! QUEEN MARY RULES FOREVER!
