Have you guys been watching Jill Scott and Anika Noni Rose’s new HBO drama, The No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency? The show first aired two weeks ago and I have seen repeats of each episode about 20 times. I watch very little television, mostly news and HGTV, so having an adult show I can watch and enjoy is truly a pleasure. Jill Scott is truly an amazing actress- just in case anyone thinks her performance in “Why Did I Get Married” was just a fluke. Anika Noni Rose is also amazing in her role as Jill’s secretary. Anika is such an underrated actress. She keeps getting cast alongside well known singers so attention for her is always rather sparse. Still, she owns each role she plays and just like in Dreamgirls, her comedic and sweet nature totally saves the day. Continue Reading →
Actress Holly Robinson Peete attended Thursday night’s NAACP Award show, wearing a lovely sequined Naeem Khan dress, which granted her a spot on my ‘Top 10 Best Dressed At The NAACP Image Awards‘. She paired her dress with a metallic clutch, and pewter peep-toe pumps. Tony Award-winning actress, Anika Noni Rose, a brown sista well-known for her role as a Dream Girl in the 2006 movie Dream Girls, first wore the same back-less designer dress last year at an after party. She also paired her outfit well with silver slingback open-toe sandals.

Tony Award winning actress Anika Noni Rose, who is probably best known for her role as Lorrell in the hit movie Dreamgirls, has landed the lead role in a Broadway classic her fellow Dreamgirl, Beyonce, was once in talks to star in herself. As you all remember, I posted an article here some months ago about an all Black cast being used in the revival of “Cat On A Hot Tin Roof”. At the time it was reported that the producers wanted a big name Black female star to play the role of Maggie The Cat, and thus Audra McDonald, an acclaimed Black Broadway actress was booted in favor of Beyonce. LL Cool J was also said to be taking on the role of Brick, but neither of those casting choices worked out because Playbill has officially announced that Anika and Terrence Howard will be playing the roles of Maggie and Brick.
