While sitting around and feeling somewhat nostalgic a few days ago, I decided to do a search of my favorite magazine from back in the day. That magazine was of course Honey, and to my surprise I saw that the site and the mag will both be re-launching soon.
Just 10 years ago, I believe Honey was probably one of the hottest magazines around for African American Sistas.Unfortunately, after having a glorious start with Angela Burt-Murray ((I think she was the original Editor, I could be wrong though.)) as their editor, the owners of Honey decided to replace her with a woman who would effectively ruin Honey by replacing the images of Black men and women, with images of white looking women and gay looking Hispanic men.

If the angry posts of borderline-insane fans on Janet Jackson’s website are to be believed, there’s a vast, evil conspiracy against Janet Jackson being perpetrated by the villainous career-breakers over at MTV.
Why do they think there’s a conspiracy, you ask? Well, let’s peruse the evidence they present:

Former Destiny’s Childsinger LaTavia Roberson has enjoyed her time away from the limelight. Back in 2000, during the midst of a whirlwind promotional tour for their sophomore album ‘The Writing’s on the Wall,’ Roberson and LeToya Luckett attempted to sever their management agreement with Mathew Knowles. They claimed Beyonce’s father favored his daughter and that he was keeping too much of the group’s profits.
Roberson and Luckett were then ousted from the group, replaced in their “Say My Name” music video with Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin who lip-synched to their background vocals. The two founding members then sued father and daughter Knowles, as well as group member Kelly Rowland. Both parties slung dirt during a back-and-forth media blitz, but the lawsuits ended up being settled out of court and Roberson and Luckett were said to have made a pretty penny. A non-disclosure agreement prohibits them from discussing the settlement.
Despite claims from Rowland and Knowles that Roberson and Luckett couldn’t sing, the two formed a new group called Anjel-right around the same time that Destiny’s Child kicked Franklin out of the group and became a tri0. Signed to a production deal with Jagged Edge, the group’s failure to launch caused them to disband. Luckett embarked on a solo music career and Roberson decided to retreat and do some soul searching.

I was on the West Side Highway in a 4Runner Jeep, on my way to the Bronx, when I first heard my first record ‘You Remind Me’ on the radio. I thanked the Lord immediately and the next thing that came to my head was, ‘I’m going to be able to get my mother out of the projects.’ She was living in Yonkers’ Schlobohm Projects. I believe I was 19.
I purchased her a house in Jersey. I was so happy for her, because I wanted her out of that environment. She was very, very, very happy. Just happy and confused at the same time, because stuff like that never comes true where we lived. She didn’t know what to do, but she seemed kind of pleasant and at peace.
I don’t think there’s ever been any real sun after that. I had been doing drugs since I was 16 years-old. I was already consumed with the whole thing. That was just a day that was a good day; you have good days and bad days. That was a great day.

What is it about R&B chicks? Is sexiness simply a part of their DNA? They tend to ooze sensuality in a way that feels effortless, which is probably why Biggie devoted a whole song to them. And he’s not alone in his infatuation. Whether they’re showcasing their curves or simply belting out tunes, they compel athletes to chase them, make high school boys study them, and entice rappers to dream about them.
Keyshia Cole, 24, is no exception. Her sexiness isn’t obvious in the typical wet model mold. Yes, she’s got a body men love, but it’s not something she feels comfortable flaunting. Instead, she wants everyone to concentrate on her music.

At the start of her recent tour, it had been nearly ten years since Toni Braxton has been in concert. She had a new album and plenty to talk about but the first thing she mentioned was how fans at her first show in Atlantic City, N.J., almost got more of her than they bargained for.
Braxton said she left the stage for a quickie costume change. But in the eight seconds allotted to swap outfits, she forgot something: her panties. She was about to head back on stage wearing just pantyhose and a top when an alert member of the stage crew caught the faux pas.
