Farrah Franklin’s New Movie

Farrah Franklin You all remember Farrah Franklin don’t you? She, along with Michelle Williams, were brought in to take the place of LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson who had been kicked out of the group Destiny’s Child. Less than three months after joining Destiny’s Child however, Farrah was shown the door as well. Since leaving the group Farrah has kept a relatively low profile aside from appearing in a few videos here and there and posing in a Black men’s magazines. Farrah however is ready to make her mark in the world of acting and is starring in the low budget straight to DVD thriller, Single Black Female. You can check out the trailer for the film on the next page and word is Farrah wrote and produced the film herself.

Weekend Happenings…

Missy Not much of anything went down over the weekend as everyone was off for the holidays enjoying time with their families. However, before they ran off to the relatives many Brown Sistas continued to do what they do -entertain. Rihanna continued on with her concert, Beyonce supported her man and Missy Elliott and a few others showed their support by showing up for the Angie Martinez Hair & Beauty Expo that I told you guys about a few weeks ago. The expo was suppose to be hosted by Queen Latifah and Meagan Good, Keyshia Cole, Eve and a few others were suppose to be in attendance.

Dereon Girls A Little Too Adult?

Dereon Baby So I am sitting back reading my new issue of Vibe Magazine, which always arrives late, and lo and behold I see a new promo ad for Dereon Girls. No big deal- I keep reading. After a second look at the magazine and the ad I noticed something very oh-my-god-ish. Take a look at the ad to your right and see if you see it too? Did you spot it? It’s the shoes! Look at the boots the 2 little girls have on in that ad. Those boots are so not fit to be worn by a child the age of the child in the ad or any youngster for that matter. Still, I love them. They are so hot. Little girls aren’t suppose to be hot though so I gotta give Dereon Girls a thumbs down for this look. Also, as a mother of a ten year old girl I can tell you that young girls clothing over the years has gotten extremely inappropriate. Clothing for pre-teens are as tight, hip hugging and revealing as clothing for grown women. I have even seen thongs for little girls and you know that ain’t right. So on one level I can look at the ad and the clothing and think the kids are cute in a “dress up like my mama kind of way”. However, if these are actual clothing and shoes from the Dereon Girls line, I will not be supporting it. Dereon Girls needs to look more girl-ish and less woman-ish or this line will go the way of their high end Dereon line- down the toilet.

Keyshia Cole Vibe Photo Shoot

Keyshia Cole As many of you already know Keyshia Cole is Vibe Magazine’s December 2007 covergirl. Keyshia set tongues a wagging and officially elevated herself to sex symbol status when she posed topless for the cover. Vibe promised more breathtaking photos of Keyshia inside the magazine and I think they delivered on that promise. Keyshia’s inside pictorial features her totally dressed, but no less stunning. I compared these photos to those she took for Vibe back in 2006 and truly there is no comparing the two. Keyshia seemed quite uncomfortable with the sex symbol label back then but without a doubt seems to embrace it more as she says “she is comfortable in her own skin now”. You can check out one of the beautiful pics from inside the mag to your right and more can be found on the next page.

Nia, Gabrielle & Sanaa Cover Essence

Nia-Sanaa-Gabrielle My three favorite actresses, Sanaa Lathan, Nia Long, and Gabrielle Union will all grace the December cover of Essence Magazine. The three sistas come together to talk about men, the lack of quality roles for Black women in Hollywood, and their dislike of gossip blogs- especially those run by Black women. Gabrielle Union, who has been taken to task by gossip blogs for supposedly partying too much, is especially ticked off about what is said about her and laments how painful it is to have your own community tearing you down. And now because everyone is clamoring for celebrity tidbits, the bigger gossip sites and even mainstream entities are picking up on it. No fact-checking, no nothing. And in one week’s time, there were like five different dudes, a baby—I’m a homewrecker. In literally seven days. I can’t point the finger at the White media. They don’t care about us. Paparazzi are not staked out in front of any of our houses. They are not going through our garbage because they don’t care about us in that way. So when you hear crap about us, it is coming from our own community, which hurts..

Mary Covers Genlux Magazine

Mary J. Blige - Genlux Magazine Gracing the October/November edition of Genlux Magazine is the one and only Mary J. Blige- and what can I say? Wow! The sista looks absolutely amazing. Mary has always made a beautiful covergirl and Genlux captured her beauty perfectly with the cover shot. Genlux is described as a luxury fashion and beauty magazine for the affluent Southern California woman, offering the latest on what to wear, how to wear it and where to find it. Unfortunately, unless you live in California you probably will not be able to find this particular issue. I received this pic over a week ago but cannot find the actual magazine anywhere. I guess that just leaves us this cute little cover to admire from afar.

American Gangster’s Portrayal Of Black Women

I meant to post a Talk To Me Tuesday article yesterday but totally forgot. I know we pretty much have a free for all on Tuesdays but I wanted to devote yesterday’s segment to the movie American Gangster and it’s portrayal of Black women. I have not seen the movie but have read a great a deal about what people think of it on my forum. Quite a few complaints were about the way sistas were portrayed as appose to how the film’s only non sista, the character of Denzel’s wife, was portrayed.
