Talk about a blast from the past. I am sure the most of you haven’t heard the name Charli Baltimore in over ten years and even I hadn’t thought of the sista until I came across this pic of her with Ashanti. As some of you may remember, waaay back in the 90’s Ashanti and Charli were suppose to do for The Inc. what Hersheys did for chocolate. Unfortunately, only one of these sistas would go on to super stardom while the other would basically disappear into oblivion- but not for lack of talent. I think Charli was actually a decent rapper who was simply cursed with mediocre songs and a record label that was more interested in exploiting her past with Biggie rather than her skills on the Mic. Okay, I can hear some of you laughing right now (Nova), but I never the sista was Rakim, only that she was a decent MC.

The BET Awards are scheduled to air tomorrow night and of course that means lots of pre Awards parties have been happening over the last few days. One of those parties, hosted by Kevin Liles, attracted a slew of beautiful brown Brown Sistas, including Elise Neal, Shaun Robinson and Melyssa Ford.

While browsing Janet Jackson’s official forum I came across what was said to be two new tracks from Ashanti’s upcoming album. All the members were raving about the singles and as I listened to them my sentiments were pretty much the same. The songs, if truly hers, are a departure from what you would expect from Ashanti as the lyrics are extremely mature, with not even a hint of her trademark Murder Inc. sound. However, the singing on both these tracks are so good that I wondered if it was truly Ashanti. The first track, More Than A Melody, sounds like something Diane Warren would have written for Whitney Houston back in the day. It has a very Greatest Love Of All feel and the vocals are just extraordinary.

Five Women whose careers have expirations dates. This was one of the most interesting articles I have read online in a while. As I sat back and attempted to think of five sistas whose careers I thought had expiration dates fast approaching, I realized that I could think of none. Was this a good thing? Are the sistas who presently hold the top spots in acting and music so talented that their careers could possibly be infinite? Well in my mind- yes. However, I realize not everyone feels the way I do, and so naturally this is where you guys, my readers, come into play.

The Bahamas is definitely the place to be this weekend as hordes of celebrities have converged on the islands to celebrate the grand opening of the Atlantis Phase III luxury resort. Stevie Wonder celebrated his birthday there while designer Kaimilla also used the occasion to show off her 2007 fashion line. However, the biggest event to take place so far was Janet Jackson’s mini concert Friday evening. Janet performed a medley of her hits and proved that she still has what it takes to pull in a big name crowd as Babyface, Ashanti, Usher and Tyra Banks were just a few of the celebs who attended her show.
