Brown Sista

The 35th Annual American Music Awards ceremony was held last night and it was quite a huge evening for Brown Sistas. Both Alicia Keys and Rihanna walked away with multiple statuetts, two a piece and gave blockbuster performances to boot. Alicia gave an amazing performance of her single, Superwoman, with raptress Queen Latifah and opera singer Kathleen Battle. Rihanna also gave a spectacular performance of her single Rehab and did so while wearing the most amazing bad ass biker babe outfit I have ever seen- complete with jewel encrusted eye-patch. Next up was Sasha Fierce who was not about to be left out of all the hoopla. Though Beyonce was not up for any awards, she did perform her soon to be #1 hit, Single Ladies and totally brought the crowd to their feet.

R n’ B diva Beyonce and her alter-ego, Sasha Fierce, were spotted in downtown Los Angeles yesterday shooting the video for Beyonce’s next single, Diva. The singer revealed last week that she would once again be rolling out two new singles, Halo and Diva- and that videos for both of those singles would be shot this week. Diva is obviously up first and judging from the variety of outrageous costumes the singer was photographed wearing- the video will no doubt live up to it’s title. For one scene Beyonce is shown sporting an unusual pair of tasseled sunglasses, while in other scenes she is dressed up as pure Sasha Fierce in an evening gown.

According to Hits Daily Double, Beyonce and her alter-ego, Sasha Fierce, will both debut at the top of next week’s chart. So just how much will the sista sell? Well, Mathew Knowles, Beyonce’s father and manager, recently told Billboard Magazine that he thought his daughter would sell anywhere between 750,000 and 1,000,000 copies in the first week. According to him, his daughter is so focused on transitioning from singer to Icon, that they have paid extra attention to every single detail when it comes to the promotion of this new album. According to Variety Beyonce is set to perform live at this year’s 11th. Annual Christmas in Rockefeller Center concert. The event will be taped at the Art Deco Plaza in the heart of Manhattan and broadcast live on December 3rd, via NBC. This year’s show will be hosted by weather anchor Al Roker and other artists set to perform include Faith Hill, The Jonas Brothers and Beyonce’s younger sister, Solange Knowles. The two will also pair up again at the 2008 American Music Awards. Solange is scheduled to be a presenter, while Beyonce will be taking to the stage. Other Brown Sistas set to perform include Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey and this year’s Queen of the Charts, Rihanna.

MTV taped the final episode of their once hugely popular video countdown show, TRL, yesterday in their Times Square studio. As perviously reported Beyonce was on hand to perform, while Teyana Taylor stopped by to share her very short memories of the show. I had heard a slew of Brown Sistas were due to make an apeearance, including Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey and Ashanti- neither of those women were there however. Other big names who represented TRL over the years were also absent. Britney and Christina were the most notable no shows, as were the boy bands who helped make that show so popular back in the late 90s. The only people who did seem to turn out were rappers. Diddy, Nelly and Snoop were all on hand- even though the TRL crowd never showed these artists any real love.

Wow! Beyonce is just not going to stop until she converts me into one of her sick stans. I admit it, I listened to the leaked version of her album last week and have been playing it every since. Though not a perfect CD, it has quite a few songs on it that I am really feeling- espcially Diva. Now comes a new leak from the singer titled Ego and it is such a bold in you face confident track. I know some people hate confidence and bravado in other people- but I love it. I love a sista who ain’t scared to admit, as Beyonce does in this song, that “She has every reason to believe that she’s that b%#&. And though the song is not technically about her, I personally think it’s about Jay- Bey has no problem tooting her own horn in this song as well.
