Brown Sistas At The 2008 World Music Awards

Another day, another awards show to report about. The 2008 World Music Awards were held earlier this evening in Monte-Carlo and lots of Brown Sistas were on hand to represent. While Michelle Williams was spotted walking the red carpet and co- hosting the event, acts like Estelle, Alicia Keys, Solange and Beyonce were given the opportunity to rock the stage- and rock it they did. Beyonce opened the show with her hit Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) and from there things just got better. Estelle, who is truly an international star, performed a medley of her hits and also walked away with the award for Best New R n’ B Act. Alicia Keys and Solange also performed and Alicia walked away with the award for Best R n’ B Artist.

New Beyonce Song: Scared Of Lonely

Happy Election Day Brown Sistas. I started not to post today, but then I got an e-mail informing me of another leaked Beyonce track- and I just couldn’t wait an entire day to let you guys hear it. Scared of Lonely, is the latest Beyonce song to become available online and it is produced by Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins. Very much in keeping with the sound of “If I Were A Boy”, Scared Of Lonely is a departure from Beyonce’s bouncy sound and is very acoustic in nature. I’m not completely sold on this new earthy vibe Beyonce is giving off on this album, but I do understand her desire to switch it up after twelve years in the business.

Preview Tracks From Beyonce’s New Album

Still haven’t gotten enough of Beyonce’s alter-go Sasha Fierce yet? Well you can now preview tracks from the singer’s upcoming new album on 7 Digital.com. All 16 songs featured on “I Am” are available for listen and scrutiny. I previewed a few of the songs and well, this album is indeed very much a departure from previous Beyonce albums. She has shown growth- maybe a little too much for her fan base if you ask me. I didn’t hear anything that immediately jumped out at me as a potential third single- but then again the clips are very short and so not much judgement good or bad can be passed on them. Still, I think Beyonce knows what fans expect of her which is why she has a a deluxe edition of club bangers waiting in the wind.

Beyonce’s Gotham Magazine Photo Shoot

It’s raining in New York. A hot, muggy, gray rain that splashes in heavy sheets off the line of black Escalades parked outside a photo studio on the West Side. Just a few weeks ago, Hurricane Ike brought far more relentless rains to Houston, destroying the neighborhood where Beyoncé Knowles grew up. Oddly, her favorite memory is tied to a similar meteorological disaster almost 20 years ago. “I never told anyone this story, but we lived by the bayou, and it flooded,” she explains. “My father came to pick me up from school. I thought he was so strong. And he protected me. We had to get out of the car because the water was flooding the streets. He was carrying me around and it was the most fun thing in the world. My arms were around his neck and I was laughing and it was raining, and I was like, this is great! Even though, looking back, I know he was terrified.”

New Beyonce “Sasha Fierce” Promo Shots

I decided to edit this post to share the latest Billboard news concerning Beyonce’s first single, If I Were A Boy. For those of you who read my post a few days ago, you know that If I Were A Boy was released on iTunes last week and quickly shot to the top of the charts. Generally when a song has strong digital sales it will go #1 and artsists like T.I. and Rihanna have been beneficiaries of this trend quite often. Unfortunately, Beyonce has not. If I Were Boy did fly up to the charts but two singles by T.I. stopped it from reaching pole position. So as of this week, Billboard Magazine shows Beyonce sitting in third place on the Hot 100, behind Whatever You Like by T.I. and Live Your Life by T.I and Rihanna. Does this mean If I Were A Boy won’t go #1? Nope. It simply means that it won’t go #1 this week. However, with a rise in airplay and steady downloads- the song could still make it to the top next week or within the coming weeks.
