It has been a few few weeks since I last posted a Talk Me Tuesday feature and so today I have decided to bring it back, with the direct intent of talking about Barack Obama and the media’s assertion that sistas are not supportive of him. First, let me start by saying that I do not believe the polls, and though they vary depending on who is conducting them, the overall consensus is that sistas, and brothas to a lesser degree, do not support this man of color and his Black wife. Now I call Barack a man of color and not Black, because his biracial-ness, according to the media, has caused some Black people to question his overall Blackness.

Album push backs are becoming extremely popular as Ashanti can now add her name to the growing list of female singers having their album release dates either pushed back or postponed indefinitely. Appearing on the Doug Banks Show today, Ashanti confirmed that her “Declaration” will not see the light of day until sometime in early 2008. No actual release date was given however. Ashanti also confirmed that no video for her first single, Hey Baby, has been shot as previously reported. And though Ashanti probably won’t admit it, I think her label is re-evaluating their decision to release Hey Baby as the first single and rightfully so. The song is too similar in sound to that of Diddy and Keyshia Cole’s “Last Night”, and because of that radio will most likely not play it. By new years a new single will most likely be chosen, and fans will have long since forgotten about Hey Baby.

Singer Janet Jackson has been criss-crossing the country all this week promoting her new film Why Did I Get Married. Janet made two stops in New York on Thursday, appearing on Good Morning America with Tyler Perry, and later on taping a segment of 106 & Park with both Tyler and Jill Scott. Why Did I Get Married opens today nationwide and sistas especially should support this film. Tyler’s last film to star a Black woman, Daddy’s Little Girls, with Gabrielle Union didn’t do so well at the theaters leading many to believe Black America won’t support a Tyler film without the Madea character. Let’s prove them wrong and show our support for not only Tyler but for the many Black actresses that he gives opportunities to.

Wow! That’s what I thought when I watched this video clip of former En Vogue member, Dawn Robinson. Dawn, as I had heard years ago, has fallen on financial hard times and is apparently sleeping on the floor of a rodent infested apartment- with her husband. Now, we have all heard this story before, singer hits it big, loses it all, blah, blah, blah. However, the fact that Dawn is living this way while married shocks me. Her husband, Dre something-or-the-other, is also an up and coming singer and one that apparently cannot take care of his wife. But I’m getting a little head of myself here. I’ll come back to Dre later. This clip I speak of, which you can see on the next page, is actually from what I was told is a reality show that the couple is shooting about their attempts to break back into the music business.

I believe these photos were taken back in 2003 when Janet Jackson was rumored to be portraying Lena Horne in her biopic. These pics were suppose to showcase her looking very Lena like, but to me, I saw Diana Ross, not Lena Horne. The photo above in particular always looked very Diana, circa Lady Sings The Blues… or was it Mahogany? Well I can’t remember which one if was but I do know it was pre-big-hair Diana. Back in the 70’s Diana was rocking her own hair in her movies and I loved it. She seemed real. Same goes for these pics of Janet. It’s rare to see sistas showcasing their own lovely locks, but when they do, it is a sight to behold. And even though Janet may have a few extra tracks in there, this is still probably one of the most natural photo shoots I have ever seen of her.

I’ll admit it, I was never really a Keyshia Cole fan but I think as of late I may be converting over to one. Her first album didn’t particularly touch me and I thought her attitude was abysmal. It wasn’t until after I saw a few episodes of her reality show on BET that I stopped turning my nose up at this sista and instead started trying to relate to her. Shortly after that I caught her performing her hit single, Love, on 106 & Park and every since then I have sorta been feeling her style. You have all heard the Mary J. comparisons by now but Keyshia only reminds me of Mary in the slightest of ways. They are both soul singers from rough backgrounds who have a strong attachment to overly bleached blond hair (lol), but other than those two things I see nothing else they really have in common… musically at least.

Singer Rihanna was spotted out in Santa Monica, California shooting the new video for her next single, Hate That I Love You, which features Ne-Yo. So far the pics that I have only feature Rihanna so I have no idea whether Ne-Yo will make an appearance or not. I believe this video was actually shot a few weeks ago because I have seen these images before, even though they just became available to the public today. Rihanna doesn’t seem to be wearing a cast in any of these pics so I think that my assumption is correct. Rihanna is releasing videos at a very rapid pace and one can only assume it is to keep the momentum of her album going. Though Umbrella was a huge hit, none of the singles she has released since have faired as well and her album has only gone gold.

Singer Keke Wyatt, best known for taking a knife to her husband’s throat, is back with a new album entitled Ghetto Rose and two new interviews guaranteed to get tongues wagging. AHHA first interviewed Keke who took a swipe at not only Beyonce’s vocals skills but looks as well. Keke laments “If you notice, I’m yellow. My natural hair is the color she dyes her hair. I have the little waist with the big booty. It’s all the same thing but I sing better, so it was their loss. Say I don’t sing better than Beyonce?“ Not content with making ridiculous comments to just AHHA, Keke then took her act on the road and decided to share her brainless ideas on race, skin color and the N word with Essence Magazine writer, Kenya Byrd. You can read both the Essence and AHHA articles on the next page, but I cannot and will not be held responsible for any brain cells you might lose during the course of reading them.

With word that Vibe Vixen would be no more after the Aug/Sept edition, folks are once again scratching their heads and wondering why so many magazines aimed at Black women seem to fail. Granted, few magazines are ever geared towards sisters, but in the last 3 years, 3 of the most visible to do so, have ceased publication: Vixen, Honey and Suede. Now in the past I have written about exactly why I believe Honey folded, but Suede came and went so fast that I never even saw it, while Vixen was an on again- off again project that just never really took off.
