The First Family Host White House Poetry Jam

The First Couple How cool are the Obamas? The first couple, Barack and Michelle, hosted the first ever White House Poetry Jam last night. Th First Lady, who is a fan of poetry and said she had been waiting for this event from day one, attended the laid back affair wearing cropped white slacks, an asymmetrical top by Basso & Brooke, and her signature kitten keels. Performers included actor James Earl Jones, Chicogo poet Mayda del Valle, bassist Esperanza Spalding, and many more. The event was attended by over 200 friends and special guests of the first family and will be broadcast later on HBO.

Michelle & Barack Wow The International Press

Michelle & Barack The hotness that is the first couple, Barack & Michelle Obama, wowed the international press last night when they showed up for the NATO summit in Baden Baden, Germany. Michelle, wearing a black Azzedine Alai ensemble and kitten heels, was especially beautiful as she showed off her new hairstyle, complete with bangs. The First Lady’s every fashion step and mis-step has been followed closely by the American press and for good reason. Michelle showing up in an outfit can send a company’s stock prices soaring and even lead to a backlog of orders for pieces the First Lady is seen wearing.

Barack & Michelle Surprise Sasha & Malia

A puppy isn’t the only thing first children Sasha and Malia are getting to ease their transition to White House life. A well-equipped playground set appeared outside the Oval Office Wednesday, complete with swings, slides, rope ladders, climbing slopes, clubhouse and crawl spaces. The playground set was designed by Rainbow Play Systems. The positioning of the set, right outside the Oval Office, was chosen so that President Obama could easily keep an eye on the girls while working.

The Obamas Go To The Ball(s)

Barack & Michelle Obama After officially becoming the nation’s 44th President, Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama headed back to the White House to get ready for a night of celebration. The couple were scheduled to attend no less than 10 inaugural balls and did so in less than 3 hours. Barack and Michelle first stopped by the Neighborhood Ball which is where they danced their first dance of the evening- serenaded by Beyonce, who sang Etta James’ classic, At Last. The couple would repeat that scene 9 more times, attending The Youth Inaugural Ball, Commander in Chief’s Ball, Obama’s Home State Ball, and many, many others.

“We Are One” Concert For Barack Obama

The “We Are One” concert to celebrate the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama was held earlier today and broadcast live on HBO. The concert featured performances and historical readings from people like Mary J. Blige, Queen Latifah, Beyonce, Bettye Lavette, Rosario Dawson, Heather Headley, as well as many, many others.

Michelle & Barack Cover Essence Magazine

Michelle & Barack It’s an Obama double dose. President-elect Barack Obama and soon-to-be First Lady Michelle Obama both grace the cover of the new issue of Essence magazine, on newsstands December 12 — and ET was given a first look. The Obamas’ incredible campaign and historic victory get a 56-page tribute in the January issue, featuring the images, thoughts, dreams and perspectives by some of today’s foremost writers and photographers. An extensive timeline which follows Barack from a young child to the present is included, and the first couple’s daughters, Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7, are also profiled, as they will be the youngest residents of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave since Amy Carter.
