I wrote this article about a year ago on my personal blog and it was picked up by a larger site and eventually spread all over the net. So many people reposted it on their sites to the point where friends of mine were sending it to me totally unaware that I had written it. I have decided to repost it here after reading several comments made by sistas throughout the blogsphere concerning Polow Da Don and his hairstyle of choice. Below is the article as it appeared in 2006.
Okay, I know from jump this will be one of those topics that is sure to upset both Black men and women, but you all know what I think- So What!
Like most people, braids on men never bothered me before, but the older I got the more they disturbed me as I found many traits I disliked seemed to be found in men with braids, or as I like to say, men who wear their hair like little girls.

Rumors that actress Tisha Campbell and her husband, Duane Martin, have broken up are sweeping the net but due to the original sources (MTO & Wendy Williams) I will just hold off on believing it. What I do know for sure though, is that the actress, along with Queen Latifah and Mo’Nique, spent this past Saturday mentoring teenage inmates at the Youth Study Center in Philadelphia. Mo’Nique told the teenage inmates that they must stop being disrespectful and ignorant and stop blaming others for their wrongdoings. Queen Latifah told the juvenile inmates to “surround themselves with positive people and find role models that will truly move them forward in life.” And of course Tisha did her part by using her beautiful voice to sing a gospel hymn for the crowd at the Saturday afternoon appearance.

As you all know, Kelly Rowland released her second solo album last week and sadly, sales have been less than spectacular. According to Billboard, the Miss Kelly album moved 82,500 copies. I believe that number is less than what her first album sold and even less than what Hits Daily Double reported. Still, Kelly and the Knowles family put on shiny happy faces to attend Kelly’s album release party which was held last night. Check out Kelly below look totally fabulous.

As many of you know, Kelly Rowland released her sophomore album, Miss Kelly, earlier this week and her competition for the top spot on next week’s chart is pretty stiff. Kelly is going head to head with Atlanta rapper T.I. and according to one day sales from Hits Daily Double, T.I. is winning- by a landslide. According to the sometimes right and sometimes wrong source, T.I. is on his way to selling over 500,000 copies of his CD, while Kelly is due to sell just over 100,000 copies of her new opus. Now even though Kelly will obviously not come in at #1, the #2 slot isn’t so bad and with a great follow up single to Bump Like This, we are sure the Miss Kelly album will have what it takes to at least go platinum.

Bey spent her last day of freedom in St Tropez before heading back to the states where she is due to perform on tomorrow night’s BET Awards. Word is Beyonce will be opening the show with a medley of her B’ Day hits, including Upgrade U and Get Me Bodied. Jay is a rumored special guest and if he does perform with Bey, that will be some sort of record, as I believe they will have opened the BET Awards twice in the past as well. It’s no wonder BET is turning to Beyonce again, as their show last year, which she also opened, was a record breaker, pulling in a whopping six million viewers and even besting the MTV Video Awards.

Tameka Foster, better known to world as Usher’s fiancé, sat down to talk to Essence Magazine about the innuendo, speculation and out right un truths that are often printed about her and her relationship with the much younger singer. Tameka pulls no punches and answers questions openly about her former husband, where her children are and if she really was the cause of Usher firing his mother as his manager. Rapper Eve is set to take the reigns over on BET by guest hosting their Rap City show all next week. BET also plans to address the absence of women in rap music. Roxanne Shante, DJ Jazzy Joyce, MC Lyte, Remy Ma and others will also stop by to give their prospective on the disappearing female rapper syndrome that I actually wrote about some weeks ago.
