Singer Janet Jackson turned 42 years old yesterday and celebrated her big day with her longtime boyfriend Jermaine Dupri at Katsuya Restaurant. Unlike past birthdays Miss Jackson didn’t have a big celebration at a Hollywood night club but rather chose to keep it intimate and low key. Congrats to Janet! She’s still beautiful at 42 and I can’t wait to see her show these youngins how it’s done when she hits the touring circuit later on this year.

Rihanna, who turns to big 2-0 today, was spotted out in Los Angeles yesterday shopping for art at Jack Gallery. The “Umbrella” hitmaker has been riding a wave of success lately, having won her first Grammy and now being nominated for a Brit Award, which is the UK version of the Grammy. Rihanna will battle it out with Alicia Keys, Kylie Minogue, Bjork and Feist, in the Best International Female Category. Rihanna is also scheduled to perform at the show, which airs on British television tonight. Sandra “Pepa” Denton celebrated her forty-third birthday yesterday at the Brava Nightclub in Puerto Rico. Pepa’s b-day jam was proceeded by a pool party at the grand opening of the New El San Juan Hotel & Casino. Her partner in rhyme, Cheryl “Salt” James was in attendance, as was Gabrielle Union, singer Nick Lachay, and his gal pal, Vanessa Mannillo. Party pics can be seen on the next page- and wow, can you believe Pepa is actually 43 years old? Nose job or not, the sista looks good.

Singer Ciara continues to criss-cross the country celebrating her twenty-second birthday with a five city tour. Last night Ciara touched down in New York City and kept the party going at the Runway. Besides shaking her groove thang, Ciara continued to field questions about her relationship with 50 Cent, who is rumored to have given the singer a fifteen karat “friendship” ring. Look for Ciara to wrap up her birthday tour in the next few days with a celebration in Miami and then two in the Bahamas. After that Ciara will hit the road for several touring dates throughout Europe, where she will be the opening act for Rihanna.

As previously reported, the best darn thing to come outta the 80’s since Janet Jackson’s Control album, my girls Salt n’ Pepa, have signed on to do a reality series with VH-1. Since Salt walked away from the group in the late 90’s, she has married, had two children and found God. Pepa on the other hand is supposedly still a wild child trying to relive the heyday of the group’s popularity, and that apparently is the premise of the show. Pepa wants Salt to come back to performing, while Salt is weary of doing anything that she thinks is contrary to the spiritual person she is today. The show is due to air October 15th. and VH-1 has released about a five minute promo of the premiere episode.

Singer Janet Jackson was spotted over the weekend at the US Open, taking in Venus Williams match against Hungarian player Kira Nagy. Pics of Janet are extremely hard to come by these days as she rarely seems to make a public appearances. Reports still have Janet holed up in Miami working her on new album, which L.A Reid is rumored to be personally overseeing. There are also reports that Janet, along with Beyonce, will be performing at Ethiopia’s millennium bash which goes down on September 12th. Look for Beyonce to headline the affair while Janet is simply listed as a performer.
